Bombs, reputation points, and shotgun mode ???

Eye patch

Landlubber
Hello,

I love the new horizons mod. I'm playing 14.1 now. I just have a few questions. I've searched but I cant find a good answer so I thought I'd sign up and ask one of you salty sea dogs.

1. How do you find the bombs now? I read you can only get them from forts from the ordinance guy but he's never there. Is there a console cheat I can use?

2. I'm currently in the English navy and a senor lieutenant. Its slow going to get those points up. Its like one point per ship I sink. Any tips for more points? Also can you use cheat engine to change it?

3. I wan to use shotgun mode sometimes for fun but I dont know which gun needs to be equipped? I dont think you can buy shotguns in 14.1 ?

I know a lot of questions for a noob but thinks for any replys.

1: To find the ordnance guy, or other random civilians, you have to go into the fort through a landward gate. Not all forts have those. There will be a lot of soldiers and, randomly, sometimes one or more civilians. If a soldier talks to you, you're in for a fight, even if you're the same nationality as the fort - you're not supposed to be there anyway! If you can defeat or evade the soldiers and talk to the civilian, he can be one of various types picked at random. One of those types is the ordnance guy.

2: It depends on what sort of ships you sink. Pirates are small. Merchants are easy. The big points are for enemy warships - but of course, that's harder. Anyway, you'll probably still get your promotion more quickly than a real senior lieutenant, who would have to wait a few years. ;)

3: You need the "Expert Marksman" perk. Gun type is, I believe, irrelevant.

That's only 3 questions, which is not a lot at all! In any case, feel free to ask more.

You can also sail to other islands using 3D Sailing Mode.
Then you occasionally encounter a barge that also has some bombs on it.

Numpad 9 gives you instant promotions, if you want it.

There is one in the game, to be found from Clint Eastwood on Nevis.

Thanks Pieter,
So what is the best way to go about free play? Is it best to go stand alone and dump the navy? I may have made a poor choice.
I need the gun smith quest before I can unlock shotgun mode? Where do I find that guy? So many cool things about this mod. I added a lot of guns to my weapon locker and now my crew is bad ass. What good are the brothels? Quest related only? When I go to them there empty. Sorry for more questions..lol.. You modders are awesome FYI. :)

That's a difficult question, because the answer depends 100% on what you want to do.
But I haven't a clue what you want until you tell me. ;)

Turks, if I recall.

Pretty much that. They don't serve a whole lot of purpose.

FreePlay allows you to do pretty much what you want. Naval officers are bound by naval discipline; you are assigned your ship and you must stay in command of it until you're given a new, better one for free when you're promoted.

Privateers, a.k.a. corsairs, can gain ranks like naval officers, though at higher levels they get noble titles instead - a privateer will never become an admiral. They don't get promoted any quicker than naval officers. In fact, you can buy Letters of Marque from multiple nations, in which case each individual nation will take longer to promote you, but you can gain ranks from each of those nations at the same time. (Keep a close eye on international relations if you do this! If you're not careful, you may attack a ship belonging to a nation which is hostile to one of your clients and friendly to another, in which case you lose the Letter of Marque from the nation friendly to the ship you just sank.) Privateers don't get free ships when they're promoted, so if you want a better ship, you'll have to buy or capture it. But if you do capture a better ship, you can keep it, whereas a naval officer can only get the prize money for it.

Clint Eastwood is to be found in a jungle location on Nevis. He's not far from the Pirate Settlement, though you can get there with a bit more walking from Charlestown. Depending on realism level, he'll either have a shotgun or a brace of four horse pistols. But, as I said, "shotgun mode", i.e. first person aiming, isn't tied to a gun - get the "Expert Marksman" perk. On the other hand, if what you want is a shotgun effect, i.e. firing a blast which hits everyone downrange, just get any gun which uses grapeshot ammunition - blunderbuss, musketoon or grapeshot pistol.

You can also put armour and medical supplies into the weapons locker. If you think your crew are good now, wait till you see what happens if you put a dozen sets of battle armour in there.

Brothels should not be empty, but the game has no adult-rated sex scenes. You can pay to spend a night there, as you would in a tavern. Beyond that, yes, they have some uses in a couple of storylines. "Assassin" requires that brothels are enabled in the "Options" settings because one scene requires you to go into Charlestown brothel, while "Jack Sparrow" can use the Tortuga brothel for one scene if they're enabled but goes somewhere else if they are not.

So this is sort of a crazy question. Is there anyway to port the mini game from sea dogs 1 the 1st game and add it to this mode? I always loved that sword fight mini game. You guys added so much from the original sea dogs I was just curious. I figure its impossible anyways.
