After may log moths of work moderkight1 has finally finished ad released his Turbulent Times Music Mod for CoAS! I have followed this one closely because i have always felt that music in a game can be just as important as a good story line and good gameplay. Music ca really set the atmosphere of a game more than almost any other element, ad if it is done wrong can kill a game quickly. I think Seaward and Akella did a fine with the music for the game, there were some aspects that needed a bit more variety. As with everything MK does, this mod is historically accurate, and consists of music primarily from the 17th/18th centuries. But my words could hardly do it justice, and I think MK describes it perfectly himself :
I attempted to find music that captured the dissonant spirit of the times and situations. With the exception of a couple of tracks, this music is not what you would find in a typical Hollywood Pirate movie. It's the type of music you would find in a well done historically accurate Age of Sail/Piracy movie or documentary. That doesn't mean it lacks the glitzey, action flash and flair of a blockbuster's music. I tried to pick out music that exudes action and movement where the situations warrant, and dissonance, friction, and mystery in other places. I think this mod will be more popular with the more mature player or someone looking for the educational immersive simulations experience rather than the temporary fix - kiddie pirate movie game diversion. The serious player and historian will very much enjoy this mod. Be warned that the music is somewhat dark much of the time but very inspirational and educational. For kids that want to impress their parents, this mod is also a must. They may even let you play longer believing that you've finally found some sort of sophistication.
