Extreme difficult missions

A.H

Privateer
Are these missions meant to be finished?
Or they have no ending so in the middle of them they are meant to make you fail so you don't finish it at all?

AOP2/GOF/COAS were all treasures that deserve to be listed on Pirates Ahoy ... but this one is a horrible build with incompetent developers that have no desire to help customers whatsoever.

Instead of providing with a legitimate answer to the impossibility of these missions, they are either not responding or mocking anyone who complains.

I humbly ask Pirates Ahoy admins to reconsider this game for this website since it is a frustrating and a total mess compared to any other pirate game out there.
Until its developers are ready to put sensible missions, or provide complete walk through with how to finish each and every mission "THE WAY THEY WANT IT DONE", then people can actually finish them.
But at the moment, we do not know what developers want so we cannot finish these missions.

Seriously check this save file out.. it is 5 seconds before entering mission fort assault.
First assault is possible, but with enormous effort from your part.
Second one.. forget it, you don't have men, and enemy has plenty of HP.

To be fair, CoaS had it's fair share of bullshitting hard missions as well. And I'm not even talking about those stupid "Find a pixel-sized object in an undefined part of the jungle"-quests.

No, it's that story mission where you are assaulting a Spanish city on the land together with other pirate captains and on your way back to the ship, you are ambushed by a huge force with musketeers, which will one- or two-shot you. So your only chance is to run past them somehow.

Yes but in AOP2 you level yourself up before doing the national quests... but in TEHO the missions are horrendous; I spent weeks leveling my character and for nothing.. even if you were lvl 100, it is still un doable unless you have a first rate with 750 men to bring along Cartagena fort assault, which isn't possible because Tyrex rejects any 1st rate ship.

Then until what level should I have played? I was level 20-something (I think), had good equipment, a 1st rate with full crew and I was still getting slaughtered by that Spanish ambush, because for reasons only the game could give, I was all alone until I miraculously managed to run past them without getting shot.

Come on, that really wasn't good quest design.

Yes we would hope all the mods and new versions of AOP/COAS would be for the better.. but they just do the opposite.
I mean I also remember in a Spanish national questline you have to go rescue someone who is kidnapped and if you are low level then you are doomed.

I had to level up to 30-something before I could take them out, and even then... one pistol shot and I was dead.

Yea I think POTC is the only game I never complained about, to the point that I assisted in finding bugs and helping improve it until it was released publicly xD

A big toast to Pieter, Levi and all other folks who perform their modding clockwise instead of counter-clockwise :rofl

So after wreckless 2 days I managed to reach the mission for the gold in the mine, and this one is the stupidest of them all.
I started with 150 health potions and now I'm not finished with mission and all health potions have been run out.

So all the sudden you find a band of pirates waiting for you.... ok, what else to expect.

Then after I kill them all, I go outside, and more pirate bands.. with muskets too.

After big struggle, I killed them.

Then you exit the scene and guess what.. lone muskets, which raked all my health potions.
Another scene exit.. and MORE muskets.

After you exit then ANOTHER band of pirates who come rushing at you and you have no where to go.

This point I can confirm that Blackmark developers are dumb with all my sincerity; please don't take this as an offence, since not everyone is born perfect.

Those are painful words! I hope the developers never get to read that, because I can guarantee you they will be offended.
And rightly so.

Thankfully I'm not related to them, so what should I care? :rofl

Seriously I try not to be offensive, but if you just play missions for a minute you will break your computer... for this game alone I had to buy 2 new mouse..
Anyhow I witnessed more crap during this mission which no need to mention since I will complain to God about my miseries.

Thanks for listening, and may you never experience such frustrations !

I admire your perseverance then!
If it were me being that frustrated with a game, I'd play something else. :cheeky

Did you try the mod by @LarryHookins?
Maybe he can help you to make the game more playable.

Thanks for listening, and may you never experience such frustrations !
Cheers! Indeed I've never experienced those particular frustrations.
Other ones, yes, but not those ones. :doff

That's a very shitty setup you have on that save ,only basic health potions ? I mean you can collect wine or even rum potions easy in this game , why would you have the weakest potion in the game ? Also Rippers are awful in this game , always go with a cutlass , Always .4 barrelled pistol ? Why ? that's only a good idea if you've selected the gunnery characteristics back when you started the new game and even then it's not really worth it . It would not hurt to have farmed a muscet for one of your officers either . You can do that by capturing ships with musket salvo and looting the dead musketeers when boarding . Other than that I din't find the fight all that tough , it will just take a long time to finish it . You can slow down the battle by pressing - which will then give you enough time to dodge any attack , You'll be able to fight 4 enemies at a time like that , but with this shitty ripper you have dealing 20 dmg max in 1 hit it's gonna take a LOOONG time .

So that marks my points exactly; this game is not open world... you have to play it according to the sleezy developer's demands or else you will screw up.
Why is rapers in the game if we should only take cutlass?
Why are broadaxes and other weapons if we should take cutlass only?

And 95% of the time, small health potions are available.
From this 95%, a big % of it you find small numbers only... barely enough to fulfill yourself, moreorless your fighters.

And yes during missions I have to slow down to 0.5x or else it would be impossible to win.
So they should put this little detail in front page of Steam store: "slow down your game or else you cannot win"

Funny thing is, they are planning more DLC.. which in other words means: "we are planning to bring missions with 8 or 9 enemies to fight at once"

Different design choices, I suppose.
Not the best choice, if you ask me.

This game is very hard core and not for every casual player. Unfortunately it's the only half decent pirate game availalbe. You will have ve to learn how to play it and be ready for the rage it will cause you. I don't know if you've played the main story, but at the point where you capture the frigate "Fortune" you have to fight 6 musketeers alone, one of which has a rare double barrel musket. Now thatis a tough fight. You have to use the enemy musketeers as human shields and have a musket of your own if you wish to have any hope of surviving. That's how the game is. There is no better alternative so you either lern to use the broken mechanics to your advantage or be ready to rage alot. I just got to the end of the game and couldn't finish it because I got the fake mayan mask from the cursed island. Now i have to start the whole quest again and have to destroy 3 very tough squadrons and go through the musketeer fight again to capture "Fortune" :D

Yes well they need to make the game more reasonably playable for everyone, and not just make it extreme hardcore ... ruins the point of an open world freeplay game.
And many modders volunteer to help but the developers do not wish for assistance, so let them drink their own medicine I suppose :)

This game can be hardcore but must not if you know all tricks. I played the whole game through already 7 times and will do it again and again with every upcoming new DLC because i really love it. There is a trick for every hardcore situation, which you only have to find out. I, for example, always only you use one of my good ships for the whole main questline at the moment and if i meet a squadron like you discribed i never fight them. I only put my ship full of gunpowder (between 10.000 and 30.000 quantity, depending on the size of ship that i use) and sail away from the enemy. After some time they start to follow you like dogs and then you only have to place a minecarpet behind you and they explode one by one, except the cruising xebecs but they are easy to fight. If you want to keep the Fortune, you only have to board it first of all with the Griffondor (or any other equal ship that you can spare) full of gunpowder, then move the gunpowder to the Fortune, sink the Griffondor, escape from the others, put a minecarpet behind you and that´s it. Easy as pie :)

Also the musketeers are no problem if you prepare yourself with 2 bottles of Ometochli Tincture, about 30 bottles of big elixir, the horseman´s axe that you win during the fight in the hut and a naval carbine. First you should ignore the group and run away from the hut to the end of the path, there you only have to kill one musketeer fast and the others from there one by one. Take care that you stay out of Patterson´s reach till only he is left. Save your game and attack Patterson on the hill with 2 shots. Run back and hide till your heatlth is recovered and your gun reloaded. Attack again till he runs to the jungle. Save again and continue with the tactic till he is history :)

The toughest bossfight is at the end of the game against your brother and his followers. But it is also no problem if you prepare yourself with the Scorpion Talisman against poison, the Side-by-side Rifle musket, 10 bottles of Ometochli Tincture, about 50 bottles of big elixir and 10 bottles of Tears of Ixchel.

If you can only win by using tricks (for example exploiting the weak AI) instead of, well, playing skillfully, because the enemy is purposely overpowered and impossible to beat in a straight-out fight, then this isn't good design.
