Hornblower Storyline Ship Use

Short Jack Gold, please see this file for your approval on ship use: http://www.pyratesahoy.com/build/b14_b2_wip/Hornblower.7z
We'll probably replace RN_Surprise for the HMS Lydia with the HMS_Unicorn, which should match fairly well with her size according to the books.
Please let me know what you think! I don't want to override any of your original intentions, I just want to make your storyline better! :doff
Hi Pieter,
Downloaded - at first glance the quest is far behind what I have.
However - earlier this week my main computer DIED so I am working on another machine as of now.
I have reloaded using b 14_beta1_full on top of which I have put b_14b1_p7

I have managed to reclaim some of my original latest work and am currently replaying and adding the additional quest material.
I AM finding though that many of the characters (heads) are really screwed up, and I am now doubting some of the models themselves are not the latest.
I am hoping I can recover these.
This is a problem I have noticed in the past.
We NEED to be sure that head numbers are checked when new characters are added.

Regarding the ships, the only real concern I have, is with the french ship in the first battle, that it is not made too strong.
The battle itself can take a long time - a really long time for wimps like me - I am am concerned that this might put some players off.
Also please recommend a ship type for the Grasshopper - I want it for Bracegirdle.

Just a comment here - when going from place to place (location reload) it seems to take a long time for the reload.
BUT - I am on a much slower machine now. (altogether now - Ahhh!!! :? )

While I am here, where can I get a copy of the program that compares different versions of say two different quest files?
I just can't remember the name to search for it. (I must be getting old - altogether now - Ahhh!!! :? again).

DRAT! Sorry to hear that, mate. :(

That's weird. From what I recall, I took great care in not overwriting files that were already there. :facepalm

Hmm... maybe not the FR_FirstRate then (repainted HMS Victory). Maybe Le Superbe then; nice model, but not as huge.

Also please recommend a ship type for the Grasshopper - I want it for Bracegirdle.
Apparently the Grasshopper is a two-masted sloop-of-war. Maybe you can use the HMS_Speedy (14 gun Speedy class Brig) there then? Or HMS_Sophie (18 gun Brig sloop)?

It seems the location reloads are taking longer a longer; probably because of all the locations we've added. :facepalm

Here is the King's version,

slooproy.png

I'll see if I some time do something on the Neptunus.

I will check with Pgargon's models, and if it's ok, I will put the textures in my folder on FTP

Thanks a lot! We should probably use the Napoleonic red-and-black texture for Le Reve though.

I've replaced the Volcano (Battleship1) now with Le Superbe (FR_Superbe) and changed all dialog references accordingly.

O.K. that will work.

Thanks.

I just had a check, the Pgargon's version uses the same hull files, I have some texture glitches over the added details but i probably comes from my computer

I put the textures on ftp and right here :

Napoleonic : bortoutsloop8

Royal : bortoutsloop9

Thanks a lot; tomorrow I'll get things ready for the AoP-based Le Reve in the game. :woot
Then all we need is the additional detail to be ported later and we'll be good to go.

If you're suggesting we use Le Superbe for the Volcano, shouldn't we call her that? If not... nice name! :cheeky
Why not use Téméraire anyway? That way, she's the lead ship of her class, so it's all the more reason to sink her. :keith
I guess that means you'd have to make the dialogue changes again, but at least it's just 'Find/Replace' work.

By the way, I'll see about porting the upgraded AOP sloop tomorrow, hopefully.

Fine by me; ship still FR_Superbe, renamed now to the Téméraire in the dialog and questbook files.

Upgraded AoP sloop sounds good!

This project is great news! The one thing I didnt like about the hornblower quest is that it didnt use as many high detail ships as possible, good to see that being fixed! :onya Just a few comments; the Unicon should definately not be used if at all avoidable, way too early and doesnt look like an english frigate of the period at all. I was thinking of building the HMS Apollo, virtually the standard english class of 36 gun frigate at the time of Hornblow and likely the basis forester used for the Lydia ... If someone wanted to get the Revolutionnaire ingame I could give them her files: she wouldbe a fairly close fit for both the Mageceinne or the Lydia with different textures. :cheeky

I replaced the FR_Sloop with the Sloop3 model, using Seb's red skin. I also removed the semi-Dutch green Sloop3 itself, so that cuts down another ship. :dance

- Magicienne (FR_Frigate) - Definitely not FR_Fleuron, she's not period correct. Maybe either a French texture of the Indefatigable, or use FR_BattleFrigate?
Based on my thoughts of replacing La Boussole's role in the Standard (Sea Hawk) storyline, perhaps we could use the model (FR_Boussole) here instead? :shrug
She has the same number of guns as FR_Frigate, and so would be an ideal replacement for the Magicienne.

Also, I have a feeling Le Reve should be spelt as Le Rêve, if it's meant to be the French for 'Dream'. Can the circumflex accent (ê) be used in-game?

Not entirely sure of her exact storyline purpose at the moment, but I have no objections to just using the FR_BattleFrigate. I'm just wondering if we can use the Boussole with her current paint scheme anywhere.
Maybe some other storyline use? One of the modders' ships or one in the Jack Sparrow storyline instead, which doesn't need to be overly historically accurate?

Not sure. Probably depends on the font used. At the moment, my game uses the swapped font as per Baste, but he suggested we may want to return to the original font as per Patch 7.

Perhaps we could use her in the JS storyline, but which modder would use her? Does anyone use a particularly low-quality ship?

That's what I thought. Which file or files do I need to look at to check if the accent exists?

Not sure, though a lot of them use the same ship from what I recall. Oh well, we'll see later I suppose.
Unless I'm very much mistaken, though, most modders' ships never really appear. I'll make an overview of the Jack Sparrow storyline ships soon and then we can see where she might work.

I just checked and fonts_new.ini does have it in there, so we can give it a try.

Done in my files. Not 100% sure if it'll display correctly, but it is done.

Hello guys!
first of the story line of the game is AMAIZING!!!!!
secondly i support the change of HMS Hotspur to the ship model-HMS Greyhound.
BUT!!! the ship indeed is very alike to the ship from the series but if you can make a new model of hte same ship with a few changes it will be it.
i think the changes need to be:
1. the wheel suppose to be in the upper deck not in the lower one.
2. to add a table in the upper deck right before the wheel.
3.(the must important)-the cabin interor....its too big for the ship XD.. soo maybe you can change it to the small ships cabin and it will be perfect.

and another thing, can you pls tell me in what program you using to creat the ship models?

:gday

The Hornblower story is a lot of fun. For ship modeling you should visit the "storm engine modeling" sub forum down the page.
