Here is the latest version of the Neptunus coverted by Rider88: http://pyratesahoy.com/coas/Rider88/Neptunus_v1.02.7z

Hi,

I have been working on this in my spare time, it is the Neptunus a Dutch Privateer built in Ostende in 1720. I have posted this in the PotBS forums as I aim to get it put into that game, obviously any ships I model you guys are welcome to use. Poly count will be optimised after completion:)

I will post images of his Large Merchant Frigate (Architectura Navalis Mercatoria PL III) when I get the chance.

AWESOME!

I found the Neptunus thread on Potbs a while ago and thought it would be a great ship for PotC...
And very good modelling, too (a bit high poly at some places, tough)

I will post images of his Large Merchant Frigate (Architectura Navalis Mercatoria PL III) when I get the chance.

Just had a look at my copy of the ANM, plate III and VIII ?!
Merchants certainly won´t be easy prey anymore... :bow

Except for the first link I got "page not found".

Same here.

Thanks for the replies,

The links should work now:)

Regards,

James

The Neptunus is currently having masts made for it, I am using masting dimensions from the book "Historic Ship Models" by Wolfram Zu Mondfeld, the masts have been made to length and tapered to the correct proportions as shown in the chart under Dutch 1650 proportions (with some possible alterations). I will post an update as soon as I have something worth showing. :)

Hi,

A quick update on my brothers Merchant PLIII, the model has been coloured to help show seperate parts and he has added a set of cannons I made to show what it looks like armed. The head has been finished with the head timbers and headrails going to the cathead knee, the crosstrees and trestletrees are up and hopefuly sitting right although these will probably be redone. The colours will not be on the finished model, the ship will be textured.

Any feedback welcome,

Very good job on the bowsprit! I´d love to see a wireframe of the headrails :)

But I think the catheads should be 'connected', I gonna post a pic in an hour or so to show you what I mean as I have to do the same for the Southampton.

Do you mean a Jib boom on the bowsprit or the old style Sprit top masts?

A sprit top mast would be a bit anachronistic for this ship imo :p

Added a wireframe for you, and about the Catheads, that what he thinking of doing so he could add bowchasers. :)

Added a wireframe for you,[...]

Thanks, very appreciated. Always good to see how other modellers tackle such tricky areas.
Again, a very good job :)

Here´s what I meant with connected catheads:

Another thing I noticed: the block and the lacing piece is too big for a chapman ship, he reduced these to a minimum. If you have a close look at the plan, you´ll notice that there´s a gap between the figurhead and the hair bracket. :)

(This is how I´ve done it when I tried to build the privateer from plate XXXIII)

Just a update on my brother's Merchant, he has been working on the shrouds and tops.

Here it is so far:

And here is a 6lb Continental Cannon (6ft Long) I made for the Neptunus. I made this as I needed to see if a scaled 6lber would fit on the deck and fit through the port, as the potbs supplied scale cannon reference didn't look right. Total polygons for this is 1619 and I plan to make more eventually.

Small update:

I have started on the standing rigging of the Neptunus, I have put on Bava's textures for the images (Thanks Bava). I am still learning texture mapping so it aint perfect.
