On Beta 3.4, you say? What modpack version do you have shown in your game's main menu?
Sounds like you are missing the actual update then and are still running an old game version.
That would certainly explain the missing storylines because they weren't yet there in Beta 3. They'll also be gone/modified in Beta 3.5 but that is still WIP.
