what game is better and has more features . what about their big mods (Gentlemen Of Fortune for AOP 2 and new horizon for Pirates of the Caribbean) which is better

You can have a look at these threads where we had the same question:

http://forum.piratesahoy.net/index.php/topic/18379-preference-for-game

It's basically a matter of preference. Unmodded, CoAS is better for sure. With mods, PotC can easily give it a run for its money.
There's a lot of cool stuff in PotC: New Horizons that isn't in CoAS and the opposite is true for CoAS as well.

thanks i will start with pirates of the caribean...

Yeah I did too.. and you should definitely play vanilla PoTC before New Horizons because the mod just adds in a lot of stuff you won't be familiar with or understand the need for unless you play the original for a little while..

I suggest learning how to fight on land and sea, trade and smuggle successfully before modding :)

I played about 3-4 main story quests before I eventually tried New Horizons and I am totally glad I did because all the new stuff fired at you right in the learning stages will probably overwhelm and frustrate you a bit.. like being pick-pocketed every time you walk through town and not knowing about it until you get to the store and you have no money LOL.

If you have any questions I am happy to answer and I know Pieter and the others are too because they've helped me a LOT! (Thanks again guys..)

But try reading this strategy guide I found on gamefaqs https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85586392/PiratesAhoy/PoTC/Guides/POTC Strategy guide XBOX.txt

Also here is the Manual - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85586392/PiratesAhoy/PoTC/Guides/POTC_manual_uk.pdf
and the stock/vanilla map - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/85586392/PiratesAhoy/PoTC/Maps/pirates_map.jpg

The map is essential for playing the normal game as there is no in-game map sadly.
It is best to print them out if you can because for some reason you can't alt+tab out of the game in Windows 7 >.< Or atleast I can't without the screen going black when I alt+tab back in.

When you are being pick-pocketed, there is a sound effect notifying you that it happened. You can then try to get your money back from the guy, which may or may not work.

For Alt+Tabbing, open engine.ini in your main game folder, set full_screen = 0 and set screen_x and screen_y to your desktop resolution.
I use that all the time and can Alt+Tab at leisure, which is absolutely brilliant. :cheeky

Will try that cheers dude! Yeah I figured the pick pocket jingle out after an hour or so hehe.. but as I mentioned in my other post today, when I ask for the money back I only receive 1 gold!

Cheers!

Which one (New Horizons or Gentlemen of Fortune) is the better "sailing simulator"? I don't care so much about the fighting and on shore gameplay.

Sailing simulator as in "sailing only" and no sea battles? PotC is fairly realistic in that respect with counter-rudder required to keep course, etc.
And of course that is the only modpack with the DirectSail mod allowing you to sail from island to island without using the "map mode".

Of course neither game is very realistic on the different rigging settings, because they both have only "no sails", "battle sails" or "full sails".

I do want sea battles, but as realistic as possible in respect of sailing.

OK DirectSail is what I want in any case. It's New Horizons then. Thanks for your help.

The sea battles in PotC are pretty much as realistic as we managed to make them, so you should be able to have some good fun with that. :onya

We're planning on making the HoO project much more realistic in terms of sailing. Nice to see a fellow square-rig sailor.

Direct Sail is a feature in both GOF 1.2 and GOF 2.0. It also works in GOF Era's (module 2 to be released in mid March). I will say that the direct sail isn't fluid though. There are several places along the way where you will suddenly teleport to the next map grid while direct sailing. You do realize that it can take hours of real life to sail across the Caribbean in Direct Sail.

I only use it when I am in a quest and on a deadline, because I can get to my destination on time by sailing legs of the journey in Direct sail rather than all in strategic toy boat map-mode.

In POTC the Open Sea mod lets one sail from Havana to St. John's seamlessly with no jump between maps. The old direct sail mode had those jumps between maps too. Now I'm wondering what was changed.

You DID get DirectSail to work in CoAS? Didn't know that; CONGRATULATIONS!
Last thing I knew was that Luke was having a problem getting the towns to show up? Or something?

anybody got age of pirates 2 they can copy for me or download for me as i cant find it anywhere to buy ,i have looked and looked

When I found out about the game..I was very addicted. 'Till I found this site when I tried searching for fixes about all the weird bugs with the stock potc. And I suggest not to play too much with the stock potc then suddenly jump to the latest mod version. 'Cause in my experience, I got totally shocked when I installed New Horizons with all them new stuffs, its like another game:p. I got attached to the stock version so it got a little hard for me to let go with it, before.
And I'm glad I did! heheheh What I'm playing today now is a lot more awesome! Yeah! :cheers:type1:pflag
