Screenshots thread

That is such a small thing that I never noticed it before. Dunno what could fit in there, perhaps one of the shield.tga?

The Neptunus is about the easiest ship of all to repaint and I've had a lot of fun with her over the years so the variants could be endless.

Pick whichever of those blue ones you like best, then zip and upload the textures. I think we've just found our French variant. :onya

The "Neptunus" (and "NeptunusE", an earlier version whose model differs only in having a sprit topmast instead of jib sails) is indeed an easy ship to repaint. Instead of a single texture file which is a picture of the whole ship, there are specifically defined areas on the model which use textures that are just areas of coloured wood. Copy and rename the texture files, hex-edit the model file to use the new ones, then change the colours of the new ones, and that's it. I had a go at it myself, though I like a nice varnished wood finish:

Doesn't @Hylie Pistof do it by only HEX-editing?
I'd imagine that he'd have to create new texture files as well. Hex-editing the model file merely allows you to change the names of the files which the model uses to texture various parts. You then need to provide texture files with those new names. And because you're changing the filenames at character level, the new ones need to be exactly the same length as the old ones. That's why you'll see files in "RESOURCE\Textures\Ships" with names like "wood.tga.tx", "w2od.tga.tx", "w3od.tga.tx", and if I bring in my version then you're going to see "w4od.tga.tx" as well. (If @Hylie Pistof used "w4od" for his textures then mine are going to become "w5od".)

Indeed I rename existing textures and then hexedit the GMs. It's a little time consuming but fun. Those screenies I posted are from years ago and those textures are long gone so I will have to start over again. I kinda like that second one. The first one is my Christmas package. Methinks I posted it here somewhere a while back.

While I have Paint Shop Pro I am anything but and don't create textures but simply rename existing ones. I like that varnished look and could use something like it on the Polacca.

Ya, anything under 2mb I can post here or in a PM.

You already have the wood texture for the "Neptunus". It is "plank_wood6.tga.tx" and is used for "NL_NeptunusE". "PO_Hull_01.tga.tx" is another good one - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was based on the other, as the wood grain is fairly similar. "plank_gren.tga.tx" is a green version. Photoshop has a "Hue/Saturation" slider, perhaps Paint Shop Pro has something similar, which would let you change the colour of those plank textures to whatever you like.

Those are entirely wrong for the Polacca as they make it look like it is made out of toothpicks. The way it is made makes it "need" larger textures. The one I found is d3ck_br.tga. It is perfect except that it looks too new and unpainted. I might try to darken it a bit later. Right now I'm trying to make a light, bright green and white paint job for the new PO_Neptunus. Think: the first Neptunus screenie but with light green trim.

In a flash of inspiration I whipped this up, I hope you can get some use out of it :)

There was an error some time ago (probably when migrating the forum over to new software) when some of the earliest members had their join dates reset to 1970. :shrug
We fixed this for a couple of members who could remember their actual join dates, but not for all of them.

The prepackaged ENB looks very nice, but I love to customize so I've been experimenting with d3d8to9 by crosire and ReShade 3.0 as an alternative. I really like where it's going, it gives the game a vibrant and lively look. the ambient occlusion especially gives the scenes ashore a lot of depth.
