Davy Jones' talking head

Cutler Beckett burns the Wicked Wench and orders you onto his ship. After a storm, you meet Davy Jones, who has no talking head.

The reason is in case "storm_complete":
Code:
           if(GetAttribute(pchar, "Davy") == "helped")
           {
               Characters[GetCharacterIndex("Davy Jones")].model = "9JC";
               Characters[GetCharacterIndex("Davy Jones")].headmodel = "h_9JC";
           }
           else
           {
               SetNextWeather("Super Fog"); // PB
               Characters[GetCharacterIndex("Davy Jones")].headmodel = ""; // PB
           }
@Pieter Boelen: is there a reason why Davy Jones is set to have no head model? Apart from making him faceless, it produces this error in "system.log":
Code:
resource\models\Heads\.gm: can't open geometry file
Cannot open animation file resource\animation\Heads\.ani
Granted, the scene is super foggy so you can't see Jones himself, but Sparrow - er, Captain Sparrow - is standing right in front of him. So you on behalf of the Captain should perhaps be able to see Davy Jones' talking head face even if you as the player can't see the rest of him.

is there a reason why Davy Jones is set to have no head model?
Yes, there is!

Our (read: my) thinking at the time was that Jack almost drowned and, being Jack. is probably half-drunk too.
So he doesn't quite have his wits about him and doesn't notice that Davy Jones looks as insane as he does.
That makes it more believable to me that Jack would agree to Davy's terms, because at that point in the storyline, he hasn't really seen anything yet to suggest that the supernatural is real.

This is also the reason I added that "Super Fog" weather. The scene is supposed to be as surreal/dreamlike as possible.
So that after the deal, Jack can end up wondering if it was even real at all.
That also explains why he wasn't fussed about his own debt during the first film, but only in the second one.

Fair enough, I'll leave it alone.

Though my impression, from the storyline more than the films, is that Jack isn't fussed about obligations to anyone, supernatural or otherwise, until they catch up with him. He's quite happy to take the Wicked Wench regardless of any agreement he may have had with Cutler Beckett, right up until the moment Beckett catches up with him. His thought on Davy Jones' deal is that he has 13 years to figure out how to get out of it. The second film is presumably 13 years later, he hasn't managed to get out of the deal, and Jones has caught up with him.

I think, to some extent, that is definitely true also in the films.

This change to the scene came about mainly due to massive brainstorming we did back in the days:
Pirates 4 Script
Of course that is not officially canonical, but I don't care. It makes a whole lot more sense than the REAL canon! :rofl

Let that be a lesson - don't assume everyone spells the same way the Dutch do. :p
I was younger then and thought she was supposed to be Dutch since the name sounded quite Dutch. ;)

I'm going to guess that Anamaria is Portuguese because "Ana" is perfectly valid there. In fact, there's a real Ana-Maria where I work. She doesn't look anything like the film character, and anyway photographing someone at work to use the picture in a game would probably not be a good idea. xD
:rofl :rofl :rofl

Elizabeth Swann in trousers and tricorn hat is already done. She's no use for the "Hoist the Colours" storyline. [...] But trousered Elizabeth is available as a free-play character and you'll also see her if you do the "Silver Train" sidequest.
Now you mention it, yes of COURSE you already did that! Damn my memory. :whipa

I already considered that, tried to figure out where to change Miss Swann from dress to pirate outfit, and concluded that there isn't anywhere appropriate - she's still in a dress when she's in the cave on Isla de Muerte, which means she'd be in a dress after being marooned with Jack Sparrow, and she's certainly in a dress for the trial scene.
Maybe the blood red dress that Barbossa gave her would be more appropriate....

Incidentally, in English English, as opposed to American English, "pants" isn't trousers. It's one level down, so to speak. Elizabeth Swann in pants may be an interesting project but is not relevant to the storyline. :D
:rofl :razz :rofl

Costumes for Jocard and Ammand are beyond my ability, especially the hats.
I wonder if @Jack Rackham would be willing to provide some support there again...? :rolleyes:

Most of the others have too little time in the game to be worth much effort.
Indeed they don't see so much use.
Though having Jack's crew around (they could be walking around on deck too!), would certainly add a lot of flavour.

And Mr. Mercer should have some significance. But he doesn't, really.

Anyway, this is all optional. It hasn't been done in years, so we'll survive without them just fine.
