I'm interested at this game.

Ahoy mateys,

when I have read about Heart of Oak, I started to think that, maybe, my dream was coming true.

Let I explain my point of vieew: one thing that I loved do in most pirate games, was the simple commerce and smuggling isle-to-isle, or mainland-to-isle, and this was a dream for me, navigating for days and days, eventually triybg to distance or avoid HMS vessels, and sell my more-or-less legal merchandises in the black market or at some merchant that not ask much about where I have taken my cargo :D

the mercantile matter is usually ignored in pirate games, or reduced to "board merchants ship-sell the loot in a friendly port" no more than this.

And if my sloop hasnt a Jolly Roger on the main mast, but a normal national flag, or a false flag, and has only some guns for protect himself, becuase it's not made for war, but for smuggling?

I remember what I did in "Sid Meyer Pirates!" game: usually take a base in a little town, and sail here and there, acquiring cargo at low and sell at high in other ports.

Hope this part of the sea life will be put in the game: not every sea captain has a lion-heart or a black soul, and not every sea captain want become a pirate, or corsair, but simply sailing and make his own deals.

You can do all that in POTC. Be a peaceful merchant or a smuggler, if you want to be such
persons, you have all the options in POTC. In realistic mode you can navigate for days and
sail between the islands, only using the compass and the sextant.

We added some extra Merchant gameplay to PotC quite recently.
So far nobody really gave any feedback on that part though.
You should definitely try it out! :woot

All though we can do all of this in PotC: New Horizon - I think it is also very important to answer the man's actual question

And yes, these features are what we aim for with HoO.

Basically HoO will try to be a modern and graphically better looking version of what the community has done with modding the original Akella "Age of Pirates games" -PotC and CoAS. Those mods are called; For PotC - Build Mod and New Horizons (same Mod just two names for it), And for CoAS - Gentlemen of Fortune.

But HoO is early in development still, and there are still many things that needs to be in place in the vase game before such things can be added.

But playing for example New Horizons mod will give you a good idea of what we are aiming for. And allot of the work that already has been done in New Horizon will make the foundation of the work that will be - is being laid down for HoO.

Very interesting!

Well, how I can do for have POTC? Hope I can acquire this game somewhere.

And, please, another ask:

I have had a bad feeling with the pre-built characters. There's some chance in POTC for choice an image, and put a own choosing name, more or less like RPG's?
I prefer have a my own name than bear those of some other.

Check your PMs. You were added to one named "PotC Build Mod" ages ago.

Especially now with the Build 14 Beta 4 update, you have quite a lot of customization options.
You can choose a storyline, character model, ship and rename your character and ship too.
There are also different professions, time periods, difficulty levels, etc.

The only thing PotC doesn't have is the ability to further customize your chosen player model.
But I think Hearts of Oak might rectify that! :cheers

Ahoy!

Last week I found on IndieDB your marvelous project of Hearts of Oak, and I started play-testing your demos (1.8 and 1.9). Then, I realised that you are not releasing something from March. It's all ok? Your work is going on? Please, tell us something.

Thanks.

As far as I can tell, things are fairly quiet now, but I'm sure there is still all sorts of stuff happening behind the scenes.
@Armada would be able to say more. :doff

Apologies for the lack of news on IndieDB. We have been releasing and testing additional internal builds in recent months, so work is ongoing even though we haven't posted much about it.
We're hoping to have another build ready for public testing some time soon, but I can't give you a release window yet. We will post another article on IndieDB once it's ready.

And of course - You will have to expect slower progression during summer.
All though in many ways, the gaming communities thrives in the summer as people - mainly students - are on vacation and have more time to game, - many of our members here are vell established grown ups with family and kids, so summer get slower as many of us (me included) are busy with family life and vacation ;)

However most of us are still active on the forums :)

Glad to know that, @Armada. And, of course, @Flannery, I can obviously understand!

Thank you for the replies. Regarding Hearts of Oak, are you still interested in some bug reports (on somewhat "old" stuff, as I said I'm trying Pre-Alfa 1.8 and 1.9)?

If you want to become a QA Tester, you can gain access to the internal builds and help us test those out.
