I was thinking that perhaps Disney might have the name "Pirates of the Caribbean" copyrighted? or trademarked.

And we can use the .com domain for it also <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Also should this be made to the wider public? (News page) Or keep it within the PA! community?
 
maybe. but the main reason for the choosing of a new name was because there was too much confusion, i think. each build having it's own name would make it easier for new members to know which one to get.
 
Remember, the new name contest is for the western version of "City of Lost Ships", not our Build. It HAS a name! (once it goes beta or..dare not even say it..public)
 
Corsairs isn't a bad name; could be used. Buccaneer might be another, though there already <i>was</i> a (BAD!) pirate game called Buccaneer. I wonder if "City of Abandoned Ships" isn't a bit of a weird subtitle. That suggests to me that it might be a liniar game with a quest having to do with this City of Abandoned Ships. It could even give the impression of wanting to cash in on Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, which might not be a good move.

On the other hand, wouldn't it be absolutely awesome to have a GOOD open-ended pirate game licensed with Disney called Pirates of the Caribbean 2? Such a game might be based on City of Abandoned Ships and include some of our film-specific and other Build mod stuff. In theory it could work brilliantly; what I heard from CoAS suggests that it might very well take place in the same universe as PotC. However, getting Disney, Akella and seaward.ru to agree to that would be a bit unlikely. Same goes for getting our full community to agree with our work being used for profit.

seaward.ru specifically requested us to come up with a better name for their game for release on the Western market. So far the following has been proposed:
- Pirates of the Caribbean: Blood and Gold
- Buccaneers of the Archipelago
- Cannons and Cutlasses
- Captains and Cutthroats
- New Horizons: City of Lost Ships
- Pirates and Privateers
- A Pirate's Tale
- Dawn of a (the) Golden Age
- Pirates Ahoy!
- Corsairs: Sail Ho!
- Corsairs: Age of Cannons
- Pirates: Freedom and Glory
- Pirates: Gold and Fortune
- Buccaneers

Any thoughts? Which ones are good? Which ones aren't? We need to come up with some seriously good names.

I really dislike "Name: Subname" titles, though, with the exception of expansions, where I feel it fits. I can't say why, they just irritate me.

Unfortunately, I don't know enough about what makes this latest Akella entry different from it's predecessors, despite trying to keep up on it. So it's hard to pick anything less Pirate-generic than those already suggested. "City of Abandoned Ships" at least appears less generic to my eyes. What will sell best though? Well if my personal tastes track record vs. focus groups and sales numbers is any indication, do the opposite of whatever I suggest. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I've got something to do with worldwide release of the subject.
Thanks to all of you for submitting your ideas, we will have to pick one up in a few months.
Till that time would you be so kind to keep on coming with something.
So am I right that not to many people likes Corsairs: City of Abandoned Ships?
 
What about "Sea Wolves: Clever Subtitle Here"? Sort of an evolution of the Sea Dogs title, which is what what I tend to think of these games as anyways, regardless of actual title. And other dog references just don't seem quite right (Sea Hounds, Sea Mastiffs, Sea Beagles...)

Any "Pirates of the This" or "Pirates of the That" would best be avoided - too over used.
