Included in Build Wind Direction and Storm Occurance in 3D Sailing Mode

Well, I started a new game with the latest installer today so it is pretty early, but it does seem to help. Not once have I been stuck so bad that I just furled the sails and just waited for the wind to change. Tacking is effective again!

So far I am happy with it.

So it may be a good idea to change the Build default value then?

I think the value may be in radians, which means 1 equals almost 60 degrees.
In one hour, that may indeed be quite a lot.

@Hylie Pistof and @imado552: Just so you know, I moved the related posts here to keep it gouped with the original discussion on the subject.

If this indeed helps, I'd really like to know as soon as possible and definitely before the Beta 4 public release.
I'd like to figure out all "default changes to InternalSettings.h" now if we can, because it is annoying to have to update that file.
Specifically for players, because if it is part of the "update files", then people lose their settings every time there is a new version. :facepalm

I put in many hours of play last night going from level 5 to level11 and this is most certainly an improvement! I have previously given up on the square sail ships because of the evil winds that completely destroy any immersion, but started this game with the Medium Pinnace, a big fat cargo ship.

So far tacking works and is not just "busy work" to keep the player occupied until the winds change. The winds are much more predictable and consistent now. They aren't completely defanged as they do try to push me into the rocks when close to an island but I can deal with that. Overall, Direct Sail is much better. :onya

Very cool! I'll make that change in the next update then as well.

Have you got any clue how many "maximum degrees per hour" wind change might be reasonable? Perhaps it should be reduced further.
On the other hand: If this seems OK, I'm quite happy to just stick to 0.5 and leave it at that. :cheeky

Might I assume that the wind DOES still change direction once in a while, but just slower than before?

Yes the wind does change directions but in small increments. This is what makes it work now as I can tack away from it without being forced to sail in the opposite direction that I want to go in.

This will take more testing but for now 0.5 is ok. I might want to reduce it more later just for testing. It kinda sorta depends if I keep finding meself getting pinned against islands by the winds.

Oh, because I had previously given up on square sail ships I changed the stats on the Fragata Latina to make her less rare. That is the most powerful lateen sail ship in the game and is the only warship that can keep up with the lateen sail ships like the Diligente tartane, Lyon Hoy, Polacca, and CastelF. They need an escort ship. Is it too late to include that change?

I swear. If you want to know what direction your objective is, just point straight into the wind. That's the heading you want. Sometimes I think the wind is laughing at me. Just kidding of course.

Of course the game has absolutely no way of knowing which wat you want to go.

People seemed to think in the past as well that the wind is being deliberately evil.
But it has to be observation bias.

Have to admit, I find the wind in this game pretty realistic. The coast of the Baltic Sea is only 4 kilometers away from my home and everytime you try to go somewhere the wind blows straight into your face. It's incredibly annoying, especially on your bicycle.
