    New Models!

It's not completely dead, I just moved most of the showcase over to a ModelShipWorld forum: https://modelshipworld.com/topic/20250-age-of-sail-2-3d-ship-models-for-pc-wargame/

    Modding Buccaneers

What I have currently done and tested - quickly and dirty as it is: - Reduced ball damage to the hull. It's now extremely difficult to sink a ship (as it should be), but the hull can still lose integrity (armor) and start a fire. It now takes about 10 concentrated broadsides by a 74 to sink a...

    Modding Buccaneers

Since the game is written in Unity, there are some quite curious possibilities. I played a little with modifying the combat/damage system, and it works. Would there be any interest in this?

    Multiplayer?

Had to google it, but seems so. :) Note that multiplayer does require having a scenario with prepositioned ships, it does not create an engagement on the fly.

    Multiplayer?

Works over LAN, by IP. There are LAN emulators, I think, that can bridge computers over internet, but I never tried one. Multiplayer allows players on both sides, you can assign ships from one side to several players, unassigned ships go under AI. I noticed some degree of friendly fire in...

    New Models!

The game always had an option for a steamer, crude as it is. :) And a steam battery provides an interesting contrast to more traditional ships.

    Gameplay

Ah, yes, and the damage model there is totally arcade, as with all sailing games, unfortunately. I have seen a number of videos with Hold Fast: Nations at War, and it may look somewhat entertaining in concept, but it's strictly multiplayer. And ships sink there too fast as well, dammit. There...

    Gameplay

I really ought to get back to unity at some point, but there is simply not enough time.

    Gameplay

I tried. It could be good, but, unfortunately, it's not. Maybe something changed since I last looked at it, but I am not that optimistic. Camera controls and zoom levels are awful, more or less similar to vanilla AOS2. Ship control goes only by waypoints. Tacking is the same as in AOS2 (which...

    New Models!

    Very crude preliminary structure :)

    New Models!

Let's say I felt a need for a distinct adversary craft.

    New Models!

Finally finished the rebuild of the Cambridge. You know my love for Hohlenberg's designs :) Model with and without wireframe Colossus, Cambridge and Albion - almost a century of evolution

Differences between Age of Sail 2 and Age of Sail 2: Privateer's Bounty?

There was that. Add communication mishaps, visibility and identification problems, a myriad of other technical and human factors, and that's the result you'll get, more or less :) That's why I love the whole thing. And you do control all of them, you can pick any and say - go there, do that.

    Some random views on frigates.

Differences between Age of Sail 2 and Age of Sail 2: Privateer's Bounty?

The only thing that is really missing from PB is ability to sound depth (i.e. find shallows) in a map. It is possible, though, to detect where the shallows begin if you try to place a waypoint (the very little flag button on the bottom-left of the mini-map). The waypoint can't be placed on...

Differences between Age of Sail 2 and Age of Sail 2: Privateer's Bounty?

A little sense of operational perspective: My current testing scenario, depicting a harbor blockade. The three little ships around the center are bomb vessels moving to position (top image) and bombarding the fort (bottom), with other ships positioned around. And from the surface...

Differences between Age of Sail 2 and Age of Sail 2: Privateer's Bounty?

Very difficult to compare. AOS2 had this crew menu (although I have no idea how all this worked!): And this is what remained in PB: AOS2 had no AI to speak of, only preset routes. AI in PB is not the brightest, but comparing to historical precedents can even be considered realistic :)...

Differences between Age of Sail 2 and Age of Sail 2: Privateer's Bounty?

It's a rather tricky question. There are features AOS2 has and PB doesn't, and vice versa. AOS2 has more detailed crew commands such as spring cables and jury rigging. This was cut in PB, which has more simplified crew management. PB, on the other hand, has built in database and scenario...

    New Models!

Shifted the stripes and gunports on both skins (Albion/Princess Royal) slightly higher forward (turned out they were out of sync with the plans for some reason):
