I just ran across this, and I really don't understand, this looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen to me! Shouldn't they be concentrating on things like making sure their kitchens, bathrooms and swimming pools safer before they start swinging people out over the water a few hundred feet in the air? Sure the view is great, but what happens if your stuck out there during a generator failure or something?

The Daily Mail has a write up on it HERE.

Yeah, it would be nice if they concentrated on the infrastructure before adding more gingerbread, but that is just a glorified hydraulic crane and those have been around for decades and are very safe. If all ship power is lost while that thing is hanging out over the water the biggest issue is swinging it back in over the ship. If the turntable is tilted slightly gravity will swing it back to center and then you only open a side panel and turn a valve to release hydraulic pressure and lower it.

I hadn't thought about draining the hydraulic pressure, that could work. I sure wouldn't want to be the one testing it though!

That depends on who has his hand on that valve. It is about the size of the valve you use to water your lawn. When taking the class on how to run a crane or man basket everyone gets to work that valve and it lowers the boom slowly and controllably.

Damn, this thing is huge!

The quantum of the Seas arrived on 10.23.2014 in Hamburg. The ship had just before delivery into dry dock Elbe 17 serviced at Blohm and Voss. The Quantum of the Seas is the third largest cruise ship in the world and the largest ever built in Germany.

Holy mother of pearl.....

I WANT THAT ONE! :wp need to go change my pants.

I think the word is "insane". Don't think I'd like to work on one of those..... :no

yeah gota say i wouldn't work on one of them anything under captain , not much for the hospitality industry myself

I don't think I would even enjoy being on one as a passenger. You can't even feel the ocean on those big ships, at least not until the seas really start getting a bit rough. You could get almost the same experience at a beach resort somewhere, and probably for a lot cheaper.
