Need Help Quest bugs + ship cannons

Rolee9309

Powder Monkey
Hi all!

Before I started messing around with the game files, in the stock game I have some bugs(?) with NPCs.

-Artois Voyes: I completed the quest, but every time I visit Conceicao port, he disappears, and that part in Conceicao starts over again, and again, and again... It does not re-update the questbook, I just need to go to tavern-tavern upstairs-governor-jungle, and have to fight the 3 men again, but Artois stays there dead.

-Edgar Attwood: I DID modified the quest_reactions.c file (there was some lines related to him), but I got stuck both in the editing and the quest, when I talk with the drunk soldiers in the tavern, and they say he will be transported to Greenford prison. Anybody knows how to add that quest?

-Amerigo Vieira: if I kill him, and return to Mateus, he says "Until the target is alive, we don't have to talk about anything", or something like that (I KILLED Amerigo). Or If I don't kill Amerigo, I can't enter Mateus' house, however (based on the quest book update and the dialog file), I have to talk with Mateus one more time.

-Claire Larousse: I found in the officers.c file, and the quest_reaction.c file, he has some work for me, and I figured out, he is in the Isla Muelle tavern according to files, but I never met him.

-Virginie d'Espivant: I read about her in the internet (but only found the NH mod version), and I found the dialog and the quest lines, but I don't know how to start the mission (I was in Falaise de Fleur tavern, but nothing).

Once again: these problems occured BEFORE I started modifying some of the files, and are still in my game (I don't really edited the quest/dialog/character files, apart from the one above I mentioned).

*And some interesting things: I edited the ships - brought manowar into the game, and gave them alongside with battleships 32lbs cannons. And sometimes they constantly firing, and not doing a single damage! I captured some of them, and in the shipyard, the game said they had NO cannons at all equipped. My thoughts: is this because the ships' weight (Tonnes2CWT) is smaller than the weight of the cannons (like for example: Battleships weight is around 2500 tons, has 70 32lbs cannons (has a weight of 60 each, which is 4200 in total)?

Anybody could help me out? :( I would highly appreciate that!

Cheers!

Out of curiosity, why are you running the stock game?
Virtually nobody here still does, so troubleshooting is not so easy.

There may be a difference between the US and EU versions of the stock game too.
I only ever know the EU one, which seemed to work quite well.

I know, but I... I just like it :D That was my first pirate game ever.
Could you advice me some sort of site, or people who is somewhat expert in the original version?
I use the PotC.ENG version (soo, it's the EU one).

Well... Technically this place is still your best bet.
I know I've done my fair share of modding the stock game back in the early days.
But that was a long time ago and I neither remember much of it nor have time to look into much of anything these days.

Maybe @Grey Roger has some clever suggestions?

Quests: several quests were bugged in the stock game, which is why they were disabled. Among the earliest things done in the mod was debugging and activating those quests.

Artois Voysey should work. I'm pretty sure I completed that one back when I was playing the stock game. Things weren't signposted as much as they are in the current version, so I'd got used to having the "Artois Voysey" entry permanently in the questbook until the day I had him as an active officer when I landed at Conceicao - a moment of true discovery as the quest finally progressed! Perhaps that one was also bugged and didn't close down properly; if so, the workround would be to not have Artois Voysey as one of your active officers next time you visit Conceicao.

Amerigo Vieira should also work because I definitely completed that quest while playing the stock game.

I don't recall playing either Edgar Attwood's or Claire Larrouse's quests. Either they never worked or I never bothered with them. It may be that Claire Larrouse in particular was one of the bugged quests so, although the code for the quest is there, it may have been disabled by simply not putting Claire into Isla Muelle tavern.

Virginie d'Espivant: find people in other taverns to gamble with. As I recall, in the stock game, you had to win a lot of games, possibly win one in every tavern in the archipelago except Falaise de Fleur. Eventually one of the gamblers should propose a special game with an unusual prize...

Man of war: should already be in the game, it's Silehard's flagship in the penultimate battle at Khael Roa.

Yeah, I did that method with Artois, it's fine now. It's just a little bit irritating when I forget to remove him.

I'll try the gambling thing, thanks!

There are several manowars in the game files, which are disabled (manowar1/2_england, etc.). But this glitch occurs when I encounter with battleships with 32lbs cannons too. Also, the manowar_gub (Silehard's ship) is equipped with 24lbs cannons by default (and I changed that to 32lbs of course :D ). But i added some weight to the ships, and lightened the cannons, let's see if it works.

I don't recall playing either Edgar Attwood's or Claire Larrouse's quests.
There were a fair few sidequests that were unfinished in the stock game and therefore disabled. Those were finished in the mod and enabled.
I can't remember which quests those were, but they're documented somewhere in the large PDF in the mod's "Documentation" folder.

Good chance that some of the mentioned quests are included.
In that case, the solution is simple: Play the mod. Even an old version like Build 11 or Build 12.1 would do for that purpose.
Both versions are very close to the stock game, but with some notable fixes and improvements included.
But they are not a complete reworking like Build 13 (new WorldMap) and Build 14 (lots of additional new everything).

Thanks for the help guys, you both helped a lot! :)
@Pieter Boelen I will look after those quests in the documentation, and play the older build too (I didn't play with the latest mod in the past few days, but I did and will do)
