Visit our website www.piratehorizons.com to quickly find download links for the newest versions of our New Horizons mods Beyond New Horizons and Maelstrom New Horizons!

Videos, of any type.

I was planning on releasing a couple of actual press releases when we get to a point were we think the demos are good enough to make a real push for publicity. We are not used to that kind of scrutiny yet, and we are slowly trying to ease in to it.

@Robert Nutter, I have invited you to the Facebook and ModDB thread, don't feel like you have to read the whole thing, but it will get you in that conversation anyway. :onya

@Captain Murphy, thanks! I'll have a trawl through then and see what can be re-used!

That's fair enough, there is such thing as too much exposure, afterall...

Thanks for adding me :onya

If you need any of the music for your video's, just say so.
most of what is finished and usable you can listen to on my forum page: http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/flannerys-music.20898/
Also I would suggest looking at @Tempesta 's music page at: http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/tempestas-music.25242/

Here is also the old video I made back in the days - and if you need any voicing, let me know. I do voicing professionally so I am sure i can help you get what ever you want of style should you need it.

@Flannery , this is brilliant! Thank you for the support :bow I was wondering how to approach the score aspect so impeccable timing too. I'll have a listen and get back to you here or through PM on exactly what I may need to use. Do you have original project files/samples/tracks? As that could definitely come in handy too when it comes to application.

A pro V/O artist is just what I'm after for the cinematic trailers. I'm guessing it's your voice in the video? I saw it when I first found out what HoO was and it was one of the things that made me want to be a part of it, so nice work with that :onya

@Pieter Boelen , let us hope that materializes!

EDIT: Any source footage I can 'borrow' from you would be hugely appreciated too, if you'd be willing :)

All of the music on "Flannery's Music" are original and my compositions, and are recorded by me in my own studio - so I have all original tracks and own all copyrights of course.
I also have tons of Sound FX material - all usable for commercial usage, so should you need anything at all, ask me - and if I dont have it, I may even acquire it for you ;)

And yes, its my voice on that video. I have my own recording studio so if you need any narrative work or such I can fix that.
Was that last EDIT meant for me? Any footage I used in that video should still be available in the FTP i guess. Its all part of Wedori's old Screenshots. But we should not use any of those though - at least thats my honest opinion.
Its done in a different engine - before we decided to move to Unity, so it is not really representative anymore. And besides - we need new footage from the current build ;)

I'm listening now and this stuff is motion picture good. :cheers I too have a fair library of SFX but more options never hurt anyone so I may well ask! Thanks for the offer, I may well take you up on it! I have my own location sound gear (boom mic, tascam , mixer etc) so vice versa if I can be of any use...

Indeed it was! I'm unfamiliar with what the FTP is, but I'm guessing it's a cloud location? I'm hoping to use all video with only infrequent stills, so I'm sure I won't have any trouble procuring more. Just a thought as some of them are truly edible!

I *can* record...thankfully I run off an SSD so FRAPS doesn't tend to hamper my FPS much if at all. The only thing is, my GPU can't handle anything above 720p 'Normal', so...I can't really do it full justice :/

In 2014, we had to do without the voice-acting because I just threw a "trailer" together myself:
I do believe that you guys can do much better!

Or the full selection of everything that I know exists here: :wp

@Pieter Boelen , that's a good video considering you 'threw' it together ;) but how did you remove the UI for that footage? As I'm desperate to find a method or work-around for that.

Oh all video material can be used - for sure. My video was made with only screenshots provided from a old test scene. Most of the video material available now can of course be used. And I am sure more can be recorded from the new build on demand

OH and it did not even HAVE a UI back then...:p

Just be sure to not forget those other composers who contributed either.
There have been six in total. ;)

Indeed @Pieter Boelen

But the sad fact is still that we do not know how much of that music we can hope to use in the end - apart from a very few pieces.

The reason being that the versions we have are of bad audio quality and most of the members who have made them never got back to us with more high quality sound files.

Many of them are of poor mp3 bitrates.

I am still trying to get a hold of each and every one of them to hopefully get good quality ones.

But until we get the better defined quality ones, I will not recommend using them.

Of course SOME of them can be used in the actual game - but not for a promo video.

Many are still also regarded as sketches by the artist themselves, and as long as they do not show up and approve the usage of them in their current form - they cannot be used either, out of respect to the composer.

But we have a very few ones who are finished and in a good enough quality.
Atm the only music we have full control over and know is up to par, or can be obtained in better quality is in fact my own and @Tempesta 's music.

From the top of my head we probably ONLY have 3 pieces of music other than ours which are usable right now in its current state.

But I can send you the name of those in a PM - @Robert Nutter

Just saying: They exist and can be listened to.
Other than that, you guys can figure it out. :shrug

I'd be happy to help maintain the youtube and facebook profiles too if need be...I've had pages on Facebook previously and still host/admin the popular Shogun 2: Total War group on there. As for youtube, it'd be great to get loads of custom banners etc on there. Who does artwork?
Pieter did the current banners for the PA! YouTube, Facebook and Twitter profiles, and I did the HoO banner that shows on the forum's notice bar and IndieDB, including the link icons for our social media profiles.
We also have the Hearts of Oak official website, which @Captain Murphy set up with a design proposed by @Ashinokami.

Admittedly, I'd like to update the notice/IndieDB banner at some point, since it doesn't really match any other styles we're currently using (and it still uses a CryEngine screenshot). Ideally, it would be good to bring the banner in line with the HoO site styling, though I reckon it might be worth revisiting that style, as well.

I don't know about the rest of you, but personally I'd like to see the full-colour HoO logo replace the white one where possible. I've already done this to some extent with the IndieDB article preview images that @Thagarr and I have used in recent weeks. You'll notice that I briefly tried a different style with the white logo for the July news update, but it didn't turn out very well. :wp

That'd be great @Flannery, thanks. Again, I know I sound like a broken record, but it's all about me having an A/V pool to work from at this point, before making a video of any description. :fiddler Too often sound is an after thought in promo when in some ways it's more important than the visuals...

I'm sure yours and Tempesta's scores will more than do for the meantime! If the other four come on and say we can use theirs, the more the merrier! :cheers

Regarding website's style, it was hastily implemented before I had chance to refine it, and as I don't really have time to learn web coding, not sure if I can fix it...
However as I work in graphic/package design nowdays, I can get back onto it, the design part. I'll look trough my mockups and account for what needs changing, and in couple of weeks will have to show something. This late not because it's a lot of work, but because I'm really really busy. Could do banners, concept art/ screenshot mock-ups too, but preferably after that, to maintain coherent style. Hope that's ok.

EDIT: note on Full color logos: to use one, SIGNIFICANTLY lighter background image has to be used. By now I've worked according to dozens of style guides, and can attest that every medium-to-large business has alternate logo versions for different backgrounds. 1 color, and 1 white/greyscale. All kinds of "shadows", "Glows" and other Photoshop'ey effects always fall in "Logo don'ts" section.
