Spoiler Intel Compatibility: Possible Solution

codeine

Landlubber
yesterday decided to replay PotC and tried a lot of fixes to run it on win8 x64:
- swiftshader 2.0 provides no crashes , perfect sea graphics and 2 fps
- fixed sea.dll and battle_interface with bugged sea graphics
- deleting bump.zap and "chess grid" sea

accidentally, bumped into "dgVoodoo". (http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2_53.zip)

- copied d3d8.dll and dgVoodooSetup.exe from zip-archive to the game folder
- ran dgVoodooSetup.exe
- clicked '.\' button to automatically set up game folder path
- in 'directx' tab set 'videocard' option to 'Geforce 4800 Ti'

i want someone to test this solution cause it can be the best one

ok, then i had to mention that i have a laptop intel integrated graphics + geforce 840m and it was a struggle to make it work. forcing system to use geforce vcard didn't work. swiftshader resulted in extremely low fps performance. intel fixes result in corrupted water surface graphics. my solution worked almost perfectly with fixed battle_interface.dll (rarely the game crashes).

Indeed I've heard a lot of people having difficulty with that too. Very annoying. :(

swiftshader resulted in extremely low fps performance.
It would do, yes. :facepalm

intel fixes result in corrupted water surface graphics.
It's not really "corrupted" water surface graphics. The "Intel Fix" disables the "bump map layer", which seemed to be the source of the game crashing.
If you use a Build 14 version, then we added some extra code to make the water colour look a bit better with that disabled.
Still admittedly less than ideal, but it was either that or the game not running at all. :facepalm

my solution worked almost perfectly with fixed battle_interface.dll (rarely the game crashes).
That does sound quite interesting! I wonder if @Armada might be able to give that a try; I think he was affected by the Intel issue as well.

Mate, If your solution is working, could you repeat what did you do step by step? Without water shader PotC looks very poor(

Goddamned... It's working! It's mothf...working! It's awesome, dude! Where you'we been all these years!?
I tested it and I recommend this decision as the best one!
Acer W700, I5, Intel HD Graphics 4000, Win 10 x64!

God bless you, Codeine!

That's great news, @Aleksei_90! Thanks for the confirmation. :woot

You and @codeine are the only people who have used this so far, as far I know.
Is this something we can easily add to an Installer, you think?

I think, YES, my friend!
But, there are many graphic options and I spend hours until I make it fast and smooth. If you need, I can post several screens of my PC specs, gameplay and options that I've made in VOODOO for my Intel HD graphics 4000?

Sounds interesting!

Are those settings saved in a configuration file in the main game folder? Or does it work differently?
If it is a specific file, then that might be included in a modpack installer.
Otherwise we would just need to make a clear step-by-step instruction in this thread for people who aren't pleased with the Intel Fix we've got.

sorry for disappearance. found e-mail notifications in the spam folder. glad it helped smn. this is kind of jackpot, just saw a stream, where a guy played old pc game that i failed to run on win8 and he said that it was voodoo tweaker mentioned above. months later i've remembered this tool desperately trying to run this game. honestly, i've completed the game in a week and already uninstalled and forgot about it. as far as i remember, voodoo tool settings saved in the same folder where voodoo exe file is.

talking about voodoo config, Aleksei_90 seemed to struggle to run it appropriately, so some more tests needed on different hardware, i guess.

i think, steps in the head post are clear enough since Aleksei_90 has made it.

the only thing i dont remember is whether battle_interface needed or not. there is a chance that it helps to reduce number of crashes (they still would happen ocassionally) and doesn't affect water surface.

i've checked voodoo tool only to check settings issue and it saves in the same folder as the tool. but the file is encrypted (couldn't open with a text editor)

Did you install our modpack? If not, you may want to consider it.
I can guarantee you will NOT finish all the content in the modpack within a week!
Or a month. Too many new storylines and sidequests, as well as nearly infinite Free Play potential. :cheeky

Sorry for being absent - had no time for games. Yes, the only configuration file is dgVoodoo.conf and it's placed in PotC game folder. It's working in the same way as SwiftShader but more smoothly. Yep, I configured it as well as I could so you can add it to your mod installation package! I've attached mine dgVoodoo.conf file to this message.

You need step-by-step instruction?

Here it is:
1. download dgVoodoo2_PotC_config.zip
2. unpack it to the PotC game folder
(not compatible with ENB, Swiftshader and others because you have to replace d3d8.dll)
3. launch the game and play

That's all.

Quality:
If quality isn't good enough just check your game configs for the best smoothness and quality.
1. if you want to change anything in dgVoodoo just download (http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2_53.zip),
2. unpack dgVoodooSetup.exe from zip-archive to the game folder
3. run dgVoodooSetup.exe
4. click '.\' button to automatically set up game folder path and change settings as you want.

!!!IMPORTANT!!!
Don't use win8/win10 compatibility utility or game will crash.

p.s. I did't use modified battle_interface - checked on vanilla PotC without any mods except dgVoodoo.

Win 10 x64, 4G RAM, Core I5 /w Intel HD Graphics 4000

Thank You m8!!!!!!!

I had the same problem as everyone with Windows 10, and AMD Card and a Intel one, the game for some reason started with the Intel One making the game crash every time i start a new game.

After this i managed to play the game.

This need to be pinned or send to FAQ Mods!!
