Ahoy Mateys!

I've decided it's about time to give something back to the community, so it would be an honour to be able to join the team as a modeller for both Hearts of Oak *and* the POTC Build Mod. I don't pretend I'm anything amazing at this point (having only very recently begun modelling) but know I can offer something as I'm now doing Visualisation for a living and need to get a varied palette beyond just buildings! So please be nice O:) I know it's nothing even near to the skill required for a decent Hearts of Oak SOTL or even sloop, but I'm an extremely fast learner...feedback always welcome :yes

I use 3DS Max 2015 and Cinema 4D R14 Broadcast. Below are a few WIP projects which are *kinda* within context. I'm happy to do further samples if wanted. For Hulls, I use the Loft function and for guns and weapons I use the Lathe tool.

Hope this is an adequate enough quality for me to be considered! :)

Cheers, Rob

Looking pretty good!

While that Monitor probably wouldn't make its way into HoO any time soon, I'd be curious to see her in PotC. :cheeky

Thanks!

Yeah it's purely here for demonstration purposes as it's the closest model I have to a ship at this moment! Be very interesting to balance...perhaps a bit OP vs anything smaller than a Battleship though :D. I guess the tradeoff is that there are only two guns...could make for a very interesting late game in POTC, at least!

As for prop-making, I'd love to get on board HoO on that too, as I understand there's a lot to be made!

@Ashinokami may have something for you, if you would like to try your hand at ships though, @Captain Armstrong might have some suggestions. If you would rather work on buildings, we may be able to come up with something for you there as well. As Pieter suggests though, you could just pick something and have at it!

At this point in in time I'd say buildings and the odd prop are my safest bet for HoO modelling, so long as me working in 3DS/C4D isn't a huge hindrance to the workflow? I'd normally ship in .obj and I've seen on here that it's generally a useable format with 3DS? Ships are what i want to be doing more than anything but I may need a bit more practice with hulls and locators etc before I'd be confident trying to add them...:unsure I have my 1-gun Charlotte Dundas project which I'll work on for the Build Mod in the meantime anyway which should get me going. I'll wait and see what the co-ordinators have to say and if there's anything that stands out for me to do...

Ok then, for props we have this:
http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/interior-objects-and-furniture.24000/
and this:
http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/man-made-world-objects.21756/
Also several lanterns would be nice, starting with marine type (cowhorn etc.)

of buildings there are this, in this case very irregular, non-hardsurface stuff:
http://www.piratesahoy.net/threads/primary-sources-mega-thread-maps-blueprints.21213/page-2 , several posts down.
Choose and PM me, I'll give more references if needed. Also look into texturing guidelines on our wiki, props more than anything are dependent on unique textures.
And for ships you shouldn't worry about engine setup, it's such a long project before export, that you'll have plenty time to learn the little setup there is.

Welcome aboard! :) I agree it makes most sense to start with props, because we need them of course, but also because of their scale-meaning you'll likely see it Ingame much sooner than a ship and get to optimize your workflow too. You're monitor is looking good though! Perhaps a few more edges than are necessary for the underwater hull form-but that is something that is easy to scale back on. Overall very neatly done. :onya Looking forward to seeing your progress on your first HoO project!

Thanks Captain Armstrong! After my HMS Warrior's hull got a bit messed up the first time round I thought I'd go a bit simpler and have a stab at Monitor just to practice Nurbing really...I'm definitly going to have to work on using less Polys too! The Armstrong has over 40k

I look forward to getting some props and buildings modelled for HoO in the meantime!
