Screenshots thread

Yes it is F8, but when you use it, it will take not only one shot, but a lot ( 10,20 I don't remember)
I use it anyway in combination with Easy2Convert and Paint.net. :sparrow

So I'm not the only one who gets that! But 10-20 is really excessive - I only get 2 or 3 copies of the same shot.

Same for me; maybe it depends on the performance of your computer and how long you keep the button pressed?

I'm probably being Captain Obvious, but I'd guess the check for if F8 is pressed doesn't have any delay which makes it do checks the entire time the button is pressed, which can probably be quite a lot of times depending on how fast a computer you got and how many milliseconds you push down the button. I would guess the function's in DX8RENDERER.dll in MODULES, since I got another d3d8.dll than comes with the build mod, and I can still take screenshots with F8. If you still got the non-compiled version of the file it's probably fixable, otherwise it's something we have to live with I guess.

Another thought I had that probably belongs here; I love taking screenshots and the free cam on land is nice, but on sea it always starts somewhere on/in the island and moves very slowly, so just moving it to where the ship is makes taking photos almost never worth the time investment, and doing it in battle is straight up impossible. Is it possible to make it start at the ship? Ultimately I'd love even more controls, like moving the camera with the time stopped, changing the FOV and speed etc, but that's a low prio wishlist and not a suggestion :p anyway, I just can't find settings for the free cam, not ones I can understand at least :fiddle any idea where I should start?

Lovely day in the archipelago, to keep up the screenshots in the screenshots thread :p:

Pieter is the one who knows how to work the free cam as he has used it a lot.

In my last game I wanted to get the FWzP but in 12 years only saw her 3 times and never got her. So in this game starting in 1612 she is common and I got her way too early so can't sail her well. Been trying to get the main sails a little bigger and fixing the waterline as for some reason she sits too high out of the water.

I doubt anyone on the planet has that. :(

I know exactly what you mean; I might even once have had a look into it, but I don't remember now.
Have a look at the "camera" file in the SEA_AI folder. Hopefully you'll have some luck there! :cheers

I looked around and felt like I was inching closer, but I just couldnt find any functions at all to control the camera at sea. I finally did a quick search at the forum and found an old thread where you had found exactly the same thing, so I guess a better free cam at sea is out of reach :(

Anyway, look at these crazy sailors climbing the ropes

They have to get up to those sails somehow, and it looks as though there are no shrouds to help them get there. Which ship type is that? (Probably "lugger1", because I've a good idea whose ship it is. ;))

Congratulations on your searching skills though!
At least then it's confirmed, so at least not worth spending much more time and effort on it. :doff

I think that pic's actually a LuggerVML from my now incompatible standard storyline game, it's very true I now mostly sail a lugger1 xD

Yes, I should have guessed - "lugger1" does have shroud lines, though they only go half way up the mast, and doesn't have all those ropes. "LuggerVML" appears to have no shrouds at all but does have ropes going up the mast where the shrouds would be. So the crew climb up the ropes as if they were shrouds.

Something I'm working on is sort of halfway between a storyline and a sidequest. It's storyline in that it is specific to Horatio Hornblower. It's sidequest in that it's run from "quests_side.c" and can be played either by continuing to free-play after the "Hornblower" storyline ends, or by picking Hornblower as a Free-Play character to start with - either way, it becomes available when you reach rank 6, Post Captain. It's based on the film "Captain Horatio Hornblower RN". So, here's the HMS Lydia, which is your ship if you're Captain Hornblower, and behind her is the Natividad, which you've just given to the rebel Don Julian Alvarado, alias El Supremo.

There's a lot of dialog and set-piece scenes. Literally, while working on this I have VLC running the film in one window, with "quests_side.c" and some dialog files in other windows, so I can develop dialogs and scenes while using the film as reference. So here's the consequence of giving that ship to El Supremo:
deck_scene.jpg
Lady Barbara Wellesley has just turned away in disapproval of your lack of courtesy. Facing you is the captain of the lugger which brought her. Behind him is the former captain of Natividad and some of his crew. And standing by the boarding area is Midshipman Longley.

Whose idea was it to reinstall the NL_Batavia into the game? Yes at one time it was one of the best ships in the game but today her only redeeming characteristic is the figurehead. The path is from another ship entirely, the original Lydia irrc, and she has no walk file so has no crew. I feel like an idiot for working on her.
