Screenshots thread

Thanks, girl. You're the best. xD

I actually managed to get it to work and play around the wide range of settings reshade offers but couldn't find anything suitable or without some graphical bugs. I liked your screenshots and are going to try your settings right now.
xD

Is that better than the default ENB settings included in the mod installer?
If so, perhaps it should be considered as a replacement for that. :cheeky
the default enb does have the advantage of being very simple and light on performance, but its also quite limited. reshade def looks fancier, it has lots more options for color correction and especially the ambient occlusion is really sweet but its also a bit heavier performance-wise; not a problem for a comp from the last decade probably, but still. if theres interest, one could pack different performance options with the installer perhaps

I'm obviously missing something along the line, so please forgive a numpty. Should I uninstall ENB first? Because after installing ReShade 3 and D3D8to9, the game hangs at loading DX8RENDER.DLL.
hm.. I have a faint memory of a similar problem. maybe enb does interfere, try removing the old d3d8.dll and the enbconvertor, enbpalette and enbseries if you got them and then reinstall reshade and hopefully it helps :shrug if it doesnt, Ill take another look

Oh, it's different from ENB! Hadn't understood that until now.

In that case, indeed adding it as an alternative instead sounds like a good option. :onya

I'll try again tomorrow and see if I can get it working.

Thanks for turning me on to ReShade! It's had a remarkable effect on another old game I just can't seem to quit playing...

My problem was trying to use a newer version of ReShade. I tried an older version that supports DirectX 8, and it works a treat. It's refreshing to have visuals that aren't washed out. Plus, it's easier to spot ships in the distance!

Slightly off on a tangent, I apologise, but how does one take a screenshot of a Storm Engine game? The Windows print screen function seems to be broken with these games, at least in my version of Windows (8.1). What software/method do you guys use to take screenshots?

Three options:
1. Printscreen button on keyboard, then paste in (for example) Paint
This always works fine for me in Windows 7; maybe using windowed mode helps.
2. One of the function keys makes screenshots as TGA in the main game folder, but I can never remember which one it is. @Grey Roger or @Jack Rackham?
3. External program of some kind

Ah, I suppose windowed will do the trick! I've been running the game fullscreen, without thinking to put it in a window, and whenever I try to printscreen and paste to Paint, all I get is garbled graphics.

The in-game keys you're thinking of are F9 (for making the UI disappear), and F8 for taking a screenshot -- or is it the other way around? I found the answer at the beginning of this thread -- you've helpfully posted it here long ago (thanks). ^_^

As @Jack Rackham confirmed, F8 takes the screenshot. F9 does indeed make the UI disappear.

F8 tends to produce multiple copies of the same shot, at least for me. Typically I'll get two or three copies of each picture.

But I've done PrintScreen followed by pasting as well, and I always run the game full screen. It does mean you only get one screen shot, then you need to quit the game, paste the result, do whatever you want to do to it, and then start the game again. The differences are that I use Windows 7 and Photoshop - perhaps Windows 8 does something odd, or Paint isn't processing the clipboard properly.

In theory, PrintScreen should work also in full-screen mode, but I figured there might be a bigger risk of it not working.

I always run the game in windowed set to my desktop resolution, so it looks full-screen, but you can Alt+Tab freely.

If you're looking for particle effects I have made a test situation. Set the console switch to 6 and
with F12 you will be teleported to a place where you can scroll through all effects (with F12).
You'll get a number of the effect which you can check in the console for the real name.
