Active Promotion and Recruiting on Other Sites

Posting allot of stuff without any actual substance just works against us, as we seem to be stagnating from the readers point of view.
Since all our profiles aren't specifically about HoO, it is still possible to post stuff with substance about anything else Age of Sail/game related to maintain our visibility.
And there will be a PotC: New Horizons update soon which is probably the biggest news we'll be able to post for a while.
It is always an effective trick to tie in some HoO stuff with that. So if there is anything you can prepare for when that time comes, that might be a nice one.

Yeah - sorry, I was thinking specifically HoO - and forgot about all the other non-HoO relayed stuff... Hehehehe *blush*:wp

I did not mean that other stuff was without substance - just in case anybody thought that... Hehehe

But yes - I think that ultimately a "fixed" "official" package should be posted on all of them - then other personal teasers will work as the added spice in between.

I figure that you meant that "posting random stuff about HoO when there isn't any real news" would be without substance.
And you're very much correct. We can just fill those gaps with posts about all sorts of other things just to keep out profiles viisble and hopefully get the people viewing them actually somewhat active.

Absolutely agreed. I actually thought about making some sort of "promotion package" already over a year ago, which was one of the reasons I was making screenshots with watermarks and stuff like that.
But it would work much better once there is something more substantial to show off. So by all means, go forth with that idea! :onya

I'm a YouTuber myself so I've meet and watched many people over the years and could suggest several YouTubers who have a good chance of liking the game. We would need to know before speaking to any of them is if the game with have a multiplayer element. Many big YouTubers play in groups, such as The Yogscast. Also some of them will do interviews with the developers, if we can find and devs interested in that.

@JohnSilver has definitely been including some network elements as well.
Hopefully he or Armada will be around soon so they can clarify on that part of the project.

@Armada and/or @JohnSilver: Would you be up for any interviews? I reckon you two would be best suited.

It would be cool if we could get the Extra Credit guys to make mention of us. Might fit in with their Extra History series.
Unfortunately, I don't think EC will feature games unless they tie into a topic they're covering - and early WIP games like ours are almost certainly out of the question.
It would be cool for them to cover a relevant historical topic in Extra History, but only their Patreon supporters can vote on that.

Potentially, though I'd be more inclined to do a written interview if we ever get the opportunity.

That's great, mate.

And yeah - I would treat those youtubers as we would treat magazines, websites and any kind of media.

The "package" we send will be a professional PR package - with well written info, carefully picked and processed images, Video clips and so on.

Most of the time a written interview is done - but on rare occasions (if the game starts to become popular) a phone/Skype or personal interview will be of desire.

If that ever becomes an issue - it will be a luxury problem :p

I have myself sat in the receiving part of the line of such "packages" in different areas of the entertainment business - and at least know very well what to NOT send ;)

You have just tickled my curiosity. :wp

Why Pieter... Have you forgotten everything from my application for HoO aaaaaaaaaaaall that time ago?? :p
Just kidding... Who ever remembers such things... :D

Now you will make me sound like a big brag...

I have many years behind me as a talent scout for the music business, tour manager, a producer and artist. A bachelor's degree in stage arts. I have fronted companies like Coca Cola Europe with my music, had a couple of no1 hits in my home country and numerous other billboard listings.

Me and my colleagues have won prizes for our music for the commercial industry as well

The recent years before I started my own company I was the head office manager of (at the time) the biggest Life Style magazine here in Norway, where we released 12 different magazines 4 times a year.

I also wrote music, film and game reviews for said magazine (IN Magasinet (lit trans: inn magazine - similar style of magazine as LIFE Magazine in New York)

And now - PA member and partner of Wolf Pack Games *salute*:monkeydance

Indeed I didn't remember all that. It's been a while.....

But I was thinking more about those specifics of "what NOT to send" from your post.
It sounds like there might be some funny stories there. :cheeky

I got enough for a whole forum I am sure...

For example a (at the time) 48 year Old women sending naked pics of herself along with her (truly shitty) demo - because she had heard Sex sells...

And worst part... She was the mother of a friend of mine - and she did not know what I worked with.... :modding

I am not making that up guys....

Wait, WHAT?!?? Yes, let's NOT do that; I fully agree. :shock

I try to keep ontop of things where i can although i don't feel like i do nearly enough :(

Do you have time and opportunity to do more? If you are able to, but don't know what is worth doing, I'm sure we can think of some extra things to do.
For example you can post the occasional WIP screenshot from HoO on Facebook and IndieDB.

You can also use Facebook AS PiratesAhoy. Then when you go to the main Facebook page, you'll get a list of all the news posts from the "Pages" that we follow.
If you see anything interesting in there, you can like it and/or repost it on our own profile. Perhaps that may even lead to front page articles for the main PiratesAhoy! site.
That doesn't give any HoO news, of course, but keeping our profiles visible at all would be worth something too.

This could also be done with the YouTube channel.

I am not sure, i would hate to commit to something and then have to back out similar to what the situation was with Pirates Odessey as soon as crunch time hit i had my busiest month of the year x.x

Hopefully if work stabilizes then i will be able to make better decisions.

At least the things I am suggesting don't have a deadline. When you do any of those, it helps make our profiles more visible.
And if you have no time anymore, then we become a bit invisible again unless somebody else takes over. But so be it. We all have lives of our own, don't we?
At least it is better when those things are done occasionally than if they aren't being done at all. :cheeky
