An ambitious project

This fort's textures and building in it look very much like AOE3 for me. Wasn't it in the game? Good luck importing it. I'm always keen on new locations.:onya

I don't know if it was in AOE3 game. I found it in the "SketchUp warehouse" and made a minor change to the model. This week-end, I'll convert it as an .obj. file and if I found no problem, I'll send that to Pieter.

Better send it to Armada. I can't do anything with it. :shrug

All depends on what Armada can be convinced to do; I think he's the only one who knows how to do it.
I can change this with tutorials, if anyone else wants to help with exporting from Maya to GM. Being the only one with this knowledge isn't fun. :walkplank

So this is Cartagena.

The place is huge!! :8q I like that. :onya

Too many of the textures are very low rez and this subtracts from the enjoyment of just wandering around ogling the buildings. It is far from finished yet so I can't be too critical.
One thing. Because it is so big how many NPCs will it take to fill it up and how will they impact frame rates?

The look was supposed to be near-final. I already improved the ground texture on the Palace Square location.
I do think that "Cloister" doesn't look the best though. And the walls of the Palace aren't the best either, but I don't know how to do anything about that.

Personally I never had much of an NPC frame-rate problem. Thought I do think it would be best to stick to the default number for simplicity's sake.

Here's the Maracaibo fort. As I said yesterday, it needs new textures. I think I could "adapt" textures used in previous works.
When the POTC community adds the Maracaibo town, I'll work on the fort...

You weren't kidding! I just gave Cartagena a proper visit for once, and the scale is pretty impressive. :shock
It's a shame about the walk patch in the main square, though. There are several steps and staircases that are inaccessible, but it would be great to open them up eventually.

And one inconsistent feature is the colour of the outer walls. The port and first part of town use the beautiful Spanish textures for the walls by the gates, but the main square uses a different one:

(And that screenshot makes for an awesome optical illusion: tiny guards or massive gate? :cheeky)

I'd also like to see something done (read: do something myself) about the fort in the port model at some point. It seems odd being so close to the docks.
Plus, the improvements I made to the normal fort model's texture mapping and normals (affecting the edges and shadows) are notably absent there.

Wall texture on the VCO location, eh? Indeed that used to be the London model. I already swapped out those flags hanging down with Spanish ones instead of British.
If I get the chance, I'll see about editing the texture used. Perhaps it won't be too hard?

If you change the position of the fort, I will have to make new walk patchs and make again all the locators i use for the Cartagena's attack.:shock
About the wall in the Cartagena Center, if it's possible, that would be indeed a good idea to use the same texture than the one in the port.

I've sent two new forts for Armada...:p

This one is Fort Lorenzo of Panama:

and this one is Fort Santa Pola of Alicante (Spain)

Cool! The game does look better with REAL forts instead of castle thingeys. :woot

All of that would need changing? I thought the fort was just for decoration. :wp
If I do make any changes, I'll leave the fort where it is, then.

Will this do?
