Change Log:
Code:
Build 14 Beta 4:
- New Features:
. Specific Free Play Only storyline added by Levis, Pedrwyth, TechnicJelle, Andouce and Pieter Boelen
  > Contains various custom game starts linked to player background profession
  > Includes all sidequests available in the game
  > Possibility to choose from several pre-defined characters
  - Includes the Horatio Nelson, Jean de la Croix, Jean Lafitte and Jack Aubrey characters from previous modpack releases
  - There is at least one navy and one non-navy character available for each nationality
  > Possibility to change starting date
  > Many settings linked to character models as set up in initModels.c
  > Select Storyline Interface adapted as required
. Improved Nation Relations by Pieter Boelen
  > Relations Tutorial quest added at game start
  > Allow paying governors to make forts forget about you if this has become a problem
  > Player loyalty (Served Nation) impacts game functionality:
  - Loyalty is indicated in the Questbook Interface by the large yellow nation name
  - Random Relation Change code rewritten and fixed
  - Player relations will automatically follow random relation changes affecting his/her Served Nation (but not for Pirate and Personal loyalities)
  - Loyalty is set to your chosen nation at game start
  - Loyalties are updated on each promotion
  - Having multiple Letters of Marque (LoM) will set your loyalty to Personal
  - Large acts of piracy, repeated small acts of piracy and joining the pirates will set your loyalty to the Pirates
  - If your loyalty lies with the pirates, you may be recognized for this by citizens of non-pirate towns
  - When your loyalty lies with the pirates, the only way to undo this is to stop serving the pirates and get a single LoM
  > Relation Changes from player actions completely rewritten:
  - You gain point with a nation only if you have a LoM with them
  - Having multiple LoMs decreases the amount of points you get per nation, though you still get more in total by Grey Roger
  - You lose points with nations allied to the nation you attacked if you have no legal reason to do so or if you have multiple LoMs
  - You lose your LoM if you attack one of your nation's allies
  - Pirates are more forgiving of attacks against them than other nations are, but such an act will still lose you any positive points you had with them
  - You gain points with the pirates through acts of piracy; if you have gained enough points, your loyalties shift to the pirates
  - An unrespectable act is attacking without having a legal reason for it, which applies to ALL ships you sink/capture without having a LoM or navy commission
  - A major act of piracy is actively betraying a nation you were serving or one of their allies or attacking while under a still-friendly flag
  > False Flag detection rewrite
  - Upon loading the scene, correctly set the relations between ALL ships at sea; most other relation-changing code has been deleted
  - Allow changing flags during battle
  - Some towns are tolerant of pirates both at sea and ashore, such as Tortuga and in The Spanish Main also Port Royale
  - This affects the player if you are friendly to the pirates, flying a pirate flag and the town is tolerant of pirates
  - Reset the memory of specific nation forts when buying amnesty, a LoM or on each promotion
  - Call generic functionality for when firing on and hitting friendly ships at sea; skip turning nations hostile when doing this
  - Generic behaviour for firing on friendly ships, including betrayal
  - Flag and betrayal factored into relation change upon capturing/sinking a ship
  - Sinking surrendered ships gives you relation points
  - Custom ship log entry for sinking surrendered ships
. Skill and Ability System rewritten by Levis
  > Different officer types get rank and HP bonuses
  > Three new abilities
  > Explanation of officer types added when you first hire an officer; limited to the Landlubber and Mariner difficulty levels
  > All characters have an offictype assigned and will advance accordingly

The latest trailer has caught my eye and renewed my interest. I know I've said it before, but I wanna come back and get involved with this game again. But first, I think I'll play the game a bit first to reacquaint myself with everything and perhaps update that music pack that I'm sure doesn't even work anymore. Haha I do miss it here. It was fun. :)

@Jason: What file exactly? And which mirror?
And blocked by what program? Prior to download or after it completes?

I know the files themselves are perfectly safe; they're basically identical to the ones that were posted on this forum last week.

I do know ModDB uses Game front as one of their main mirrors and there are some programs that may not trust that.
But there are some extra mirrors of our own listed in the ModDB download description as well. ;)

What antivirus are you using and what are its settings? I am downloading both files now and am using AVG Free.

Pieter,
I have the main game b14_beta4_final.cab file I downloaded on 2 April - is this different from the one uploaded on the ModDB - I know that the game version is 31 march. The new installer updates this to 2 April now. I don't want to download the main file again if I don't have to.

If you downloaded the CAB on 2 April, then it is indeed identical.
The only difference is that the ModDB version is named ".tar" and the final EXE Installer also looks for a TAR file instead.

Long story short: Rename the ".cab" you already have to ".tar" and use the EXE Installer from ModDB.
You cannot do it wrong, because if your file is NOT the same, the Installer EXE will give you an error message.
I deliberately have a CRC check included, so the main archive you use MUST be the correct one. ;)

Can you please help me guys ?

Ive downloaded New horizons build 14 beta 4.0 upon starting the game i noticed that the ports in the world map aren't showing. it only shows the name of the island then you have to manually sail to the said port or just do a quick jump. but when you look at the world map you wouldnt know where is the port on that specific island because it doesn't show? any ideas how to fix this ?

That is deliberate in Realistic Game Mode. Ports show up after you visited them the first time or if you buy a map of the island.

You can disable that functionality by switching to Arcade Game Mode; you may have to start a new game for that to update correctly.

Thanks Pieter,
How do you get to see Vendekken now on Ille de Muelle. Blackbeard is now there on the shore and is immortal and wants to kill everyone- you can only go back to your ship now. Or have I gone to the wrong shore or this has changed and I missed it?

This was still the 31 March version - haven't got back to this point in the 2 April yet.

I haven't been to Ille de Muerta since before Blackbeard was put there so I'm not sure about this but methinks he is on one side and Vanderdecken is on the other side.

Thanks Hylie,
There is still only 2 shores on this island, right - I haven't missed a new one? The other shore is the one with the Aztec Chest in the Cavern - I went round the other side of the Island but found Blackbeard who proceeded to kills my officers and had to retreat to my ship - no idea on how to beat him and enable the exit at the top of the path to get to Vanderdecken???

Got to it in the 2 April Public Release - no problems getting to Vanderdeken now - will check for another shore just in case.

EDIT - Found a 3rd shore with Blackbeard - he killed all my officers and me before I could find a way back to my ship - not wise to go there.

EDIT 2- Tried it again - found all 3 shores - faced Blackbeard and killed him and got the sword of Triton :thumbs1

Even in arcade game mode it doesn't show. i dont know why ? ive started a new game as well.

Even if i zoom in it doesn't show. i dont know whats wrong. i already started in arcade game and it still shows up only when i manually dock in that port.

Huh. Not long ago it was accidentally set so that ports showed all the time even in realistic mode. Now they don't show in arcade mode? :bird:

Just tested this for Bonaire, Curacao, Cartagena and Grenada. Towns don't show up if you haven't been there, even with a map. They seem to show up after you open the map in your inventory (Curacao definitely did) and definitely show up after visiting them. Probably should test this some more but I would need a new game as all the islands are no visited in my current game.
B14 2 April Public release.

Blackbeard and Vanderdecken are on different shores. There are three of them:
1. Has access to the chest with the cursed treasure
2. Has the shipwreck where Vanderdecken "lives"
3. Has Blackbeard feeling particularly murderous

I can't remember their correct names by the top of my head, but they're definitely three separate beaches. :yes

The only reason you would want to beat him is so that you can loot his sword. That is actually the main reason why he's there.

Have you seen the "On Stranger Tides" film? That movie tells you what kills Blackbeard in the end.
Something similar is what works in our game as wel. :cheeky

Just to be clear here, are you referring to 3D Sailing Mode or the WorldMap? I was talking about 3D Sailing Mode.
On the WorldMap, any ports don't show until you visit them EVEN on Arcade Game Mode. It has always been like that, ever since the unmodded game.

That shouldn't matter much though, since you use the WorldMap to get to islands and 3D Sailing Mode to get to the ports.
You can find out what ports are on which island by:
1. Buying the island maps
2. Using the F2>Colonies Interface
3. Using the [M]-key / F2>Inventory>Maps>Archipelago Map screen and right-clicking on the various islands
