My Build 14 Storyline

Which storyline should I work on? (Most Popular Vote)

I am writing questbook ideas in my notebook at the current moment, and then I will add the locations into the game. I need to learn how to code though.

If you get stuck, just post in the forum asking for help ;)

Do you want me to move this topic to the "other" storyline part of the forum until you establish it a bit now?

As soon as my summer break begins, I will begin work on the mod. For now I will read the tutorials and ask people like Magee and Bartolomeu about coding and stuff like that. I will begin by adding my brand new islands into the mod as well.

Do you think, when I add Padres Del Fuego as an island, it could be owned by different nations in different eras?

In the first two eras, it should be owned by.

Quite possible, yes. We did the same with pretty much all other islands. :yes
Though your storyline can be set during one Period only... :?

It will be set in one period only (early explorers), but Padres Del Fuego will be an island in all of the storylines as well, not for any quests, but a place that can be visited. I don't want it only in my storyline, since Jack Sparrow for instance, sometimes operates out of Padres.

Pieter and I are probably the ones that will put you in the write direction (Bartolomeu and SJG are less active than me and Pieter) but everyone who knows something about what your stuck on will do their best to help ;)

Do you think you can do some of the coding for the storyline while I will skin, work on the storyline, questbooks, and dialog?

You probably need to do the coding yourself, but we'll point you in the right direction whenever you need help. :yes

Adding an imaginary island to all storylines? To be honest, this bother me.

There wouldn't be much problem adding this in Seadogs or stock PotC. But we tried in the Build mod to recreate a map more closely looking to the true caribbean - I mean, we even gave us the trouble to rename all stock PotC island. This sort of go against that work. Shouldn't it require more discussion first?

I'm glad to see that someone is going to work on a spanish storyline, set in the early explorer time - I had been expecting this... Thought you know, you don't necessary need to tight it up with Jack Sparrow universe. :wp

There's some truth in that, of course. If you use the Isla de Muerta code, you can initialize your needed island in your storyline only. Alternatively, you could have the island you add be a real-life one, such as the Isla Mona we added for Bartolomeu's Assassin storyline.

Thought you know, you don't necessary need to tight it up with Jack Sparrow universe. :wp
Very much agreed. Personally, I would be quite happy if there'd only be Jack Sparrow influences on the Jack Sparrow storyline and have every single other one be its own story rather than another movie tie-in.

I know Bartolomeu occasionally puts in PotC movie characters and I don't rightly know why. :?

Like we say to everyone with a new mod idea, the way it is going to happen if you do it yourself getting help from us, we wont do it for you :no

There is no way I would do your storyline coding, you just have to look at Jack Sparrow and see that there is still 2 current movies to do (which Im supposed to be doing) :facepalm

The reason I want a movie tie in with EL Patron, is because he is apart of the POTC universe! They mention him in POTCO. Padres Del Fuego is one of the islands you can visit as well. Also, there are two islands in the game that aren't real, Isla Mona and Bonaire.

I'm pretty sure Bonaire is real; I've been there! :shock
And Isla Mona also exists; it's West of Puerto Rico:

Petit Tabac (the former Battle Rocks) in the middle of the archipelago also exists; they even filmed part of Pirates of the Caribbean there. It's not actually at that spot though. The same goes for Eleuthera, which also exists, but is positioned elsewhere. And the order of Bonaire, Aruba en Curacao in the game is wrong when compared to real life.

The only really not existing island in the game is Isla de Muerte, which in the game only exists when you've got Jack's compass. It code-wise literally doesn't exist until that time.

Alternatively to using the existing story of El Patron, you could also make your own story of a Spanish conquistador, perhaps inspired by the El Patron one, but not necessarily the same. That also allows you more freedom to make the story do whatever you want.
