    A. <i>Age of Pirates is an RPG from the creators of Sea Dogs and Pirates of the Caribbean, the most acclaimed pirate simulations throughout the world. Based on the next generation sea engine STORM, The Age of Pirates represents utmost graphical experience.

The world of The Age of Pirates is 16 islands and the endless sea waters of the living Caribbean. You can dare assume the role of any of the two main characters, each with his own spectacular story. Over 10 types of ships will be at your disposal! Hire officers to improve your sailing abilities, and fighters - to help you in boarding and melee encounters. Fight foreign ships, capture prizes to sail them and prisoners to trade them at slave markets. Attack forts to conquer colonies, and then develop the colonies to produce more goods attracting more colonists.

Advanced AI of the foreign captains allows them to sail, trade, capture and develop colonies all on their own - so think first before underestimating your rivals in the race for domination! No quarter is spared! The Age of Pirates is the freedom of sailing, trading, fighting and development - and the unlimited exploration of the real Caribbean.</i>

    A. <i> Akella have made no promises but have said it will be likely</i>

<!--coloro:eek:range--><span style="color:eek:range"><!--/coloro--><b>It's not POTC</b><!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> (since alot of people are comparing it to a updated POTC)

    <b>Q. What's changed?</b>
    A. <i>There have been a number of changes, mainly dealing with making AOP more of a realistic setting. That does not mean the wind, turning will be like real, it dies mean there will be ships and items that actually exsited. There have been large graphical changes with AOP using the Storm 2.5 engine along with Renderware effects making it look vastly different. Recent screenshots of AOP explain this much better. Go <!--coloro:blue--><span style="color:blue"><!--/coloro--><b><a href="http://www.piratesahoy.net/content/view/528/2/" target="_blank">HERE</a> </b><!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->to see for yourself.
Another point is that AOP is to be a free spirited game, while there is a main plot you can follow it, or not if you like. POTC would end the game after completing the main quest, this is not an issue with AOP.</i>

<b>Q. Whats being included into AOP that was not in POTC</b>
    A. <i>While not alot is know on this matter, we do know slavery is going to be included.</i>
    <b>
    Q. Whats being left out.</b>
    A. <i>Skeletons and other "cult" refernces, AOP is set in a real world with real occurences</i>

    man, this needs an update....

I think the proper title for this topic would be - AoP FAQ (Akella PR-department's edition).
That way you can know straight away that many answers are not true.

    BIG QUESTION about gameplay:

How is the sailing-gameplay? Do you sail via small map(like in "pirates") - or do you always sail in 3D-mode as it is seen on every screen-shot ???

    edit: Question nr. II:

How is the investigation-system? Do you see every ship on small map? Or is it like in old "pirates"?

You CAN sail in 3D mode all the way to whatever destination or via map. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

WRONG, you sail using the small map just like in Pirates!, you only enter 3d view during a battle, island landing, and fort bombardment. This game is exactly like PotC, with most of the same features. But don't worry, they made a mod where you can sail using ONLY 3d view, and I'm sure they'll do the same with Age of Pirates. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/me.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":onya" border="0" alt="me.gif" />

Oh man, thanks for correcting me there Black Bart; don't want to give bad info out. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Still, that is awesome of them being able to do that mod, very ingenious.

    Nice find Pieter! :onya

I always did like the music for Akellas pirate games, it's unfortunate the gameplay in AOP didn't quite live up to the quality of the music. I really did enjoy playing some of the early parts of the game, there was some serious potential there, but the bad story lines and Starforce pretty much put an end to that.
