Need Help is there any MODS about translation?

haochunjie

Landlubber
hello all .I`m new here and I`m from china, when I searching for TEHO`s MODS, I found PiratesAhoy, it`s a amazing forum to discuss TEHO.
my english is horrible ,so i translate my words in google to talk with you guys. I found there are many very kind people make amazing MOD`s for TEHO like sir HOOK,sir kb31, etc. but i can`t find any MOD`s can translate the font inside the game.
as you know ,even we study English in our school these day, still we can`t understand the word or dialog in the game,it`s too hard for us.
when i use TEHO MOD,there is a folder named QUESTBOOK,I change the questlog text in chinese letter, the game can`t display normaly。I realized that I was too naive.
i don`t know how hard to make a MOD can translate the game into chinese,or even it`s possible.
coud anyone can give me some advice, how should I start making this MOD?

thanks,谢谢大家

As a native English speaker I had enough trouble following some of the dialogues (as translated from the Russian into the "English" version) in TEHO for my short playing with it. So I can understand the difficulty. That said even translating between two European languages (for POTC New Horizons) is not simple see this thread for some of the issues (and work required)
Spanish translation

- add in the change in character set and I suspect it is a bridge too far to Chinese/Mandarin etc.

However the thread did make me think what we need is a Startrek (TM) universal translator or a Babel fish. That set me thinking (outside the box) if someone with the technical know how could write a function to feed a text string as generated in the game into windows paste buffer it might give some help . It could be added as a call where each such text string is generated, you could run the game in windowed mode, tab out, paste what you couldn't follow into Google translate and get a (google garbled) version in your own language - which could help if you are really stuck following what is meant? It takes the character set problem out of the equation. It would break the immersion factor of course but if you can't understand what is being said you are pretty much screwed any way. I have n't followed through on the thought as to how multi choice strings would be deal with etc but .... Any takers?

A new texture-based font would need to be made for that too. That makes the task even more difficult....
thank you for your reply
I know about font.tga.tx things, English letters and Russian letters plus special characters, also dozens of characters.
But our Chinese characters, or Korean words, Japanese characters, the total amount is far more than this number. According to our words, a total of more than 100,000, even the most commonly used, more than 7000, if they made into font.tga.tx. This will be a huge project, and I do not know, even if the completion of this picture, how to make it and the program linkage.
(Still use google translation, I hope you understand what I am talking about)

Unfortunately, this is technically impossible at the moment
thanks you for your reply
In about 8 years ago, I played AOP: COAS. I can frankly say that it is a cracked version, but also because it is cracked version, some of our localization group (specifically to foreign game translation made Chinese version of the player spontaneous organization, non-profit) to translate it into Chinese, so I and my friends had the honor to play this great game.
Now, I bought a genuine 1.5.1 TEHO on the steam, the Chinese translation patch does not apply.
But one of my friends told me that in the use of your MOD (mainly PROGRAM folder), coupled with pirated TEHO and COAS translation patch, even a large part of the UI and the game content was translated. Had to sigh, 8 years ago patch, now even apply to the new sea dog.
But the organization has been dissolved, and now our domestic organizations are not willing to translate TEHO, they are concerned about the more fire game, TEHO in our country, the players too little.
So, I initiated the idea of making a similar patch, but since you said that this technology can not be achieved, especially the steam version, then it seems that I can only give up.
By the way, note everyone happy Halloween, although our country is not this section, but I found steam on TEHO because of Halloween and engage in promotion, very, very cheap, I wish BMS not because of the money and fail, so sea dog Series is a pity.

Can you share this localization patch?

Can you share this localization patch?
sure ,but i don`t know how to upload for your guys.
Here is my link to download the patch:http://small.bxamp.com/bd/aop2coascn.rar
I do not know if you can use the above address, in fact it is this page:《加勒比海盗2:沉船之城》中文汉化补丁 V1.0下载左贤王汉化-乐游网游戏下载
But this page has too much spam confusing, will affect you find the correct download address, the real download address at this region:

if this still don`t work, i think you may give me your email,so i can send it to you directly

this patch should be 75.3MB and name is “aop2coascn.rar”,include 1 EXE file and 1 txt file, all named in Simplified Chinese。Install it into the game directory, it will be a folder called HUNKING, which contains an EXE file, a DLL file, a BIN file and 1 INI file.
as i know this patch has support 4 language:original,Simplified Chinese,traditional Chinese and “Other Language”(I guess it's related to UNICODE,i don`t know what`s it mean)。
I tried to know how it work, but i failed。seem they build lot translated image into it。make the game support and could display Chinese character。even we can type Chinese character into the game to solve some quest like "find someone in Justice island" and “Unravel the puzzle about sailing”,this part is most exciting。
that all i know about this patch.

Looks impressive. As I thought, this patch not only changes the strings, it substitutes the font and renders it. TBH, I don't know how they did this, it would take a while to figure it out, and I have no time lately. :(
The thing is Chinese language requires Unicode, and Storm doesn't support it. This means you can't use Unicode in scripts without rewriting the engine. AFAIK, @konradk worked on this issue, but I've not heard from him for a long time. This is a difficult task, and probably the feature is not finished yet. The other problem is that TEHO is active project, and despite the fact we can run it under custom Storm engine, we won't publish this bunch while the project is alive.
So, it seems that the only way is to use your patch customized for TEHO. But since all data is hardcoded, you need either the source code of the patch or at least some information about data structure organization of DLL's overlay.

It does not matter, just because you made such a great MOD, I and my friends can find COAS patch can be used for TEHO.Thank you very much.
BMS do not want us to mess up their game, they do not have the ability to make a Chinese version, I understand very much.
Now, I only hope that in the next version (although do not know when there will be news), they can open part of the code, so MODers can have more room to play, then, TEHO various languages Patch is no longer a problem, There will be more and more players will join this great game。

New patch arrived yesterday. Still no open scripts ;(
My friend and I translated part of the Questlog. They look good. If we could translate all the files in the QUESTBOOK folder, I think we should be able to translate the main story task log.

But as you can see, the patch changes the fonts in the game with no spaces between these English words. Even the conversations with the NPC show so, so when we start translating, we have to translate all the English, otherwise we increase the burden of reading dialogue.
QQ截图20171104124935.png

I can not find the resource file that stores these conversations. I know that many conversations are written in the programming language. Maybe I should start with these most common conversations. Could you tell me which file it is in? I was looking for 2 days, but there is no clue。

Well, Chinese language was used on computers even without unicode, simply in ANSI, I think. The existence of this version doesn't automatically mean, that it has unicode.
Wow, thanks for your reply.
You are correct. there are two versions of Chinese, simplified Chinese is used in ASNI-GB2312, traditional Chinese is used by ASNI-BIG5, this patch provides language included in the "other", I think this option is related to UNICODE.
In addition, I spend a lot of time finding the DLL file in the patch that contains these functions, which makes it more clear.
QQ截图20171104181020.png

Fit Chinese in 1 byte? Hmm, I've heard there were 2bytes based encodings, but not just ANSI...interesting
Anyway, I found many MultiByteToWideChar calls in the patch, that's why I assumed it draws Unicode

@haochunjie, I didn't try to figure out how these functions work, but the patch main binary is hunking.bin, and the DLL seems to be a resource library
