Gday all,

I am quite interested in helping out on the programming side in whatever small way may be possible.

A bit about me:
Early 30s and employed in a relatively high tempo job that is absolutely nothing to do with programming or technology!

Self taught basic programming (Turbo Pascal) in school - Crowning achievement was simple RPG with turn based battles using ascii 'graphics' and UI (Bloody hard as you could only refer to code that was written higher up in the file...)

Didnt touch programming for a while then went to teaching myself C++ about 6 or 7 years ago. (Basic ascii maze games, programs to encode/decode text messages etc). Fell by the wayside due to long periods away from technology access with work.

Got into Unity a few years ago. Some C# courses in recent uni studies but still largely self taught through experimentation and perusing online docs. Currently confident with basics and able to handle intermediate scripting (Basic/intermediate levels as per unity learn site classifications).

In the last few years I have found myself drawn to programming as I am enjoying the challenge (basically problem solving activities) and am enjoying working on hobby games more than playing games themselves!

I have ongoing hobby experience with unity without finishing any decent projects (some small games but nothing exciting).
I have also modded Arma 2 and 3 (Main one was a realistic navigation aids (pace counter, hand angles etc) mod for A3)

I have no experience with :
- Multithreading
- Collaborative programming practices or tools (Significant team experience, just not in programming!!)
- Larger scale programming architecture (especially game - eg. game manager architectures)
- Non gameplay/UI related aspects (eg. shaders etc)
- Negligible experience with MP (Currently playing around with PUN but for all intents and purposes I would rate it as nil experience)

I have been perusing collaboration forums for some time as I am quite keen on getting exposure to being part of a more experieneced programming team. I am very interested in being exposed to an environment where I would be working under guidance from a head programmer and being exposed to areas outside my experience as I feel it will be a great way to develop 'game programming' skills.

I dont have significant amounts of free time to devote to working on this (10 month old daughter takes up a bit of time!) but I am quite keen to help out where I can, both because I am interested in the idea of this game (and think it would be a blast to work on!) and I am keen to improve my programming ability.

Understand completely if I am seen as a liability over an asset but if you have a use for me, I am up for it!

Happy to discuss anything else via PM (esp. work, commitment ability etc) if needed.

Cheers

Hi Doz, welcome!

You sound like exactly the sort of person we need right now. We have several things that our programmers could use some extra hands with.

@Captain Murphy is our lead programmer, and he can explain what needs doing.

Welcome! I will send you my skype info and you can contact me there when you get a chance.
