Solved Fix for Intel Graphics Card problems (Laptop NVidia users)

Yes I check CoAS and it too refuses to use the Nvida card but it runs without problem with the intel integrated card. No patch, water reflections are beautiful. Also the CoAS config has the Device option grayed out. Don't know how to correct that.

Please tell me I'm wrong. But I now believe in either PoTC or CoAS the config doesn't recognize the selectable graphics cards. Therefore it defaults to the Primary Display Driver. So even though everything looks and plays fine in CoAS I'm still not using my most capable card. If anyone is running PoTC by selecting their card in config please let me know. Maybe there is a setting I need to change on my laptop.

I've only ever seen that option greyed out and I have absolutely no clue if it works or not.

As far as I can tell, from what I have found, the problem lies either in Intel's integrated graphics driver, or Microsoft's crappy code. For some reason, because POTC is an older game and uses DX 8, it automatically chooses Intel over Nvidia, even if you tell it to use Nvidia. POTC is not the only game that has this problem, there are many.

The only real solution that I have found is to make sure the laptop that you buy has a hardware graphics card switch.

Hi!! I have a mac (I know very bad...) but i have basically put windows 7 on it also!! I tried installing the original game onto the windows part of it and it did not work! I got all the applications suggested but still didn't like it! Do you have any ideas?

I vaguely remember someone got the game working on an Apple Mac (or was it Linux?), but I didn't understand how.
You'd have to search the forum to see if you can find the relevant thread.

I am trying to install and run bld14 on a Lenovo (Thinkpad) T61, Vista Pro OS. The install goes fine, but when I try to play I keep getting error messages about the device is not compatible. At first I was getting a duplicate Radeon 850 error. A search turned up two Radeon sea files. I deleted one and that message went away, but I still get the error message about incompatible device.

When I install on any Win7 OS the game runs without this issue.

Any idea?

Since you are using an AMD video device this sounds like a driver incompatibility issue. Install Win7?

Finally got the game to work on my laptop after a couple hours of trying to figure out why it refused to use my Nvidia GPU instead of the Intel one. I thought I'd share my solution here, since I wasn't able to find anyone talking about it anywhere else: The issue is that Nvidia Optimus doesn't understand DirectX 8 or earlier, and will always use your default driver, which will always be the Intel one, even if you change the setting through the Nvidia control panel. What you have to do is use a DirectX 8 to 10-11 wrapper. I used dgVoodoo 2, and it's worked great.
