Adjusting rigging with locator "sail0" and TOOL

Hello all <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
THX to ZarethPL and Kazete and others involved. making Enterprise and BOUNTY <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bow.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bow" border="0" alt="bow.gif" />
I found out a new thing that was in COAS sloop rigging, that is using "sail0".
With fore sails I think it is very usefull, sail0 sailt x= 0 or - z= > 0. Look Enterprise or Bounty mast1 for
examples, What it does is that now fore sails work with "wind direction" more or less like with real ship, if you have done any sailing you know what I mean. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> (With "sail0" adjust "curvature" and position of fore sails to leeward (downwind) side of ship).
For "saild" that is square sails you can adjust "curvature", Bounty b2 sail
cut fore sails so I made sail0 saild x=0 y="about midpoint of sail" = 4,5 z= 0,5, it was this "z" value that made
for less "curvature". <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />
For boom sail, "sailf" it helps with "inside out look" sadly not as usefull as with fore sails <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
I changed Bonuty´s boom sail to "Bounty1_rey_d4.gm" so that it will not get rolled up with "battle sails command",
I think that with real ship you loose steering to windward if you do, at least it did so with my sailboat. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
With TOOL I changed mast4, ray_d4(boom sail) xx = 1 to xx = -1 With this "-1" change, boom sail works realistic
with wind direction. It goes to leeward (downwind) side of ship.
EDITED: added (With "sail0" adjust "curvature" and position of fore sails to leeward (downwind) side of ship).

Petros noticed in PotC that the sails respond incorrectly to the wind and changing that sail0 value fixed that.
However, that also turned the rey itself inside-out, which doesn't look so good either.
After a lot of trouble, Thomas the Terror and me found that by exporting the rey to VRML, then re-importing, it'll be outside-out again.
Still, the smoothing groups are lost in that process, making the rey look rather squary. Do you have any solution for those issues? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

Hello <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
About "Petros noticed in PotC that the sails respond incorrectly to the wind and changing that sail0 value fixed that.
However, that also turned the rey itself inside-out, which doesn't look so good either."
------------------------------------------------- <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> --------------------------------------
"sail0" locator is for "sail" adjustement not for "ray". with sail0 you can only adjust sail "curvature" and
leeward --- windward position a bit, nothing else, no problems with COAS, about Potc I do not know.
There is no XX adjustement here if you adjust anything else but X, y, and z you may have 3d view problems <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
--------------------------------------------------- <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> -------------------------
About Boomsail "geometry locator", here indeed you can have all kind of 3D view problems,
I can do only one adjustement here that have no 3D view problems, "XX = -1", to adjust boomsail to go leeward (downwind) side of ship.
I have done this adjustement many times with Potc and aop and now with COAS and no 3D view problems.<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yes" border="0" alt="yes.gif" />
EXAMPLE ,Bounty1_mast4 -- rey_d4 -- geometry -- XX = -1
I think that if you download from FTP Captain Hawk folder Bounty_Coas and change All Bounty1 gm to Bounty you can but bounty (GM) folder in your potc alfa9 game and see how it works. I have not tested "sail0" in potc.
so I do not know how it will work there <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
P.S all my potc ship that have boom sail should have "-1" fix for example Packet Brig: Packetbr_mast3
--- rey_d3 -- geometry -- XX = -1. I suppose that Petros did something else like "XX=0" or something <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
I remember reading about it was it about "reverse light problem" also.

Can you please have a look at Petros' <a href="http://forum.piratesahoy.net//index.php?s=&showtopic=12583&view=findpost&p=303071" target="_blank">Re-worked Privateer thread</a> again?
I don't really like seeing the sails on the wrong side of the ships; doesn't make much sense.
However, if you try to fix it, the reys turn inside-out! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

Hello <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
I did read "Re-worked Privateer thread" played COAS with Bounty and indeed I now see the problem. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":?" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />
you need to be close to ship to see it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
Some kind of engine render problem or something. But did you not have a fix for it ,vrlm import export to TOOL.
I will try this. maybe not perfect fix, you really have to be close to see any problems I think. Maybe if you are
on board the ship, If I manage to do this vrlm import export fix, will update Enteprise and Bounty and Packet brig
on FTP. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Make sure you've got the "Ship/Item/Location" box checked, as well as the "swap X>Y" one, I think.
This enables you to get the model looking right-side out again. However, you lose the smoothing groups.
UNLESS you have a 3D modeling too that can re-smooth the exported VRML file before importing it again.
I think...

Hello <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
First I want to say that this "XX-1" problem has nothing to do with "sail0" locator. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
I played COAS with my imported Packet Brig and it had no problems.
and it has this "XX-1 fix". <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
Also when I was 3D on Bounty I did not see this problem <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
so I think this problem is only when you look at your ship´s rigging-spars up close.
I think that some rigging-spars have been made somehow differently than others and have this problem.
as this problem is not only with boom sail with "XX-1" fix. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />
Also I do not think that this is BIG problem, but if one can fix it with vrlm import export trick with TOOL why not <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
But Pieter asked if I have some other fix to this problem <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
I think that Petros, Pieter, Thomas, vrlm import export trick with TOOL is the only one there is now. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" />

Sorry about the sail0 confusion; indeed it has nothing to do with that. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
Once you've noticed the issue, it's hard not to notice it. Quite annoying, truth be told.

Would there be any chance of somebody being willing to try and fix the rigging on the ships?
At least the XX = -1 thing; and possibly also some other improvements and rope additions.
I know people have been complaining about a lack of ropes and also there's frequently rope errors in the log files.

Hopefully we can get all the reys inside-out issues sorted with the import/export trick too.
Though ideally we'd be able to re-smooth the files inbetween using 3DS MAX or something.

Which reminds me... for PotC we will also need some additional rigging work done for the "Different Flags" mod.
This mod enables different flags and pennants and make them nation-, type- and period-dependent. So it's pretty cool.
But some fairly simple locator-work needs to be done for that.

Hello <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I have now fixed Bounty and Enterprise Boom sail " inside/out" with Import/export trick and uploaded
to FTP to Captain Hawk folder.
Sure one can work with 3D max with rigging-spars, and make them better but for me Import/export trick
is good enough . So what did I do?
------------------------------------ <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> --------------------------------------------
(1) open "Bounty1_rey_d4.gm" with TOOL.
(2) open locators/Write to file. writes to doc1 file.
(3) marked WRLM Reverse normals box.
(4) marked Export Swap Y<->Z.
(5) Save WRML.
(6) closed TOOL and opened it again.
(7) marked Import Ship/Item/location.
(8)Open WRLM for collision information used "Bounty1_rey_d4.gm".
(9) Locators /Read from file. reads locators from Doc1 file.
(10)open View/locators press ApplyChanges.
(11) save Gm.
And that was all as I remember it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/buds.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":drunk" border="0" alt="buds.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="xD:" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
Also see that new rey.gm file is same size as original. also remember to rename original like this"xBounty1_rey_d4.gm".

Did you know that step (4) is actually impossible on my computer because that option goes invisible? How weird is THAT??? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/piratesing.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shock" border="0" alt="piratesing.gif" />
Does your new rey appear smoothed or still "blocky"?

To me they looked like other riggin_spars, but then I try not to look too close.
About "step (4) is actually impossible" try this
after step (2) do step (6), then step (4), then (1),(3),(5). Hope this helps. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I CAN'T do step (4); the button is not there for me. It's some sort of computer-relelated problem. That's why I needed Thomas to help me with it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mybad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":facepalm" border="0" alt="mybad.gif" />
