Hey Mates,

http://www.flickr.com//photos/49225014@N05/sets/72157631639521420/show/

So I am actually home this week. I need some help. I have been scouring the Russian sites for ships and items for GOF: Eras mod and have finally hit paydirt. You would not believe the number of our old modder models I found in their stuff.

So this is a model of a medium Dutch Frigate of about 1640-1680. She has a beautiful hull form and lines, but the Russians had her so full of goofey hollywood looking decorations that you could hardly make out what she was. She looked like a floating Christmas tree. I have decided to keep the gaudy version as a separate ship in Eras that will belong to a Pirate NPC only or will be encountered in a high level bounty hunter encounter.

Otherwise I want to make numerous versions of this frigate with slightly different color schemes and decorations. There would have been thousand of ships like this in the 17th century. Most folks don't realize that LITERALLY 80 percent of the worlds ships from 1660-1700 were Dutch.

She would have been used for trade and war and would have been the bulk of many convoys. We have tons of examples of her type surviving in paintings and other media. The Dutch Escort ship by Yo Ho Ho and the Frederick William zu Pferde by Remus77 made available by SeaNorris and finished by Damski and Pgargon are good examples of these types of ships, but at the larger end of the spectrum. The stock Pinnace and Pgargon's Dutch Pinnace/Berlin are good examples of the smaller end of the spectrum, but we are missing that medium level ship that would have been so common.

I lack the texture and photo shop ability of Craiggo. I am learning but don't really have the time to learn well quick with all my Real Life projects. I also lack the expertise of Hylie on the rigging/sails. Yeah I know which rey is which sail and can steal them from ships to put on others, but don't know any more beyond that. I would like this ship to have a couple main textures with one Dutch green and one red - clinker built upper structures. Red on the inside of the gun port hatches and inner gunwales. I would like many differing taffrail decorations as per my Flickr set http://www.flickr.com/photos/49225014@N05/sets/72157624827690955/

http://www.flickr.com/photos/49225014@N05/sets/72157632134773565/

I would especially like the red taffrail with the white rampant horse pictured in this set. I would also like a rig much like the Dutch Escort Ship and FWzP with three sails per main and fore masts.

So here are screenshots of my work/play with the model. I have just been experimenting with different textures we already have to get a more common look. I will offer $400 USD to anyone that will finish this project to my desires. The finished work would be available to everyone at PA for COAS and POTC mods. If no one helps, I will figure it out myself, but it will probably be a year or so before I get it like I want. I will make the ship files available to anyone that wants to help. MK

Looking through your images, it does look like the model has the high camera bug because of that flagpole attached to the hull.
I could fix that and check the model over for any issues, but it looks good from what I've seen. Might be able to do something about those masts too.

Indeed Craiggo is probably your man for texture and rigging work, though I don't know how things are going for him these days.

Thanks for the helpful comments Mates! Craiggo PM'd me and said he would work on it next after the ones he's finishing up now. So I plan to give him the award I posted. I am also going to post another $1000 Award post soon for anyone willing to take on the HMS Prince 1670. Zeven Provincien will need her famous nemesis!

Hylie, I do very much LOVE your version of LaLacorne. It has the proper 17th century rig. Where can I get a copy from you. I want to replace the one I have for ERAs.

So here's some more screens of my continuing play with textures. Once Craiggo shows me a few more tricks, I think I am going to start cranking out some nice skins myself. MK

As requested here is the hull texture for the POTC La Licorne renamed so that it should work in COAS. Go into the hull1 folder and rename the existing texture and drop this one in there.

Thanks a million Hylie!!!,

I will add it tonight. I was actually able to get everything to work, but with the old gm file it forced the spritsails way out from the ship - giving new meaning to flying spritsail. It's a 17th century flying Genoa ---------

I had an unexpected break and was able to put the POTC version back in again with your texture. No dice - it's still grey.:shrugMK

Ayup! The two versions look alike but are actually very different ships under the paint thanks to Armada. The new version does not have the high camera bug as well as a better jib. That jib is actually off of Le Couronne, which is why it will not fit the old model.

Still can't get it to work. I would mention also that while I want this version for Module 2 (1648-1725), I still am using Craiggo's version in Module 3 (1750-1820). He did a great job and don't mean to say one is better than the other, yours just suits the earlier era much better.

When you get missing textures and gray ships, if you enable error logging, system.log should tell you which files it is missing. Maybe that helps?

How much of it is grey? I do not have that ship in COAS yet, so can not look at it myself and can only do a quick hex edit.

It's completely grey. Only the decks and masts have color. I need to get all my Akella/Inzane tools on this computer. Can someone PM me the password to open the tools? I forgot it.

MK

Ok big guy, settle down. All the information you need is at the top of the forum in the "downloads" section. The password is at the bottom of the COAS FTP backup, and TOOL is in the POTC FTP backup folder.

I did a quick and dirty hex edit and this stuff should work, but has not been tested in game. I don't know if the textures are in GOF2 or not, so just put them in "hull1" to be safe. The GM is for the POTC version so it can work in COAS. I hope! :unsure

I'm probably just having a senile moment Pieter. I thought for sure one of the tools had Inzane's name on it. Maybe I'm just remembering the tutorial. Its because of all the recycled textures with the name still in them.

THANK YOU HYLIE! It worked. However, it is the lighter more colorful texture. I wanted the dark one actually. I'm not complaining brother! Thanks. :onya

Just checking... :wp

Now I am confused. The ArabellaShip.tga in post #6 is the POTC texture renamed to work in COAS. The La_Licorne1.GM in the 7Zip in post#15 is the POTC one with some parts renamed to work in COAS. So those two items together should give you the look you want.
