Santísima Trinidad (Spanish Navy Ship)

Alexar

Powder Monkey
I don't know if this boat is already included but if not, could be a great idea.

This was the most huge and powerful first-line ship of the line in the world. From my ponint of view this reason is enough merit to stay in this mod.

Someone once started on her, but never finished.
We haven't had any active modelers for PotC around in a few years.

We do have some very large ships of the line included in the mod,
including some in that paint scheme for Spain.

As there were no photos of the Santisima Trinidad, we can only go by paintings, which show her in various colour schemes, among them the red hull version seen in @Alexar's avatar picture. Other Spanish ships in the Napoleonic era in PoTC also use the red hull colour scheme, which may or may not be authentic but does make them distinct from the cream scheme of the British ships. Alternatively, since British ships now use a lighter shade of cream, we could maybe use the original darker shade for Spanish ships.

As for the Santisima Trinidad, unless someone were to put in the work to create a ship with four full gun decks, it's probably not going to happen. The best we could manage would be to start with the "RN_FirstRate" or "FR_FirstRate", for which there is currently no Spanish equivalent, and retexture it. As originally built, Santisima Trinidad did not have the full fourth gun deck - that was created in 1795 when the forecastle and quarterdeck were joined to form that deck. But the guns on that upper deck (and on the forecastle and quarterdeck before they were joined) were only 8 pounders, so the fact that the model would not have the full original 112 guns is not that much of a problem.

If extra guns were added to "FR_FirstRate" to make it a better representation of the Océan class, which had 100 guns total on its main three gundecks, then that, with a Spanish retexture, would make a reasonable representation of Santisima Trinidad as originally built.

Hey, where'd the red hull go?!? Was I imagining things? o_O

With some TOOL-work, I reckon that should be possible. Assuming there is space on the deck to place some additional cannons.
@Jack Rackham is familiar with adding extra bits and pieces like that.

I quite like the red hull mysels, but feel free to change what you want.
We can keep the original ones as part of the optional "replacement paint schemes" that can be installed.

I like the red hulls too, which is why I added some of them. :D Brighter orange-red for French, darker red for Spanish, partly because there were already some Spanish ships with dark red and partly because during one of the "Hornblower" TV films, you see a Spanish warship with a dark red hull. (It's the bit where Hornblower is about to be captured, and it's used as one of the videos in the game. RESOURCE\VIDEOS\Hornblower\Le Reve Capture.wmv) But there was a comment on the forum somewhere that most Spanish ships used a cream colour scheme, and that Santisima Trinidad had the red scheme to make it distinct, hence my line above about "may or may not be authentic". ;) Personally I'd be happy to leave them dark red, partly to keep them distinctive and partly because otherwise I have to go through the whole lot retexturing them again, which I'd rather not do...

But I wouldn't mind making a Spanish version of "FR_SotL" or "RN_SotL". Which means, @Alexar, I could do with a high resolution picture of the stern of the Santisima Trinidad. If you can find one, I can try to put it on the back of the ship, then change the hull colour to match other Spanish ships, and that's as close as it's going to get unless someone changes the actual model.

I remember that very well! :cheeky

Would be cool for sure! :woot

Yes I can try help with cannons and stuff. Not at the moment as I'm busy with Barbossa blue outfit and
cutting wood.

Brilliant! Both the offer to help AND hearing you're working on Barbsosa. :woot

I don't think anyone is asking or expecting you to do it "yesterday" anyway. ;)

Of course but give me some time to find a good picture of the stern :doff, however will be difficult to find it because there are paintings or sketches only.

That "replica" is actually a modern merchant ship with a wooden cladding and some masts to make it look like a sailing ship. It still has its engine.

I've found some nice photos of someone's model of the Santisimo Trinidad, unfortunately not high enough resolution to be much use as replacement stern art for a PoTC model. If nobody can find anything better, I'll see what I can do with that merchant ship's stern.

"Yep", that is true except that it hasn't got engine.

I'll continue looking up something better but please upload your pictures to discard those.

From Wikipedia:
A full-size representation of the Santísima Trinidad can be seen and visited in the harbour of Alicante, in Spain. In 2006 a merchant ship was fitted to mimic the appearance of the Santísima Trinidad, therefore not being a true replica. The conversion was begun in Galicia, where the original steel hull was given a first coating of fake wood strakes and erection of the masts. Stern galleries, the deck furniture and the rigging were made in Algeciras. Finally the boat was towed to be moored in the port of Malaga, where she was used as a floating restaurant, nightclub and showroom. The original engine was retained, and the boat is able to cruise around the vicinity of Malaga for recreation purposes.
That is the ship shown in the photos linked by @ANSEL.

These are some of the results from a Google Image search for "Santisima Trinidad ship stern":
ST stern photo naval museum.jpg stern_top_art.jpg stern36.jpg
Other results show the same ship as @ANSEL, or pictures of very nice models of the ship which don't show the stern all that well.

In the Wikipedia's english version say: "was towed to be moored in the port of Malaga". Sounds strange if the representation has got his engine, don't you think?
On the other hand the Wikipedia's spanish version don't say anything about the engine, furthermore I found an spanish online newspaper speaking about why was retired of Alicante's port and in one of their lines say this:

El Puerto descarta que el barco (no tiene motores) pueda hundirse durante su traslado.
El Puerto de Alicante «despide» a la réplica del Santísima Trinidad

In short, I am not sure but as far as I 'm concerned It hasn't got engine.

About pictures, I have got the same photos than you and this:

I have found the first of your photos and I think that is perfect because is the original mockup used like a help to make Santísima Trinidad.

EDIT: The final result Santísima Trinidad's stern is totally different I think but we can use that.

Hello, I just saw this, and since I have been doing almost nothing since I joined this forum I though I may be able to help here.
Here is a spanish website with information and data about the Santisima Trinidad, if you can read it:
Historia del navío de línea Santísima Trinidad
But the good part is after all the text and data. Right dows thoose, on the left side there are a couple of pictures, including some modern plans, here the is the best one in my opinion:

Thank you very much @MLMjp but @Grey Roger only need a photo from stern of Santísima Trinidad at the moment.

Would be a very good photo to make a exclusive moldel to this ship but no modeler can help us in this moment.

Here's what I've managed so far. I can't create a new ship model, so this is nothing more than the model for "RN_FirstRate" or "FR_FirstRate" with a Spanish dark red colour scheme, and with new stern art made from a combination of the Alicante ship and the model shown in one of the photos I posted.
sp_firstrate_front.jpg sp_firstrate_stern.jpg

That will have to do unless someone creates a version of "FR_FirstRate" with more guns, which could represent both the Santisima Trinidad before her quarterdeck was extended to become a full fourth gun deck, and the French Océan class, both of which had more cannons than the 104 currently assigned to all "XX_FirstRate" models. In particular, Santisima Trinidad should have four stern cannons, and probably so should the Océan.
