A few questions

Hi!

I got this game recently and I have some questions.

1) There are 2 types of cannons, culverin and normal. It seems that culverin are faster in reload and got better range, is there something (like damage) that they are inferior to normal or are these just plain better?

2) How any promotions can I get? I got 3 promotions and I was getting 8k gold per month but then no more missions from the governor. I switched nation but again no missions.

3) There are some unique items in the game (3 swords, 1 pistol and 1 spyglass), how can I get these legit? Are these rewards for something?

4) Is there an easy way to farm exp?

That's for now, I will surelly have more in the future and I hope that there still someone on this forum to help me.

:ahoy

1) Culverins are better but are heavier and cost more. More cannon = less cargo.

For the others I really don't know. Just play the game.

After looking into the game files i found that Viscount (8k per month salary) is the final rank.

After changing the settings when starting a new game to have the max "Event frequency", after 6 boardings i got 2 of those unique items.

I think all that's left is to cap all the colonies now.

Is that really all there is in this game or am I missing something?
Are there more quests in the supermod?

Are there more quests in the supermod?
The only mod for any Storm Engine game that has more quests (and lots of them!) is the "New Horizons" one for the 2003 Pirates of the Caribbean game.

None of the mods for Age of Pirates nor Age of Pirates 2 contain any additional quests. :no

so..
I started messing around with the game files a bit, especially in the C:\Program Files\Playlogic\Age of Pirates - Caribbean Tales\Program\ships\Ships_init.c

I managed to change almost all the things I wanted to change except for the cannons.
For example let's say that I want any Manowar that spawns to have 120 cannons instead of 102, the lines that define that seem to be these:

refShip.CannonsQuantity = 102;
refShip.rcannon = 45;
refShip.lcannon = 45;
refShip.fcannon = 4;
refShip.bcannon = 8;

Now changing these to let's say these:

refShip.CannonsQuantity = 134;
refShip.rcannon = 60;
refShip.lcannon = 60;
refShip.fcannon = 4;
refShip.bcannon = 10;

After I make these changes the ship seems to have 134/134 cannons in the menu but it still shoots 45 balls from each side, 10 in the back and 4 in the front (tha's the only one done right but that's also the only one not changed).

Is there any other file(s) i should mess with to get it to shoot more balls?

The ship model still has 102 cannons so you now need to install the extra cannons on that ship model. Then it will fire those extra cannons.

You mean the .gm files found here: C:\Program Files\Playlogic\Age of Pirates - Caribbean Tales\RESOURCE\Models\Ships ?

If so, what program(s) should I use to edit these files?

Is there a video or some instrucrions on how to do that?
I don't know anything about programming, so it would help a lot.
Otherwise I will have to reinstall the game a few times due to my soon to fail tests.

This might be the silliest question so far. But since there are no stupid questions, only stupid people (and I feel a bit since I haven't found out on my own yet), I'm gonna ask it.
On the "Reputation" table in the character menu, there are the repitation standings with England, France, Spain, Holland, pirates, smugglers and traders.

Who are the "traders" and where I can find them?

And one more, I know I can repair my reputation with the four nations by talking (and paying a pretty sum) to that man in the Isla Mona tavern, also I can repair my rep with the pirates once, as far as I know, by killing Krieger and taking his place.

Is there any way I can repair my rep with the smugglers and the traders (given I learn who they are and where they are).
