WIP - HMS Shannon (1806) 38 guns

I've uploaded the original cannons I sent you (two sizes), this time in MB format, here: CannonsPack2.7z
I'd recommend using these versions instead, because they have better UV mapping and more refined geometry (you might want these as well, Captain Armstrong).
They use the same textures as the ones I sent in the first CannonsPack, and also work with the red Inzanagun1 that Captain Armstrong uses.

hey, not relevant to this thread,
but do you know if the Rossiya is in any of the game's? been looking for it the closest model i can find is the HMS Surprise.
thanks.

She's "Frigate1" . Or any of the other frigates in the game, if you prefer a different colour scheme.

Managed to catch a stomach virus, puked black, hospital visit, etc

Fun times but I'm on the mend now, and also off work, so got more time to finish up the Shannon ;)

As far as I'm concerned the rigging is now finished, unless anyone spots something that should be changed :p

Just need to make textures for the ropes and blocks.

Got all the cannon in now and with their textures, using the red texture, big version for the 18lbers and small for the 9lbers, so thanks :)

Both types scaled up on their previous dimensions, 9ft length for the 18lb and 8ft for the 9lb.

The to-do list is now mostly finding/making textures, a little reworking the hull UVs so that the planking follows the hull lines rather than being horizontal bow to stern, weather deck details and deciding how to do the captains cabin. Torn between cleared for action (all the bulkheads and furniture stowed away, also known as the simple option) and fully furnished, which would be more interesting but wouldn't really fit with the guns being run out. Also, if semi-transparent glass isn't possible it might look better from the outside with textured solid glass (which doesn't necessarily have to be visible from the interior, would still be able to look out the windows)

Sorry I've taken so long to get back here; I'll still be incredibly busy for a few more weeks.
Great job- the model's looking very good. (Disclaimer: I haven't been able to look at any proper rigging plans of the Shannon)The only thing bothering me is the small number of stays and backstays. It looks like the re-rigged Trincomalee now, but I've always seen more stays on Napoleonic men of war. Look at plans for the Constitution, for example. With traditional hemp rigging, the standing rigging, (minus the shrouds) would be barely sufficient to support the rig strain of a working vessel. There should also be some whisker stays run on the side of the bowsprit and jibboom. The ones going to the jibboom should be run from the hull to the sprit yard yardarms, and to the jibboom. I can find pictures or plans in you like. They essentially function as shrouds for the headrig.

Now you have too many... CA, do you have anything that might help? I'm a bit busy at the moment... (If you aren't too busy as well, that is.)

The last image is especially good, since it shows all the stays and the t'gallant masts that are long enough to accommodate skys'ls. In the model, those masts should be lengthened to be consistent with frigates of the time, but the skys'ls should be left off.

I also found a plan that shows all the typical stays on a frigate of that type that I'll upload soon.

Edit: This is not it, but it gives a very good idea of what should be there.

Hadn't noticed Trincomalee having a flying jibboom because its positioned offset from the jibboom itself.

All that's left now is weather deck details and some textures, plus I want to add a little more rigging detail. External hull is complete and I've decided to leave the captains cabin cleared for action, so almost ready to start exporting to Maya.

The length of the flying jibboom and the jibboom should just be the length of the jibboom. Adding a flying jibboom would mean adding an extra spar not shown on the sail plan. They were very common in that day and age, (Since this vessel is in her late Napoleonic state) so that is very justifiable. Proportions could be taken from the spar plan of any other heavy frigate.
