Nitro Games Gets Major Investment!

pa-logoJust in case some of you haven't seen it yet, thanks to Isher and his post HERE, we know that Disney has canceled POTC Armada of The Damned. The game it self didn't look all that impressive to me from what I had seen, but a mediocre pirate game is better than no pirate game! Anyway, I just ran across this bit of good news from a couple of weeks ago, it seems Nitro Games has got a pretty good infusion of cash recently, this is good news because Nitro is currently working on a new pirate game called Ravens Cry! Hopefully that means that Ravens Cry will indeed get finished! I haven't been able to find out a whole lot about this one yet, but from what I can gather, it will probably be similar to East India Company and Commander : Conquest of the Americas. This news is a couple of weeks old, but better late than never!

Mediatonic Invests Into Nitro Games Mediatonic, a new Finnish based fund, has invested into Nitro Games. Nitro Games is a Finnish gaming house that has created games such as Raven's Cry and East India Company. The games fall into the strategy genre and made for the PC. The investment size was not disclosed. Mediatonic won't become a share holder of the company as it invests into the revenue share of future income thus making it an attractive investor for entrepreneurs.

East India Company Revisited

east-indiaWhen I first started playing EIC I really was not too impressed but apparently Nitro released a free addon that solved a number of the problems and the game was very playable.  So I'm downloading it again and going to give it another try.  What I would like to ask anyone is 1. Am I wasting my time? 2. Were there any mods that are worthwhile adding? Oh, and there's a new poll!

Woody Two-Legs: Attack of the Zombie Pirates!

Woody Two–Legs: Attack of the Zombie PiratesThis one is a bit of a surprise, I never heard anything about this one till today! Paradox Interactive and Nitro Games have given us a Halloween treat and released a new pirate game, Woody Two-Legs: Attack of the Zombie Pirates! I'm not sure what this one is all about, as I haven't played it yet,  but it appears to be a classic arcade shooter. This bit of zombie pirate goodness is available for just $4.99!

Meet Woody Two-Legs, the least infamous pirate of Seven Seas. Things have never gone quite right for Woody. That is, until he scored big time and got his hands on huge treasure. Sailing to remote island, Woody was about to bury his treasure, just as any good pirate would do. Unfortunately, it turned out that the original owners of the treasure, namely Mr. Jones himself and his retinue of undead pirates, had caught up with Woody. Small he might be, but Woody Two-Legs was not going to give up without a fight. Help Woody to fight wave after wave of undead pirates, defeat deadly bosses, collect bonuses and use devastating special weapons. All legs on deck! Woody Two-Legs is a casual score chasing arcade shooter that offers players various degrees of unlockable difficulties, building gradually on intensity with wave after wave of attack by the retune of undead pirates and their unholy allies. Part of the addiction lies in the fact that these enemies become increasingly nasty as the player unlocks the various difficulty modes, ultimately facing up against the man himself in the ultimate boss fight in Nightmare Mode.

Features

  • Chase the high scores on the online scoreboard and don’t settle for anything less than the Best of the Best
  • Unlock the various difficulty levels ultimately ending up in the extremely insane Nightmare-mode
  • Check in on a regular basis to make sure no one has dethroned your score and or to make it better and harder to beat “Defeat your friends & foes on the online scoreboard”
  • Follow the story of Woody Two-Legs trough the exiting campaign mode or play your favorite level in the Level play mode
  • Fight the evil forces of Mr. Jones on several different levels of intensity
  • Face the zombies, skeletons and ghosts ships and their grim bosses and finally face off with Mr. Jones himself

Woody Two-Legs Quickcap Review & Video

Written by Keith on . Posted in Nitro's Games

Woody Two–Legs: Attack of the Zombie PiratesOK, so I got the game and have started playing around with it.  It is VERY simplistic, don't think of this as anything other than a arcade shooter suitable for killing a few minutes at a time only.  Basically you have a pirate ship and you shoot the attacking waves of enemies and pick powerups along the way.  Once and a while a monster comes and you need to kill it.  Then rinse and repeat.  I'll give it that I have not played alot of it yet but the basic gameplay does not change no matter whether your on a hard level or not I think. The graphics are actually pretty nice, not as good as Buccaneers but quite suitable for an arcade title.  Not alot of point talking about sound in an arcade game, it's ok i guess.   The only gripe I do have is that turning seems to accelerate which makes fine turning hard as you need to tap the turning button alot rather than just holding it down. I'm not going to say too much about if this is a good or bad game as it's really just a casual time killing game, if you find it entertaining for 10-15 minutes at a time then it's done what it set out to do, if you feel like giving it away to your pet dog after 1 minute than there's room for improvement.  These games are best  not to be dwelled on too much, but I will say that considering the other games available at this time I probably won't play it much unless I only have only a few minutes spare at which point I'd still be having fun.  Feel free task any questions in the comments. If you do wish to purchase Woody, click on the box shot. Now onto the gameplay video....
