Mod Release Alternative Music Pack

DeathDaisy

Freebooter
Storm Modder
Variety is the spice of life, so I made a music pack! :fiddler I wanted a less bombastic alternative for the more scrappy adventures, so I put in some effort in between the other modding I've been doing. I took great care to try and keep a consistent feel throughout while still giving the different towns and stuff a distinct character.

It's got more different songs for most of the various situations than the standard, from a lot of varying sources, like AC Black Flag, Witcher 3, Crusader Kings etc and quite a lot of non-game music for the towns and even some new vocal tracks for the pirate tavern. I kept some Cutthroat Island too; I couldn't bring myself to change them because they're so good, even if they're not quite the same feel as the other songs. I also kept some other standard songs that fit the mood.

I have normalized the volume of all the songs (I think) and have spent an unreasonable amount of time cutting and editing out parts of songs that didn't fit. The music's got it's own folder and nothing is overwritten, so it's easy to remove if you hate it.

"Daisy's Alt Music" isn't the most evocative name, and a bit more narcissistic than maybe I like, but I really couldn't come up with anything better. :shrug "Alternative Music" isn't exactly exciting either.. Suggestions are welcome.

Hope you enjoy it!

new addon for swedish town and governors! still requires the original pack for the rest of the music, but you can safely overwrite the old music_DaisyMusic.c :fiddler
-Swedish Addon incl Dutch folk-
-Swedish Addon with original Dutch music (rambling guitar)-

UPDATE: attached updated alias files for the new WIP update! rn they use the generic personal nation music from the main mod since those are alright, and optimally overwritten by your own music xD no music files are updated since the swedish addon, so just drop your preferred .c in PROGRAM\sound\alias, remove the part after music_DaisyMusic and overwrite the old one.

Ill soon upload a new combined archive with the entire thing once Im confident I wont do any more major changes for a while :fiddler

Question: Does anything need to be renamed or anything? I renamed Program- sound- alias - music_DaisyMusic.c to music_standard.c and hear no difference. It is still playing the old sounds.

Shouldn't have to rename anything, if you keep it as daisymusic you should be able to pick Daisy's Alt Music in the options menu in-game. Also should have said that you sadly have to start a new game to use the new music; for some reason the music is hardcoded into the save file o_O

Ohh. I never thought to look in options for anything.

Besides your music has started playing now, it just took a while to get going.

Very nice! :woot

While personally I am a huge fan of bombastic music, I am an even bigger fan of letting other people enjoy whatever they want, even if it is different.
So thanks for that.

Difficult to resist, isn't it? :cheeky

Indeed I wished that weren't the case as well. Seems a bit silly, but nobody bothered to do anything about it. :facepalm

After I installed it and then renamed it to music_standard.c it did keep playing the standard music. While i was in a shipyard I renamed a ship which caused it to automatically change the track being played. After that the new music started playing.

I like the new Spanish town music. It's much easier on the ears. But what happened with the Dutch town music? A rambling acoustic guitar solo isn't very Dutch to me. I don't know what Dutch sounds like but it's not that.

I had kinda the same problem, I have no idea what is a typical dutch "sound" such as flamenco is for spain, and when searching for it I found pretty much only classical music which I didnt quite think had the right feel, so I settled for some sombre acoustic guitar. While I personally like it, I'm not fanatically in love with that solution, so definitely open for other ideas if someone dutch or otherwise has some input! xD

I'm Dutch and all I know it's that I cannot stand genuine Dutch music; it tends to be really crappy.
Of course historical Dutch is a different story; there should be a shanty or two somewhere to be found.

The default Dutch music in the mod IS quite Dutch though.
It's from a Dutch "Flying Dutchman" theme park ride.

Turns out a lot of Dutch traditional music is really upbeat, like schottische :p I don't mind the original music, but that too is a bit too upbeat and orchestral. I found some nice old folk songs and shanties as you said, but those got lyrics which can get distracting, but I'm scouring the internet for things that got similar sound xD I have very particular tastes :diomed It's hard to describe and may sound a bit whimsical, but I have a pretty clear vision (audition?) of what fits. Is it very culturally insensitive to consider flemish music? :p sadly the netherlands is a bit of a blindspot for me

I found an album called Speeltijd (Acoustic Folk from the Netherlands) that had a some alright songs that I am forced to assume are appropriate.

@Hylie Pistof, if you like you can try these and see if like them better xD

Just put the files in the rar at Alternative Netherlands Music in the DaisyMusic folder and overwrite the .c with the one I attached (and didn't put in the rar because I forgot before I uploaded) or rename to standard for that nifty trick you discovered

Ok, will try soonest. What I did was replace the track I didn't like with "Lions Pride".

Nifty trick? Now you know why my motto is: You makum, me breakum.

The World Map and Direct Sail get the best music and that is fine as that is where I spend most of my time. It may be a while before I get to listen to that new Dutch music as they are hostile right now.

Hehe. I saw him live back in the 60s.

The Dutch town music is an acquired taste as it seems to grow on me kinda like a fungus. It is unique with some Northern Europe polka stuff and some French stuff blended together. It's ok but there must be something better out there.

While strolling through an English town the music with the violin solo sounded familiar. I searched a bit and ayup, here tis. It is called Celtic Ballade in game. Van Morrison & The Chieftains - Star of the County Down - YouTube

aw man, that's cool xD

yeah, fungus is an apt description, it's been growing on me too :pI'll keep my ears open for other alternatives! Ive found more than one place that says the Netherlands has a vibrant folk music scene, but not for their own folk music, so no promises. maybe if I can find something that sounds similar but fits better.. it's alright in the meantime I feel

I know that song, good find! I hadnt thought of it but now that I hear it I definitely recognize it
