engine.ini ... syntax error

Jan Marten

I found a syntax error in the engine.ini

Affected
All games in the series, Sea Dog II, Caribbean Tales, City of Abandoned Ships, To Each His Own
If he eliminates, the games run better.

open them the engine.ini
seek
program_directory = program
put them behind
program_directory = program\
Save and finish

That could be the cause of the error in tool / Light Tool the change of files.
The same error is when Sailor tool. effects unknown

So it does not affect the actual game itself, but does affect the tools?

Pieter, Pieter what I need to hear :shock

they look in the directory and engine.ini

In computer science, a syntax error is an error in the syntax of a sequence of characters or tokens that is intended to be written in a particular programming language.

For compiled languages syntax errors occur strictly at compile-time. A program will not compile until all syntax errors are corrected. For interpreted languages, however, not all syntax errors can be reliably detected until run-time, and it is not necessarily simple to differentiate a syntax error from a semantic error; many don't try at all.

Because you refer to the "Light Tool" and "Sailor Tool", I assumed the problem affects those specific tools and not the games themselves.
After all, if the line that points to the "PROGRAM" folder is wrong, then how can the game run at all? :confused:

This is a programming error
but simply with far-reaching consequences
With simple words ... the connection between source code (.dll files) and the folder progam

... It can be exchanged only limited data ...if any

Episode ... crashes the game, all games

A very good question. I think, that has to do with the memory error.

@ Hylie
Yes, since crashes CoAS no more under Windows 10

Well, I just played for a few hours with no crashes but still got the long bad memory list in the system.log.

Does this affect PotC? If it does, can someone upload the latest and modified ENGINE.ini for PotC?

@DavyJack
Why so complicated.
the open with text editor the engine.ini .... put Backslash ... Save and finish :yes

And I'm testing it now with the TOOL and Light Tool

It is simple. This is my POTC engine.ini. You will be wanting to change the resolution for your laptop tho.

TOOL still works for me. What is Light Tool? Do I need it?

Further testing. I went to Havana and got low frame rates on the waterfront. Then went to Port Royale, which is the same waterfront, and got good frame rates. I remember getting the occasional random CTD on the Havana waterfront.

Then went to La Tortue where I get constant numerous CTDs and got no CTDs at all!!!!!

Havana in PotC has extra BuildingSet characters. I imagine when the location is loaded the first time, Levelling would cause some reduced framerates for a while.
But after you've been in Havana port a while, it should go to the same levels as in Port Royale.

What the hell is CDT.
Crash To Desktop (CTD)

Ok I understand.
that comes to my ... spanish ago

I at PotC a repair of all paths taken. Now running the original.:modding
I just wanted to what test.
However, windows 10 has reinstalled something.

Yes Crash To Desktop. So far it seems to be more stable. At la Tortue the difference is dramatic.

No, the frame rate stays low. Specifically when facing the sea. When facing land it comes up to normal levels.

They play the Mod. I only the original in German.
Tortuga is not a problem here. Just got here
The question is ... Why

I do not know the version

I note, the original PotC in German works under Windows 10.
The cause why there unstable or not running are syntax and path error .

Hmm... odd. :confused:

Anyway, if this seems to help and definitely doesn't break anything, I'll add it to my game too.
Then when next I make a huge new archive, I'll include this change. Hopefully it helps for other people too!
Thanks @Jan Marten. :cheers
