Guide The tips thread

I deposited all of my money to the moneylenders before the fight with the flying dutchman (the one I was supposed to lose)
but when I got near the port where I deposited my loot. a message pops out saying that all of my deposits have been lost.
And after reaching the moneylender it didn't even gave me an explanation where my money went!

WTF!? how the heck did that happen and is there a way to prevent this?

@ Vidar

There are several posts about the credit losses through NPC city raiding. However, I have never lost money in Panama so far. Furthermore, if depositing small amounts, say 1/2 million at a lot of different cities, the losses are much easier to handle. Food for thought, hope this helps.

Katana- med sword

Ahoy, I thought I would share this. In all nations play-through characters, I have managed to get the Katana very early on in the game through the Blue Bird quest. Ship needs to be bellow the BB class (5,6 and/or 7) and the weapon that the captain is fought with must be bellow his class (light). I have tested this with different ships and swords (even with a dagger) and he will drop the Katana about 25% of the time. No need to reload from the cave, the boarding save will do. Even if he is killed without the taking a break speech, he will still drop it. Hope this helps.

So the loot that I stole got stolen?! Argh! friggin' karma!

Anyways, I'm not sure if somebody else posted this yet but it seems that not assigning officers
in your crew (other than fighters) allows your skills associated with those vacant positions to level up faster.

I was too focused in filling up crew positions in my first playthrough that I didn't notice that.
Or is it because I changed the distribution of my stats and increased my talent to 10?
Is that the reason why my skills level up faster?

Here are a few real life tips I adhere to that are applicable to the game.

When you are in ship to ship combat, you should calculate every maneuver you make to gain or maintain the weather gauge. (the state of being upwind of your opponent) That way you can choose when to engage and board, while your opponent is not able to approach you. You should also keep your lower sails furled so that they are not damaged. Try to only use them when you need an extra burst of speed so that they don't get torn to shreds by stray shot aimed at your hull.
If you are in a storm I would recommend taking in sail and running downwind, or taking in all sail and "standing to." (not moving at all) That will minimize damage to your rigging until enough time passes so that you can return to the world map.

If you have a small (or larger) vessel and depend on speed for survival, don't be afraid to mount smaller guns than your vessel's maximum caliber. (four to twenty four pounders depending on the size of your vessel) Maintain a large crew and carry enough shot and powder to fire each gun twenty to thirty times. Only carry enough provisions to make it to your destination, allowing for delays caused by contrary winds, and a little bit extra in case you are being chased and have to run for an alternate destination. Carry as little cargo as possible, and don't carry any spare guns if you have a smaller vessel. Carry spare amounts of sail cloth and planking. The increase in your speed is very substantial if you follow these practices religiously, and you will usually be able to choose who to engage and who to run away from.

If you are sailing any vessel to windward, you should "beat to windward" instead of trying to sail strait into the eye of the wind. Sail as close to the wind as possible while still maintaining your speed and tack (turn through the wind) every so often. (This will result in you following a zigzag path)

I have the long musket but when I use it?
Thanks.
The Shootist skill, or Clever Shot.

Question:

I am level 46 and can use a battleship without penalty, but I only ever saw a larger vessel offered in Bermuda, and didn't buy it as I assumed I could get one there or elsewhere at that level any time. I can't, and Bermuda doesn't offer the lvl 2 vessel now. I have three other lvl 1 or 2 vessels got from bounty hunters and other mean people who want to hurt my character because he wants a share of other people's stuff. Do shipyards ever offer the bigger stuff, and under what conditions?

It should be the same key as you use for firing pistols.

You might need an ability e.g. shootist to use it - check the wepons description ( on the items screen ) text it should tell you there.

Well, i dont know if this have mentioned before, excuse me in case it is.

I found that i can asign a single officer in more than one position, i found an officer as good as tresurer than as doctor, and i was able to asign him in both positions, for the same salary! :p

No tested in other positions (until i found an officer good in more than one tasks), but using logic, i guess that i cant use a gunner as navigator at the same time... perhaps a carpenter and bosun works...

This is the best style to use even with crew helping out, although i tend to run around helping my crew elliminate the enemy so that i can take easy victories without loosing too many crew members. I'm interested to know upon what difficulty do you play and what kind of ships do you target because its not as easy to board a MOW using this tactic with crew helping you out so on your own is going to be near impossible in less you kill as many crew members as you can before boarding.

i dont use this on MOW for sure :D i am using MOW doing this :D and it depends on the mode :D might be easy might be hard :D

Hello, is it possible to wait some hours in GOF2?.i am in front of a French city gate (enemy) but it 10:00AM... How can I advance the time to midnight ?

It seems like it is not coded in age of Pirates 2 and it is coded in sea dogs 2.
So I change the debuger.c to add time with F4 and F5 key.
I can now wait 15minute or 1 hour for each key pressed.

What code did you add to debugger.c to accomplish this?
In the file :Age of Pirates 2\Program\Debuger.c
@line 12, replace the two functions ActiveF4Control and ActiveF5Control with
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
void ActiveF4Control()
{
AddTimeToCurrent(1,0)

Log_Info(GetStringTime(GetTime()));
}

void ActiveF5Control()
{
AddTimeToCurrent(0,15)

Log_Info(GetStringTime(GetTime()));
}
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
;)

Is there a way to avoid getting caught by the patrol when trading with the smugglers on the abandoned coasts?
