Included in Build [4.1] Rys Bloom Dialog Suggests Sidequest (that doesn't exist!)

Javrimir

Powder Monkey
I have a question: couldnt find anything similar. It's about Rys Bloom, he offers something, when you talk with the harbour master, but nothing happens when you hire him. Is there anything planned?

There is nothing. He's just a cheap officer you can get in the early game.

But then the dialogue makes not really sense, because he says something about someone who can offer something. Something like that, cant remember exactly what he says.

That's probably stock game code referring to a quest that was never finished. :facepalm

Rys Bloom said:
Well, captain, if you can help me I promise that I won't forget it.
I do have something to offer though.
Hey, no, captain. You're going to help me and I'll return the favor, that's how I am!
One possible return favour is to offer you various pieces of advice. Or, of course, he can join you as an officer.

And, of course, if you help him then he won't forget it because his dialog will be different afterwards, even if you don't hire him. xD

Rys Bloom said:
Oh. So, your generosity has a price when it comes to your fellow man, captain. I do have something to offer though. ... I know someone who'll pay very good money to anyone who can spare him certain chores. ...If you help me I'll introduce you to him. He trusts me and I'm sure you'll suit him perfectly.

Either we're playin different games or Rys Bloom is schizophrenic or something like that.

Hmm... I wonder if this was supposed to tie in with the shipyard at St. Pierre, Martinique? One of the things you can say to him is "I'm looking to earn some money. Maybe you can help me find a job?" and that doesn't lead anywhere either. My guess is that Rys Bloom was supposed to get involved here.

I think he still uses his stock game textures, no?

I have a very vague recollection that he might be referring to the sailor guy in Puerto Rico who is involved in a sidequest or two.
Can't remember his name. Also, I don't remember if this is actually the case or I'm just making things up by accident.

Rys Bloom uses a standard model, "Chameleon". Elsewhere in Port Royale you'll find Marc Blacque in exactly the same outfit. Rys Bloom has been there since the stock game.

The only sidequest sailor I know in San Juan is Zaid Murro. He's the follow-up to the Vigila Mendes sidequest.

Rhys Bloom says :-

"I know someone who'll pay very good money to anyone who can spare him certain chores. \nIf you help me I'll introduce you to him. He trusts me and I'm sure you'll suit him perfectly.",

Perhaps he is talking about Mateus Santos - and this was supposed to be an alternative way of starting "Hard Labors of an Assassin" :shrug

:drunk

I wonder if there is any clue in his dialog code for what that is meant to be linked to.

If not, maybe that text could just be removed. If it isn't there, it can't be confusing. ;)

One of the things you can say to Jean Filaut, shipyard owner of St. Pierre, is "I'm looking to earn some money. Maybe you can help me find a job?" This would seem to tie in with Rys Bloom's offer to introduce you to "someone who'll pay very good money to anyone who can spare him certain chores". The dialog link associated with your line to Jean Filaut, "I'm looking to earn some money. Maybe you can help me find a job?" leads to dialog case "quest", which you'd expect to include a quest but which at present only leads to him saying "No, I'm sorry. I don't have any work for you right now."

The quick, dirty way to resolve this would be to have Jean Filaut check to see if Rys Bloom is with you, and if so, let you do a bit of carpentry. Fast forward a few days, gain some cash and some Repair XP. Otherwise, whoever wants to write a full sidequest for this can do whatever they like. :D

I think we have these options, in order of complexity:
1. Do nothing
2. Remove all text referring to stuff that was never created
3. Do as @Grey Roger suggests above
4. Create a full sidequest

I'm fine with pretty much any of the above. #3 sounds quite nice, but I won't be the one to do that. :wp

Option 1 has the advantage of leaving option 4 open for anyone who wants to do it later. It's been like this pretty well since day 1 and hasn't been a major problem, so it's not exactly urgent. xD

Option 4! I have an idea: Bloom knows personally one of the loansharks. This guy needs help to collect the depts from some defaulters.

After this side quest you will activate the general quest for all loansharks in which you have to sail to random colonies for amassing arrears.
Most of the defaulters will give you the money, but some will show resistance, so you need to kill them.

Well, i can write a side quest story. Give me one week or even less.
But I have no idea of coding/moding.
I tried ones to make a Crusader Kings 2 mod, but it's to much work for only one person. I merely painted the map of the provincies and made some lists of the characters (the easy parts of the whole thing).
