MK says that xebec ship was never meant to be included. He says its a fantasiey ship and he just forgot to code it out completely and that it shouldnt show up in game anyway.

he says hes coding out the color sails completely too. Hes working on it a lot right now. Hes putting in islands and they show up on the map! http://www.moddb.com/members/modernknight1

That is what I suspected based on the script codes with the Xebec,no harm done.
I will omit this ship as an update in the HD Ship Portraits Sub-mod when completed.

Most likely this is being caused by a ship type that were not rechecked for either a demast crash error or model problem.
In my personal installation, I have fixed most of these type of errors, but I have no compiled a patch release.
Stability is not really a issue in this mod, but it only takes a couple of wankered files to throw a screwball into the mix.
Sometimes the Storm engine can be problematic even if there is no issue with a ship model.

Something to look forward to is additional potential development using the ENHANCED POTEHO Storm Engine which improved the performance of the engine used in CoAS.
BlackMark Studios cleaned up the code.

No patches have been released at this time, as GOF Eras Module #2 has been relocated for continued development in another potential website.
I do plan to do a full beta test of the final patch #1 for the creator based on my Storm experience to identify any leftover problems including demast issues, flag problems, model issues, and quest among others.
However, this will be several months in the future.

I really, really, really, really, really want to play this mod. It does everything I want it to and more but it seems that it can't be downloaded anywhere. Is there anyone who already has the game that would be able to maybe make a torrent or something and upload it for a bit?

I've read ModernKnights blog but to be honest waiting until Mid-May is torture when a mod does everything you want it to but you just can't get it.

Since the owner of this mod saw fit to remove it from our community, you will have to get in touch with him about it.

I reckon there is really no reason for this thread to remain open, topic locked.

It is still being worked on elsewhere

If you want to find newer versions of GOF or other mods for COAS follow the advice in these posts:-

The De Zeeroovers mod is on their own site. :yes

:drunk

Very good quote in your signature Talisman. So VERY True!

I thought I saw a post hereabouts a short while back about French and Spanish mod sites still working on their own versions as well, so this game IS still fairly popular and still being modified. Seeing that this is the recent subject of the conversation on this thread, I don't understand why no one has already mentioned it here, but if you simply Google: Buccaneer's Reef you will find a site that has an incredibly good Age of Pirates 2 game modification and it is still being actively worked on by an English speaking community. So here is yet again another group working on their own independent website. It is very clear that this effort is a continuation of the Gentlemen of Fortune mods. Its actually called Gentlemen of Fortune Eras. I would caution anyone that wants to try it that you should have a fairly capable computer if you want it to run well. If you do, its both excellent and very rewarding gameplay. The download also takes hours but in my opinion well worth the patience.

Also earlier on in this thread someone said you could buy flags in Age of Pirates 2. This is not the case. Flags are perks in Age of Pirates. You can choose to select to take one when your abilities allow. In the Eras modification they have made it so that many of the starting characters already have several or all of the flags to begin with which is excellent and more realistic.

Happy Hunting fellow pirate game players

And what was the bad experience?

First off, Happy New Year!

Second, interesting post on policy and explanation. That post said there would be further discussion of the matter. Did that ever happen? I certainly have not found that discussion here if it ever did occur. Not to start an argument or cause angst against anyone, but I would like a better explanation. I have read a great deal on this site recently including the link provided. I have also read Modern knight's commentary on Buccaneer's Reef. As an outsider looking in, this does not make any sense to me at all. It seems to me from so much of my reading here, that Modern knight is a gifted writer and was an excellent contributor. He seems passionate and his posts here are some of the most insightful and knowledgeable I've read concerning the subject matter that your common interests intersect in. I see the actions against him as rash and not well thought out. Is there something that has been omitted from the common reader/member's view that I have missed? It looks to me as if the moderators here "closed ranks" on him and took sides - one side over another.

From an outsider's view, I would think that a site focused on Pirate games and subject matter would be more concerned with giving its readers and members good useful information concerning their hobby and gaming interests, rather than holding onto some kind of ridiculous grudge for something so inane as comparing someone to Hitler in a heated moment. It also seems clear from reading Rackham's post after the announcement, that there was some disagreement on this decision from longtime members and it was not a unanimous action. So why should the mention of Buccaneer's Reef and the Gentlemen of Fortune Eras modification be such a forbidden subject? This should be offered as another of many gaming options for your members to consider. Adults and professionals look beyond simple scruples at what is best for the common interest. This is just good sense and it also illustrates a stance of taking the moral high-ground - being "better than that", as it were.

All I can say is that this site is excellent and has a bevy of good information. However, so does Buccaneer's Reef. I am very glad to have stumbled upon both sites. I am sorry but I do harbor a bias. I am a retired senior officer in the US military myself and I will always close ranks with my own. Integrity is important to me and I think from thoroughly reading dozens of Modern knight's posts that he is a man after my own heart and a man of integrity as well. So you will have to do better in showing me more and explaining more, concerning these "bad experiences" in order to bring me over to your camp in the matter.

Modern knight recently made a post on Buccaneer's reef where he accused members of being spineless for being silent. I have downloaded the eras mod and played it for dozens of hours over the holidays. It is simply excellent. I make this post in direct challenge to Modern knight's accusation. I am not spineless and am grateful for all of the enjoyment this game has brought to me during both a major transition and grieving period in my life. I look forward to any civilized and/or articulate reply beyond a link and weak PR announcement that explains this in greater detail. If the man has indeed done something so horrible that you have not wanted to reveal it to the masses than I apologize in advance and await the revelation and enlightenment of this egregious act on his part.

I don't wanna comment something which I wasn't part of. Though I am downloading the Eras Mod cause I was looking for a good AoP2 Mod, and that one seems to be updated just like New Horizons is. That is good stuff. Other personal issues do not interest me since I have no idea about the matter and cannot say who's right or wrong. The fact that we have two awesome Mods (I assume that Eras mod is awesome as well) that are still being developed is a good thing to know and to be happy about. :)

Happy New Year to you as well! :)

I have never heard of this Modern Knight person and I never read the terms before until now. However, to answer Truth Serum's above post( I wish the terms would be in subsections like laws) But if I may be so bold, I have gone through the links and mostly MK has been accusing someone( I won't say who but It does say who) of abandoning PA, Incorrect usage of facts, Bad accusations on MK part of reading, also mentioning something he is doing, etc. Carefully note the terms say This:
[However, we have been seeing an increasing amount of attacks on the forum, both personal and directed at PiratesAhoy! as a group.
We have overlooked these for the most part, even though any personal issues should be kept to Private Messages and not be posted on the public board.
This message by our most long-term forum member also explains quite well why the attacks on PiratesAhoy! itself are uncalled for.
Another related issue is an attempt to use the Hearts of Oak recruitment forum for one of our member's own commercial desires,
without the team's explicit permission. This clearly indicates a conflict of interest and does not belong in a public area.

The one thing that cannot be ignored though is to compare a respected contributor to a certain notorious historical person
and subsequent attempts to publicly smear the name of said member.
This is not behaviour that we expect from any member of our community,
but is especially concerning as all the above was posted by one of our own Staff Members.

The involved person should know, by now, that I have always done what I can to support him and his work and so have many other forum members.
Therefore, the decision has not been taken lightly, but after careful consideration
the remaining PiratesAhoy! Staff Members have agreed that such continued misconduct can no longer be tolerated.
We are truly sorry that it has had to come to this, but the aforementioned member is hereby banned from our community.

As always, we remain happy to support all members on this forum, old and new, wherever and whenever we can manage.
Modding on the Storm Engine games will continue to the best of our abilities, as will our development on Hearts of Oak: Conquest of the Seas.
The only thing that we ask in return is for everybody to treat each other reasonably and respectfully.
If anyone has any valid concerns about general or personal issues, the PiratesAhoy! The staff is always willing to discuss this as reasonable people.

Clearly is in violation of the terms outlined in the terms. You cannot promote your own commercial ideas by using the HOO recruitment forum. You definitely cannot call someone a" little Hitler nutjob" That is why MK is banned. If any of the moderators wish to delete my post since I wasn't in the original argument, I will respect their choice as it didn't involve me and I did not get their permission to write this. I will not say who MK was referring to because I like to think of it as confidentiality of the person( I wish to be a lawyer but that Barr exam is scary looking). I hope this does answer your question though.

Sorry, but
He has made a lot of trouble. MK is not the fine gentleman. He is locked in the German forum.
Why, again such talks. It would be nice, if this issue would be terminated.

Who wants to work with MK .... please.
But let the others in peace. Damned discussions

This is the GOF2 thread and it seems someone has an AGENDA.

I like GOF2 and wish it was still being worked on. I also wish I could speak German.

To clarify on what has been discussed above, the decision was unanimous between all PiratesAhoy! site staff, including the site owner.
Not every member on this site was involved for obvious reasons.
All members who voiced concern about it either in public or in private have been given a fair explanation and respect the decision.

A "PiratesAhoy! camp for people to join" does not exist and never will.
We refuse to drag out a fight that should have never been necessary in the first place.
It is best left where it belongs: In the past.

We have a very simple "live and let live" policy here. All we care about is to have fun with our pirate games.
Everybody who wants the same will always be welcome here in our community.

In the end, it all comes down to what is already said in the Statement Regarding PiratesAhoy! Policy | PiratesAhoy!
