Included in Build Interface Screenshots for Ships

Things are a bit unsettled right now but there are two ships that could be considered good enough to add as is, but really do need a bit more work. The NL_Pinnace of War47 and what I call the medium pinnace from De Zeroovers.

Actually they are done as I no longer have any tools to work with on this computer. I'm still working on getting win8.1 up to speed. :modding

Two new ones:

@Hylie Pistof: Can you please check this description for the MediumPinnace?
Code:
PinnaceMedium_Descr{A medium cargo ship. Well built but slow.
Bearing bearing a Dutch colour scheme.}
I just came up up with a near-copy of the PinnaceMerchant, so that isn't very impressive.... :wp

The medium pinnace is actually the fastest pinnace. The speed setting is: Medium pinnace, light pinnace and NL_pinnace, merchant pinnace. Only the Derfflinger fluyt is faster. I set the Derfflinger to be the same speed as the FWzP because they historically sailed together.

The medium pinnace and the NL_pinnace are about the same with the medium pinnace being faster and the NL_Pinnace having more cannons.

Oh, I've been hacked twice now and lost everything on the C: drive and only found this info in an old archive.

Alternate text then:
Code:
PinnaceMedium_Descr{Well built and the fastest of her type.
Medium Dutch trader with some green paint.}

I have now uploaded the main grid files as PSDs in the first post, so someone else can make future changes.

@Hylie Pistof, do you have a screenshot of your latest creation that can be used for the ship interface screenshots?
And would anyone see the chance of updating @Armada's file from the opening post with this by any chance?

Are you in the rainy season then? What month are you in?

There is a command in console.c you can use to force it to be clear skies.

Does anyone remember if there was a specific reason to change Schooner1 to use a different hull texture?
It was brought it to my attention that she now has the same hull as the US_Schooner47, which isn't so awesome for variety. :facepalm

So how about bringing her original stock game paint scheme back? See attached.
I already did it in my game and she seems to work quite fine.
Only the Interface Screenshot file ("shipsBL.tga.tx") would need to be updated to match.

Darn it! I *almost* managed to do it myself: http://www.piratesahoy.net/build/shipsBL.7z
That copy of the file has the restored Soleil Royale as well as somewhat cleaned up alpha maps. It also has the Schooner1 picture replaced.
But how do I put that "black inner shadow" on there in the same way as for the other ships???

@Armada or @Grey Roger, a little help please....?

First you need to fill the blank square in the main picture with black. The easiest way to do that is probably to use the "magic wand" selector and point it at the blank square, then set foreground colour to black and fill the selected area.

Assuming your version of Photoshop allows you to feather selection areas, use the rectangular selector with feather set to 4. You'll need to manually create a selection square around the ship picture exactly matching its edges - for example, that picture of the schooner is size 240x240 starting at position 1032, 776, so that's the selection area you need to pick. Copy and paste that, then get rid of, or at least hide, the layer with the full picture. The copy should be the same as the original but with faded edges, which on top of the black background you filled earlier will give the picture its shadow edges.

Here's the finished product:

Thanks, @Grey Roger! Didn't know about that "feather" option. :woot
This is what I got:
upload_2016-1-6_14-1-35.png

Still not quite the same between left (original style) and right (my attempt at replicating it).
Do you know where the discrepancy comes from? I tried using 8px, but that didn't do the trick either.

Or would we really need @Armada to enlighten us on exactly how he did that effect?

Try playing with the feather setting and pick a smaller square, e.g. feather 5, size 238x238 starting at 1033, 777. The smaller you make the square, the more solid black you'll have round the edge; the more feather you have, the more gradual the shading will be.

Incidentally, take a close look at the ship at the bottom left of that picture. That's FR_FirstRate. It appears to have a merchant flag. o_O

Well, I suppose this will do until @Armada confirms his exact trick.
It's not like I actually have time to spare on all of this. :facepalm
