Released Frigate "Rossiya", 1728

Continued from my last post:

To complement the video. The mains'l should actually match the main tops'l here.

For step 2. The t'gallant should mimic the behavior of the main t'gallant and main royal in the drawing.
For step 7. The fore tops'l should mimic the behavior of the fore tops'l here.

For step 4. The sail should be hanging loosely along the entire thing, like the aft third here. It should be bundled to the gaff at four equally spaced points.

Explaining step 5: The sail won't receive any of the breeze. It is completely blocked by the fores'l.

A diagram to help explain how the squares are doused.

For steps 3 and 6. For furled heads'ls, see the sails lying on the jibboom. For the stays'ls, see the doused sail bundled loosely in the foretop, right below the foretops'l yard. (Not the gaff-rigged sail, the one above it. It's hard to see, but it's the only good picture I could find.)

Finally, the fores course should look more like either of the courses in the following two videos:
Medium breeze:
25 knot breeze: (hooray!)

If you want to make the sails behave like it's less windy, I can provide about twenty excellent photographs of that, too. I got a few excellent ones while swimming with a waterproof camera.

Edit: films not showing up. Wait a minute or two.

Thanks for the advice. It's a lot to digest, but I think I've understood your instructions. Had to get it all down on paper to visualise the whole layout.
One question just to be sure: are any stays'ls meant to remain set as they are in the renders?

Something to bear in mind is that the wind simulation in Maya does not care about obstacles; the same force applies to all cloth surfaces regardless of whether they should be blocked by others in reality.
I should be able to fake most of the sail states, though.

One thing's for sure: all this goes to show just how false the sailing is in pretty much every Age of Sail-based game we've seen.

EDIT: By the way, I'm slowly making progress on the Bellona upgrade alongside this. Will hopefully have something screenshot-worthy soon.

OK then. I'll see how much I can set up tomorrow.

Nitpicking post for future reference...

-Boomkins missing (I need to double check the model ingame to be sure)
-More/reworked pins and pinrails

Ah, I forgot about boomkins because there was no reference to them in either the plans or the model photos.

Hmm. that's troubling... They're kind of important. A flogging for the creator of that original model then. :cheeky

hi could you give me a frigate Russia format MAYA 5. md for adaptation to the Russian version of the game Corsairs

привет не могли бы вы мне дать фрегат Россия в формате MAYA 5 .md для адаптации под русскую версию игры корсары

Hey mates,

any news on an working sailoroints file yet?
Give the attached version a try. I found and fixed an issue where one point was linked to itself four times, which could have been the cause of bad performance.
Please let me know if it works properly.

Could be a contemporary model of the Russia:

And a not so contemporary plan ;)

Sorry, its sill not working :(
What exactly seems to be wrong? Could you describe any specific problems?
I'm a bit clueless at the moment, because the crew walk around the ship properly in the Sailor Tool.

@Bava: Wow, those lines look very familiar! Where did you find the images?
They might be the same ship or one of her sisters of the Kreyser class. Either way, it looks like an excellent reference for the interior when I come to revisit the model.
It seems I was wrong about the curtains in the cabin, though.

Good point, it doesn't look like a full deck below the gun deck. Just platforms and storage space. Less work, at least! :D

I had the day off and spent a couple of hours on some rather obscure russian ship modelling sites. That´s where I´ve found the pictures of the Russia. Got one gig of high-res plans (including pretty much every SoL the british built/captured) , drawings and paintings. And, most probably, a virus or two.

@PC

The curtain's a neat detail, but the problem is that there should be a solid hull with a small door behind it :p

What he said. You can very clearly make out a door-shaped gap by the quarter gallery on the model.

On the bright side, it looks like I positioned the capstan correctly on the gun deck.
However, I'm a bit confused on the location of the second capstan on the weather deck. That's right where I put the main hatch and boats. :unsure

I must have been mistaken, but I remember something similar being done. That capstan is odd. I don't recall having seen one placed like that before; must have something to do with Russian customs.
