Posting this hastily on my lunch - it was in my bookmarks and I cant remember where i found it, so sorry if

a) i found it here
b) i've already posted it here

a cool webmap of ships logs converted into digital info showing ships traffic from 1750 approx to end of Nap wars, routes, weather encounters. really neat. for multiple nations!

Wooden Ships

That's really cool! It's interesting to follow certain ships and see additional log entries along their routes. It's a clever way of representing these small snapshots of history. :keith

Very interesting! I will enjoy to look into this little treasure chest.
Thanks for the tip :bow

Sounds cool, @con20or!
But I'm a bit lost... How does that site work...? :unsure
The site is a bit sluggish, so it's hard to navigate smoothly, but it you click outside of the welcome notification area, you can click and drag to pan across the map and zoom with the mouse wheel.
Double-clicking one of the hexagons tells you about the logs relevant to that area. You can filter what you see with the options on the left of the screen.

Hexagons? Don't remember seeing those.
Will have to try it again some time...

Yes hexagons - you will come to hate them as I have not found how to turn them off and end up with trails of them all over the map....

- Pick a nation you are interested in on left menu national flag icon (but if you pick Spanish for example, expect only logs from Spanish ships written in Spanish so make sure you abla espanol)
- As Armada says click away from welcome screen to get at the map behind, then click on a hexagon on the map (white hexes imply more data so more chance of logs - usually near ports) and select the notifications you are interested in.
- Then select the pen and paper on the left and you 'should' see a log of entries.

It is not a user friendly website - but lots of nice info if you get it working. I regularly have to refresh the browser too :(
