does anyone still play Privateer's Bounty? I just pulled it off the shelf again and was reminded how fun a fighting sail "simulation" it is. It feels so realistic and really feels like you are really the commander of the ship (or rather the men on the ship), but of course, it is quite outdated and lacks features (though the campaign is pretty cool).

I remember seeing somewhere that they were working on something like a sequal to this game. It was supposed to be more inspired by Master and Commander and such. Pirates Ahoy did have some news about it a long time ago and some screenshots. Does anyone know what became of this? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":shrug" border="0" alt="dunno.gif" />

Hi LP,

I still play Age of Sail, Privateer's Bounty every now and then. And for the same reason you do, the ship to ship combat. I especially like the smaller battles with 4 or less ship total. The simulation of the <i>Turtle</i> is also cool. I remember, the original game was largely regarded as a bug infested waste of money. Perhaps that is why they never released a sequel, just the expansion.

I could never get this game to play due to all the bugs so I junked it. Never knew there was an expansion pack.

Well, if I remember correctly, Age of Sail II was the original game, then came Age of Sail II- Privateer's Bounty. And I seems to me you need the first one to be able to play the second. At least that's what it said when I tried to load my copy of AoS- PB onto my new computer.

EDIT: Cool new animations Meigger.

I bought only Privateers Bounty after reading about the bugs in the original Age of Sail II. It worked fine by itself for my. The only problem I had was that sometimes the missions didn't finish once I completed the objectives (I got another patch for it so it might be solved.

Are there any games that deliver a similar brand of gameplay as Age of Sail but more up to date and with more gameplay features? Or just anymore games that focus on combat and crew management?

I still play Privateer's Bounty. works great when flying from place to place on biz trips. Its classic and still one of my most favorite games. almost time for AOS 3 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

help installing 1.56 patch for Age of Sails 2 Privateers Bounty

I downloaded the game and activated it. The Briefing loading screen didnt work at first, but I fixed it by changing privateer.exe compatibility to Windows 98 (I am running Win 7).

I want to fix the reported bugs and update from the retail 1.0 ver but when trying to install the 1.56 patch the app refuses to recognize the age of sail II file (by installation default it is located in a Global Star file. The error message is "AOS2 not found." The installed game file is called Age of Sail II, not Age of Sail 2. Can anyone help me please?

I would bet your problem is central to the OS. Windows 7 doesn't like older games. I find myself in a similar situation everytime I want to play old Windows 95 or 98 games. I love the old Lucas Arts Star Wars games like X-Wing vs Tie Fighter, and I still play Buccaneer.

I always use an emulator. There are lots of free Windows 95/98/XP emulators on line. Just look around and find one. I particularly like CNET and Freedownloads. I'm sure it will run with an emulator under it.
