Discussion The Archipelago's Mysteries (Nathanial Hawk)

TommyM

Sovereign of Death
Storm Modder
Just started coding the part 2 in Nathanial's life story and these are my main ideas for the story.

Code:
-----------QUEST LOG-----------

-MAIN IDEA- Two years past since governer Silehard lost and was killed or sent to prison back in England.
-MAIN IDEA- Nathaniel spoke with Danielle and are determined to sail back to the Temple which they found the treasure to bit up the Black Pearl.
-MAIN IDEA- As we know the last scene we saw is the Black Pearl in the bottom of the ocean and her crew men survived the battle. (Still debatable)
-MAIN IDEA- Silehard's daughter is still alive and determined to usrupe the governer's title in Jamaica in order to hunt down Danielle and Nathaniel for killing her father.
-MAIN IDEA- Silehard's daughter (Need to find out her name -.-) kiddnaps Danielle and uses her as leverage to lure Nathaniel.

Interesting.

How does your idea with Arabella Silehard work with the existing sidequest related to her?
You might have helped her there, which makes it a bit unlikely she'd want to take revenge.

The crew of the Black Pearl definitely survived.
They have to, because this story takes place before the PotC Curse of the Black Pearl film.

What do Nathaniel and Danielle want to do at Cozumel?
(Honeymoon? :cheeky )

On that note, at the end of the main quest, you can choose of Danielle stays with you or goes her own way.

Returning to the temple is probably not a good idea. Last time we saw it, an angry bird-like deity had turned it into a lot of rocks flying off at high speed! If anything, the approach to the temple should now be locked so you can't go back in, though the rest of Cozumel has possibilities.

The end game video shows Black Pearl on the sea bottom. However, the game allows you to board and capture her. But the crew were undead skeletons so any which were thrown overboard after the battle might still be around, though they have a lot of underwater walking to do before they reach another island. Still, they might have made it to Cayman or even Jamaica in two years...

Silehard's daughter is named Arabella. It is true that you help her in the quest for Lucas da Saldanha. Revenge for your killing / imprisonment of her dad, ex-governor Silehard, could very well take precedence, regardless of whether she wants to replace Governor Brin. If you're going to have this as part of the story, perhaps have Lucas da Saldanha return as her associate. And if she's associated with a minor Spanish noble, perhaps have her involved in a Spanish plot to take over Jamaica which would put her in the governor's position on Spain's behalf - she certainly wouldn't be able to take over as an English governor from Brin, the legally appointed replacement.

I actually really like the idea of Arabella governing Jamica on Spain's behalf. So that way you will have two very powerful nations to deal with in the story. Her main goal will still be to capture and torture Nathanial and his girl. Determined enough to give up on Oxbay and her mines for Spain, to be ruled by another nation in order to obtain Jamica once again.

Nathanial may not be able to enter the temple ever again but Clement did mention that there are so many secrets which were written on the temple's main hall walls. Secrets about the island and explantion about that bird god thingy just before Danielle messed around with the ball of light, so they got that going for them.

The Black Pearl is indeed captured or lost but Hector and some of his crew may yet survived and looking for revenge upon Nathanial. If the ship was captured, then Hector and his crew may try to seize it back. If it was destroyed by battle then Hector will find his way back to Jamica for revenge. Or he may find some clues on how to bring the Pearl back from the depths with Nathanial's help (with the help of the bird god thingy maybe?).

For the recored, Arabella helped Nathaniel more than he helped her. Still, it is her father we are talking here, pretty sure she will feel anger towards the people who killed her father and brought her family's reputation to rockbottom.

You may chose indeed if Danielle stays with or both of you part ways but honestly can you resist such a beautiful and smart girl ;) . Still, getting her abducted will surely get Nathanial mad.

First of all, this is your story - I'm trying to give hints on how to make it consistent with the original, not to try to have a big influence on your plot. So feel free to disregard anything I may suggest! In that spirit, then...

There may very well have been many secrets written on the temple walls. The trouble is that the temple walls are now scattered all over the area. But maybe the same bird god which destroyed it has put it back together, giving Nathaniel and Clement a surprise when they go to investigate what they think will be ruins... Alternatively, it's possible to change reload links within your story code - you could have lines which redefine the link that currently points to the temple area to point at something else, e.g. a cave which then leads to catacombs. (Have a look at "PROGRAM\Storyline\Ardent\StartStoryline.c", where I altered a whole load of reload links to open up another temple, create an Indian village, and open a house in Port Royale.)

Hector Barbossa didn't appear in "Tales of a Sea Hawk". Though the stock game was titled "Pirates of the Caribbean", so as to tie in with the film franchise, it had next to nothing in common with the plots of the films other than including a ship named "Black Pearl" crewed by undead skeletons. Even the method of the ship's defeat had nothing to do with the film. So you can use Hector Barbossa, or make up your own skeleton chief. The latter has the advantage that you're not bound by anything in the films, you can do whatever you like with him, including decide for yourself how he can be defeated.

You're right about Arabella, though in effect both she and Nathaniel were helping Lucas da Saldanha. In any case, as you say, any feeling she has now towards Nathaniel is likely to be negative!

The romance between Nathaniel and Danielle was hinted at in the original storyline, so having him get upset if she's abducted is entirely consistent.

Well, her father DID bring it into himself by being a corrupt asshat.
But that could be some nice character for Arabella: To have her start mad and eventually you MAY be able to convince her that you were not to blame for her father's actions.

You may chose indeed if Danielle stays with or both of you part ways but honestly can you resist such a beautiful and smart girl ;) . Still, getting her abducted will surely get Nathanial mad.
I imagine if she's with you, she'll disappear. If she's not with you, someone else can tell you about it.
It could work both ways. :yes

Actually, in the mod Barbossa DOES appear. He's one of the pirates who confronts you during the story and if you capture the Pearl, you'll have to deal with her captain, which is also Barbossa.

Was thinking about this project for sometime now but couldn't do anything about it since I have to serve in the army for three years. Luckly I'm almost done with it an will have much..much more time to spend on it (PoTC is love... :) ).

I will start with the quest writting right away and focus on how it all starts, what happened in the time being and see how things move from there.

Excellent! I look forward to seeing how this develops.

Incidentally, unless you want to design a new model for evil Arabella, the "Brinkley" model is a modified version of the stock "towngirl1" model used by normal Arabella. You could use that to make her a bit more distinctive if she's to be a major player in this story.

Good idea. That model is currently only used in the Jack Sparrow storyline, where Arabella's sidequest has been replaced with Justine le Moigne anyway. :cheeky

There could be an option at the very start of the game where you and Danielle talk about the future to come and decide to continue the journy together or part ways, whatever the answer will be you then fast forward two years into the future with or without Danielle by your side (although it is very tricky to do so I assume).

That question is already in the game. You get the choice on whether you want Danielle to stay with you (as an officer) or to part ways.

Yes, but this will be a similar question at the start of the new storyline, I presume. ;)

The problem then becomes that the storyline diverges down two tracks - Danielle is with you or she's off by herself. Any part of the plot which mentions Danielle is going to have to take account of this. And unless you make Danielle a permanent companion by using 'SetCharacterRemovable(characterFromID("Danielle"), false);', there's also the question of whether she's an active officer in the shore party or a passive officer in the "Passengers" list.

How do you plan to have Arabella abduct her if she's stuck on the ship? How do you plan to have Arabella abduct her if she's a permanent companion and never out of your sight? If she's not a permanent companion because you allow the player to assign or de-assign her, the abduction is going to have to take account of the possibilities that she may or may not be actively with the player at the time. (I have a few ideas here because I'm planning something similar in my own storyline, but it's not the bit I'm currently working on. Still, if you get stuck, I can say what I'm planning - or, for that matter, if I get stuck, I may borrow your ideas. :D)

You're presumably going to want to have Nathaniel and Danielle get back together anyway, regardless of whether the player chose to separate at the beginning, so they can go and explore Cozumel together. If that happens before the abduction then it simplifies the abduction as you know they're together at that point.

If the storyline extension starts AT the time of the abduction, then you just need to customize the beginning to take into account Danielle's status at that point.
If she's a companion, then she vanishes and probably so does her ship. Same if she's an officer.
If she isn't with you at all, then some character tells you she was abducted. Then after the initial abduction, what happens next can be the same.

Well, that's some great news - a continuation of Nathaniel (not Nathanial) and Danielle's story. I always wanted someone talented to continue Tales of a Sea Hawk or finish the Danielle storyline abandoned by developers. Keep up the great work @TommyM
and I wish you much good luck. :thumbs1
BTW, I don't know if you've played Sea Dogs: To Each His Own, which is the 5th game in the series (POTC is the 2nd), because in that game story of Nathaniel and Danielle is somewhat concluded (after over 20 years since end of POTC).

Really? What happens? :woot

So they haven't gone seperate ways after all :D. @fjx talented is a strong word to describe my PoTC expirence, but I love the game and Build Mod so much that I'm willing to give it a shot.
Presumably that storyline is based on the ending of the stock game in which the Black Pearl is sunk (you couldn't capture it and continue the game), while Nathaniel and Danielle sail off into the sunset. The Build Mod has already departed from that, allowing you to capture the Black Pearl, sail to Port Royale (not Redmond any more!), be forgiven by a replacement governor, and then decide whether to stay together. And if you're going to follow the plot of "Sea Dogs: To Each His Own" then you may as well give up your own storyline and just get the new game. xD

Alternatively, this is "Pirates of the Caribbean: New Horizons", a different game, so ignore what any other follow-up may have done and go ahead with your storyline! You'll probably run into problems, and as you've seen, you're not short of help if you do. Writing your own storyline is not for the faint-hearted but it can be a lot of fun. Go for it! :thumbs1

ATTENTION SPOILERS AHEAD!

Well, telling the whole story would be too time consuming so I'll just say that protagonist character saves Nathaniel from near-death state, helps get his ship back, reunite with Danielle and take back the authority over pirate town on Jamaica by killing his enemy. Nathaniel and Danielle are major part of "Return of the Baron" quest which is the 5th of 13 long main story quests. And "The Caleuche" DLC is about getting to Khael Roa and ending what Hawk began by defeating ghost ship once and for all. The bad thing is, POTC was developed by Akella and SDTEHO by BlackMark Studio, so there are some crucial differences regarding the matter of POTC final stage:
- Khael Roa (renamed Cozumel in New Horizons) was part of fictional archipelago in POTC, in TEHO it can be found between St. Kitts, St. Martin and Antigua
- In POTC there was an Inca temple, TEHO makes it temple of the Chavins tribe
- Temple was destroyed in POTC and in TEHO it stands in pre-catastrophy state
- In TEHO it's revealed that artefact used by Nathaniel and Danielle to defeat ghost ship was called Orb of the Rising Sun
- The two characters are referred to as Nathan and Dannie in almost every dialog about them
- And the best one: Nathaniel in near-death state tells the story of his life and claims to have sunk "Flying Dutchman" captained by Vanderdecken, in DLC it turns out it was "Flying Heart" aka "Caleuche" captained by Baltasar de Cordes
You can imagine I was mortified after playing it for the first time. So my advice to @TommyM is simply to write his own version. I know what I wrote here is hard to believe but if you play the game for yourself, you'll see I was telling the truth.
@Pieter Boelen I hope this clarifies things at least a bit for you.
