Need Help Double Files in Ships Folder

Sirten Deth

Landlubber
After I loaded CoAS I Added patch 1.3 then patch 1.4 beta. I tried to edit some of the ships, I want a ship that will sail about 17 knots & turn about 40%-50% faster. I tried to do 1 or 2 of each class except class 7. Every time I try to edit ships the game wont start. It gives me various error messages ie 'runtime error' about start.exe or else MS visual c++, etc. I can edit character OK, but it will not let me edit ships ?? Also now I have two identical 'Ships init.c' files, whats up with that ? The game runs this way but why double files ? P.S. I hope this is posted in the right place.

Shipsinit.c is the place to change ship performance. Note that a new game is required for any changes to take effect.

As to why you have double files, I have no clue.

I realize "Shipsinit.c" is the editable file for ships, BUT. My files are "Ships init.c",and if I edit either or both the game will not start. Therefor there can NOT be a new game to allow them to take effect. I am getting 'your name', but not at you. LOL It would almost be funny if I wasn't so PO'ed. I am running windows 7 pro (for windows xp computability) but I SURE wished I could be using xp again. PP.S. I LIKE your name its kind of like mine 'Sirten Deth" which is one of my favorite character names, tho I also like Hacken Slash. But I really do wish I could get this game going cause I really do like it, I just wish I didn't have to reinstall all of my 'stuff' thanks to a windows 10 excursion. Another long story & really why I am 'highly pissed off'. Thanks

Windows XP was great in its day but by today's standards it is junk. Windows 7 is the best version with windows X being pretty good too.

Why double files indeed? It is quite impossible for there to be two files of the exact same name in the exact same spot.
So it does seem that your posts are missing some crucial details, despite being somewhat on the verbose side.

Hi,

First in Program/Ships the file is called Ships_init.c... And in Program/net/common you've a file called Ships.c and there's also
the whole ships with caracteristics.

That sounds like an AoP/CoAS special thing. Probably for the ship-vs-ship multiplayer functionality that existed in the first AoP.
You would want the ship stats to be the same on both computers, regardless of any modding.
I imagine that might be the reason, but I don't know and I could just be making this up. :wp
