Age of Pirates: caribbean tales newbie questions

Just got this game from a friend yesterday and after playing it for a few hours I still cant figure out how to aim accurately at enemy ships. In first person mode, even if i put the yellow crosshair (circle) on the enemy ship and fire the shots just land in the water and in the third person mode I get lucky in maybe one hit in every twenty shots. How to aim correctly ppl?

Secondly using the sail to option, I can just teleport next to my enemy? Wats the use of implementing wind direction and other tactics then? I can kill a ship just by using my magic 'sail to' button and hitting F3 to board. I understand it saves a lot of time - they should have implemented this to be available out of combat imo. lawl... wierd shit...

Also even though I have set my tactics to 8, I still cant capture a ship after boarding it. Only the Sink option is available. I have only one officer tho... and hes assigned to a post. Do I need an officer not doing anything to capture a ship?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not truly familiar with AoP, only with its predecessor, PotC.
What I can tell you is that at least with our Build mod, you can't use Sail-To when you're near an enemy ship that can outrun you.
Provided that you use the Realistic Sailing mode, that is.
Still, Sail-To indeed is a cheat of sorts and it's one of those things for which it's up to the user to not use it in unrealistic situations. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Hi Kangraxx,

sail to actually works against you in practice... You are almost always teleported to a very unfavourable tactical position and will take a few close range broadsides. Serves you right, cheat...

You need an unassigned officer to capture a ship. However, it is possible to dismiss an officer while in the enemy captains cabin.

If you are in an unfavourable position, just do a sail-to again and you'd be teleported to a different position, right? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/whippa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":whipa" border="0" alt="whippa.gif" />

Thx for the reply...

I spent the more than an hour today trying to capture ships... it gets hard when in every engagement u have 2-4 opponents and I am alone... sux

Though I was just thinking, that when I can just teleport and then instantly hit F3 board the ships without firing a single cannon... wats the point of all the maneuvering and gunfire lawl
Kinda takes away the entire fun... hehehe

Also regarding my aiming question earlier, is there any better way to aim accurately or are we simply stuck with hitting space when the enemy ships are around our flanks?

Hi,

equally bad position, if not worse. An anti-cheater device, to be sure.

Have a high accuracy skill, or have an officer with high skill assigned as gunner. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Yes, you need a free officer. You also need enough crew to provide at least minimum skeleton crew for both the prize and your own ship. Finally, if you're escorting a ship for a mission, that counts against your allowance even though you can get escort missions which add more ships to your fleet than you should be able to command. If you have Tactics 2, you're only normally allowed to command one ship, but you can still take an escort mission which gives you a second ship; but if you have Tactics 4 and you take an escort mission, you can not then capture an enemy ship because you already have two ships. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

As for using "Sail To" to get next to an enemy, nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to use it - if you'd prefer to play fair and sail up to the enemy properly, do so! And if you choose a high enough difficulty level, "Sail To" is not an option anyway.
