Windows 10 laptop

Hello all,

I recently upgraded to a Windows 10 laptop, but I had to get an external DVD drive. It's an alienware and they don't offer a disc drive anymore for some reason.

Anyway, I installed AoP2 CoAS, but I have to install Tages in order to play it. My problem is that I can't take this external drive with me everywhere and risk damaging my original disc. I tried searching the forums, but can't seem to find what I'm looking for other than offers for a PM. I was wondering if GoF, or any other mods made it possible to play without the disc? A handful of older games' companies have been releasing a no cd patch, such as Halo, and I was wondering if it was the case for this game. From what I could find it seems this game has been mostly abandoned since its release, which is an absolute shame. I tried to get the no cd from gamecopyworld, but every no cd I find is flagged as a Trojan and blocked by windows defender. I know this is a taboo topic in most forums and apologize if I've crossed the line, but I do own a legitimate copy of the game and am trying to preserve it. Especially considering how difficult it is to obtain. I would be willing to take a photo of my game disc or anything else to prove my intentions if needed.

I started with the original 2003 PoTC, and got this a few years ago. I recently purchased AoP: Caribbean Tales from GoG, but it's confusing if that is the same game as Sea Dogs 2, and if PoTC is considered AoP 1? I downloaded the Historical Immersion Supermod and was wondering if it's anything near PoTC with the build mods, or AoP2 with GoF? I had such a great time with the original PoTC and the build mod, especially making my fleet with the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman... great times.

If anyone has any information or suggestions I would really appreciate it!

Sea Dogs 2 was renamed to Pirates of the Caribbean.
AoP: Caribbean Tales is newer and is the first game under the AoP name (technically the third game in the Storm Engine series).
It was never modded a lot, so don't expect Build Mod levels of additional goodness.
I'm not sure, but I assume there is a No-CD patch in the Historical Immersion mod.

Oh ok, that makes sense. The way they named them is just so confusing. I remember getting PoTC and thinking it actually had nothing to do with the movie haha.

I was looking for no cd for CoAS, I have Caribbean Tales on GoG so I'm good with that.

Thanks

Very confusing indeed!
Would have been so much simpler had they stuck to the Sea Dogs title.

You were almost right then; PotC does have virtually nothing to do with the film.
They just slapped the title on it and made the tiniest of tie-ins.

Oops, misunderstood you there.
I know what you want exists, but I'm not so familiar with CoAS so I don't quite know where to find it.
Might be hiding around on the forum somewhere though.

For AoP II COAS, I might be able to help with a couple options.

One way to run the game without the cd, is to use something like Daemon Tools Lite and mount a mini/fake image of the game. I can't remember where I found this on the internet, but for purpose of this reply, I have uploaded the AoP2 mini image here:
MEGA

The file is AoPVD.zip, which contains the NS-AOP2_TG-poseden mini image files. Create a directory and extract the 2 files.

If you install DAEMON Tools Lite (I have tried version 4.41 on XP Pro and Win7 and version 10.4 on Win8 and both work), mount a SCSI virtual drive, point it at NS-AOP2_TG-poseden.mds and that acts like the AoP 2 cd is in the drive. You won't be able to see any files in the mounted drive in a file explorer, but it tricks the Tages into thinking the game cd is there and the game works normally. When you first try to mount a SCSI, I believe DAEMON will prompt that it needs to install SPTD driver, but that only happens the first time. Just select to install SPTD that first time and DAEMON will automatically enable the feature.

Another option is to use my fully recompiled AoP 2; it does not require a cd at all. You can read a little about it here: Age of Pirates 2 COAS and GOF - JLB version | PiratesAhoy!

You can download them at the same MEGA link MEGA

AoP2Test.zip = Our source compiled vanilla COAS in DirectX 8
AoP2TestDX9.zip = Our source compiled vanilla COAS in DirectX 9
GOF1.2Test.zip = Our source compiled GOF 1.2 in DirectX 8
GOF1.2TestDX9.zip = Our source compiled GOF 1.2 in DirectX 9
GOF 2.0 = GOF2TestDX9.zip in DirectX 9
GOF 2.5 Supermod = GOF2.5SModTestDX9.zip in DirectX 9

I downloaded AoP2 on my new laptop, I used to play it years ago, but now it will keep telling me I have to insert the original dvd...what am I supposed to do? I read about a "no-dvd patch" but I can't find it anywhere.
