I know we have had some conversation about the potions not being available in stores because they are magic? and therefore not for purchase. If however you relabeled them as some type of medicine like healing elixir, healing drops and combination fluid your could actually have them available for purchase. I think this is probably realistic since going back to the middle ages there were all kinds of cures available.

Also shouldn't we be able to buy bottles of rum and wine in the stores?

I can't remember exactly what we did with potion availability.
Did we prevent potions from being sold at all? I'd have to check initItems.c later....

Same thing with rum/wine.
If I recall, those were meant to be sold only at the Nevis brothel.
But we could indeed reconsider that.
Though I'd like them to have some sort of special purpose then too.

Realistically, I'd say wine and rum, at least, ought to be available for sale. Bandages ought to be available for sale because, if you meet a street walker who tries to sell you one for 120 gold, one of your replies is "120 gold, eh? I think I've seen 'em cheaper at the store in town. And THAT is where I'll get them from if I need them!" That only makes sense if you can, in fact, get them at the store for less than 120. :D

Personally I'm not that bothered because I never pay for them anyway. If you raid a dungeon or plunder a ship's chests during boarding, bandages are possibly the most common item you'll find, which means I never buy them. Wine and rum, as well as various healing potions, are acquired the same way. :rpirate

Personally I prefer not doing that until those items actually have something special, rather than being regular "health potions" because that doesn't make so much sense to me.
Even so, should those not be sold at the taverns instead?

We're talking about POTIONS, I imagine? Bandages are already available for sale.

If I recall, I deliberately ensured that potions indeed cost less than 120 gold. But probably afterwards we decided to not have them sold from regular item traders.
Probably at the time I figured that then those random guys selling potions would become a bit more sensible. But then they DO need their dialog changed.

Perhaps, if taverns are to be given an interface for selling items. I'd have thought it simpler just to make them available for sale via the normal sellers. ;)

Bandages are just a potion renamed to make them more realistic, so I thought they were included. If they're already for sale (preferably for less than 120), fine - I wouldn't know. :rpirate

Potions could indeed be available only from more specialised sources. The random walkers specifically mention bandages, so they don't need their dialog changed unless they are also to sell potions.

The Martinique tavern mentions buying wine in the dialog. You have to pay for it, so it would be nice if you'd actually GET it.
Likewise, regular taverns could handle it through dialog. That should be simple enough. For after Beta 4, of course.

It is possible for sure. But if they're almost-pointless items (as they are now), I prefer not making them more visible.
And once they DO have some sort of special function, it would be nice to have them also available from special spots.
Right?

Bandages are already sold. Potions are not, for realism's sake. Those can only be found at random if you're lucky.
They're generally better than bandages, but rare on purpose.

You're right; I forgot I changed them to provide bandages instead, again for realism's sake.
Would we want potions to be regularly available?

This is handled now so i'm going to close this

The only thing that was changed was that you can now buy Rum and Wine in Cartagena.
Everything else hasn't been changed in years.

Did I misread the topic?
This was mostly about providing a way to buy rum and wine right?

Also Potions. But those are actually not easily available on purpose, because they're "magic".
So maybe this is indeed OK then.

we can tackle that once we are going to look into different trader types etc.
