<img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />, Jason; no worries, wikis are one of those "uh, say /what/?" things...(or at least was for me).

Heh, yeah, been there, done that... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" /> Confusing it was.

Thanks to Inez my job just got a humongouslyfingly lot easier! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" />

Three cheers for Inez!

Heh thanks. Guess after all my contribution to this will again be making tools <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />.
I'll upload it tonight (in case someone else wants to use it) after integrating your suggestions as of yesterday.

Whee! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/danse1.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":dance" border="0" alt="danse1.gif" />

And you can do more, I am sure!

Later on you can do some voices, right? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":))" border="0" alt="smile2.gif" /> Like Inez Dias' that you already mentioned, and then some others too!

By the way, no game (or program) would not be if it were no programmers! <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/par-ty.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":cheers" border="0" alt="par-ty.gif" />

You bet I do... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />

Uploaded the proggy to the ftp (DialogEditor.exe). Like the tool, it needs .Net framework to run. (Actually I should integrate it into the tool, I guess.)

Oh, well, what it is ? Small helper prog Lass asked me to make that lets you edit dialog.h and .c files simultaneously, and if you add lines/deletes lines in the .h file
it will automatically renumber the DLG_TEXT[XX] references in the .c file.

Huzzah! That's awesome!
Very sorely needed, too.
<img src="http://forum.piratesahoy.net/style_emoticons/default/wavarr.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" /> indeed!

Okay, I've come here far too late, but I can do voice acting (Young Male, British/fairly good genaral accents) and the basic word choice problems, and any other stuff you want me to do (though I may need some help) just give me an e-mail and I'll do what I can. (sgocawley@tiscali.co.uk)

I have some good news on the translation front. Finally got around to checking how parse_string works, which got me to check and find out, wow, you can have multiple arbitrary text files that you can open and do convert string calls through.

This means that we can simply take all dialog H files and convert them to languagefiles. Then rather than #include<char_dialog.h> we do int langifle = Language_OpenFile(char_dialog.txt) and then replace each DLG_TEXT[n] entry with ConvertString(DLG_TEXT_n).
Then there will be _no_ localized dialog in the program tree, all of it in the language-specific resource\ini\tests\LANGUAGE\*.* folder.

{I had previously thought that to do this we would need to have every dialog line have a unique ID for conversion, and have to search through the entire common.ini file for strings...}

<b>Nathan</b>, does this change anything of what <span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>(little)</span> I have done so far, or should I carry one with my .h as usual? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

<b>HKD, <i>and everyone else</i></b>, seeing that I have been "down and out" for a bit, maybe you can help with the editing of dialogue files, to replace all "sir" and such with the Address_Form.(whatever) and all the "he, she, it" with the pronouns deal as well? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

It is a lot for someone to do alone, heh, and it could easily be split over more people. I suppose (me and) Nathan could go over it once it is all done to proof-read and that, especially seeing that I will make certain the language is more contemporary with the true pirate era (while still keeping it readable to us, heheh). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> What do you think, Nathan?

<b>Here's an idea:</b>

How about splitting all the dialogue into groups to allow more than one to work on it? The default Build seems to carry about 500 files (counting both .c and .h) which feels a bit much for me at times, I admit. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/oops3.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":eek:ops2" border="0" alt="oops3.gif" /> Five people, split 5 ways, 100 each (or 50 dialogues). Or more?<ul><li> I go with what I have started (from A) and carry on with the dialogue through E. (approximately 160 files / 80 dialogues)</li><li> Next person picks up on F and works to all of I. (app. 88 files / 44 dialogues)</li><li> Next goes from J to O. (app. 78 / 39)</li><li> Then next for P to R. (app. 80 / 40)</li><li> Then one from S through to Z. (app. 100 / 50)</li></ul>Or any other way to divide the workload? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> When someone is done with their share we can easily coordinate any remains, no point in trying to say "where's your part?" - we are after all doing it all for <b>us</b>, right? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Me and Nathan can pass on what you need to know in order to edit this - and in some parts me only so far, as I have been adding to Address_Form in order to cover as much as possible using a single function.

I may of course have missed something that is common in use, so any suggestion to add to the list are welcome (which I will put up here, or in a new thread, once/if this takes off). <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

...any takers? <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Lass,

I was just wonder how to get in the loop and help on this. I would be happy to do it. I have no coding or technical skills and am not a great proof reader, but I can edit I think. I am happy to do whatever I can that you find helpful.

Why don't you PM me and let me know what to do.

Thanks. <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/poet.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hmm" border="0" alt="poet.gif" />

Nope, keep doing what you're doing. Later we can write a little program to make language-text files out of the H files, and change the DLG_Text[] references in the C files.

Sounds good!
Can you send me a couple files you've already done, and your changed dialog_func.c and anything else, so I can see what code changes you were doing?
Then we can write up a howto for the less code-inclined.

All right, I will get on this tomorrow. Soon midnight here and I should go to bed - I need the rest... <img src="http://www.piratesahoy.com/forum/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
