MK's Top ten (+) worst COAS CM ships picks
Shark
Linearship

Personally I'm into line ships. What's wrong with linearship and shark? :shrug I was just wondering cause i have a shark and it works fine :D

Guess I hate all the smaller ships :D They're good loot but i'd never use a sloop or schooner etc. st least now that I have a bigger ship.

I'll put a full list of my top 20 favourite and worst ships in COAS later MK, promise. :onya

@ Joonas612
I to like the Shark, its my favourite lineship but i have to say you miss out on a lot of fun with those small ships. I like entering battles where a friendly nation is under attack by a enemy nation or pirates, then i have fun while its hard its fun because you can out moneuver all of them and if needs be turn and sail away fast. But in the mean time you can get up close ish to them and fire a few rounds off and sail away to a safe point and repeat. When enough damage has been done to there crew you can board and capture the ship.

Its when that happens that all the other enemy ships seem to go WTF kill him and all turn to chase you down and having so few crew and most likely a calibure of cannon/culverine that takes forever to reload all you can do is try to either get up close to the friendly ships or run away. I tend to use the second option and run away and hope that the guns on the stern are enough to damage there sails so that the friendly ships can keep up with them more easily and board them while there so busy with this kill me phase of the battle.

I don't mind the Bermuda Sloop, the Cutter is ok. It would be nice to have more up to date versions of these ships because they are both old now. Maybe one day that wish will come true.

@ Luke159
True :D Smaller ships vere loads of fun early in the game for me. Maybe I should try them again.

I searched around ships init and foun linearship and some lineships but what is "Ship of the line"? It's class 1?

Its the stock MOW from AOP1 i think (never played that game so its a guess) but for COAS she is the Heavy MOW.

I still love to sail around in small ships. In fact all the large ships i capture i give to companions who i only have as hero's you hire from the taverns. I will sail at most a Frigate but i like to sail the smaller ships a lot so i will often have several small ships stored with port controller's around the carabbean.

Joonas,

I like the big ships too. Just my opinion, but I just think the Shark and Linearship are really ugly from an aesthetic point of view. Some people like ugly. We also have plenty of big ships.

I like you, tend to stay with the big ships later in the game. Although the last game I played before I started this new one I turned my big ones in and used a Sophie and later Greyhound only. Millions in gold, hero status, and fighters that were almost invincible: makes for great fun meandering about the Carribean doing quests, picking off prizes, and trying to stay alive when you get into trouble with the bigger ships. Plus the Sophie and Greyhound are so darn pretty just watching them sail. Try it. It's fun. I did this a long time ago before the mods with the Quest Corvette too.

I like the small ships too. The only reason Bermuda Sloop is on my bad list is because it's an ugly model. 12 gun cutter is on it because the foresails(jibs) float in the air and aren't joined with the mast. We have enough nice little ships that no one would miss those.

Well I havent got 20 most favourite ships, but I can tell you my 6 most favourite ships:

Frigate
Corvette
Caravel
Galleon
Brig
Lugger.

As you see, I like only small ships, because they are usually faster then big ships. You can manevrou from "biggies" fires and attack 'em with medium or little fire very fast.I only use big ships usually when I attacking forts such as Port Royal, because they very hard to take. And this is mine most wrost ships in game:
Ship of the Line
Man 'o' War
War Galleon
Bounty
Sloop
Tartane.

Because they are too big or too small and they don't got big cargo hold.

I think the Bounty is a beautiful and very characterful little ship and fits in really well as a Caribbean trader/merchant vessel.

I heartily agree. :onya

I have updated my list (first post) adding several ships to both lists as I have been playin the heck out of the game this week.

Heavy Ship of the Line has got to go. I hate this ship almost as much as the Nightmare. It's looks like it's made out of LEGOs and not historical at all. :facepalm

MK

Black Pearl
Corvette
Constitution
Arabella
Bellona
Lineship (60 guns)
Flying Dutchman (quest ship)

Pinnace of war
War Pinnace
Dutch two-decker
Lydia
Endeavour
Salamander
Nightmare
Heavy ship of the line
Heavy warship
Intrepide
Light Man o war

I agree with most of you. Is there a possibility to remove the low end of the list from the next cm? BTW The soleil royal (2nd version) which I see in the French quest line is just a recolored version of the stock man of war.....How can I turn it back to the realistic model of Soleil?

Also, the ships Le Superbe, La Couronne and Apostel Felipe that you mention, I have never seen them and can't find them in the resource/models ;_;

Part of the reason I posted this thread was to get an idea from our interested player population of what we want to keep and what to get rid of. We've been talking about getting rid of bad ships for a long time. No ones opinions are the same. I don't care for the Shark, but there's way worse ships and after reading your opinions I took a closer look at her and can see some good points. However when we get concenses on some, then those are obvious cuts. I think most agree already from the lists here so far that at least the 12 gun cutter, Nightmare, Mermaid Grief, War Pinnace, Lydia, and Edinburgh trader need to go. When we gather a larger sample of opinions, I will post a survey.

Indeed you are correct on the new ones not being in the folders. Until CMV3.2 is released you must manually install them from the rar files that pgargon posted in the modellers forum. This means cutting and pasting into the ships init file and ships h file and putting the textures in the correct places. There's lots of porting discussions that talk about what has to be done if you want to try it yourself.

A few of us including myself, Craiggo, and Luke are testing right now. I think Luke has gone underground for awhile cause he expressed that he was sick of just changing code and testing all the time and really wanted a chance to actually play the game for a while without being bothered.

I thought I would have a go at this subject,

Since there's no portuguese ships or faction in the game I guess I'm not alined with any favorite subject, so out of looks and charm I would go with:

Dutch Line Ship (Yo Ho Ho) - I think this one is the Dutch escort ship??
Mordaunt and variations
Greyhound (pgargon) - only problem dosen't have frontal cannons
Bellona (pgargon) - varryyy classy ship, a fine looking lady
Interceptor (Kazeite) - wonderful and sharp for piracy
Corvette (AOP stock) - looks very ugly but is one of the best and most balanced stock ships in the unmoded game
La Licorne (Mordaunt skin) - one of mine all time favorites in the moded game
Black Pearl - what can one say, if you're dering and intrepide and a free pirate, shes the best of the best with a charming feel to her
Xebec - the two heavy xebecs are very nice, gracefull and with good handling, wonderfull as hunters

worst ships

Nightmare
Mermaid Grief
Queen Anne's Revenge
Chase Frigate
Pinnace of War
War Pinnace
Zeven Provincien - looks really strange not at all as the historical original
Crimson Blood
MOW - yes, its ugly
Dutch Two-decker - also strange looking
Fleut of war

Special note - Flying Dutchman

I think I'm correct in thinking that they are two ships, the quest ship and normal Flying Dutchman.
My thing with this ship is its looks, if it could have a Black Pearl (black paint job) look it would be perfect, I know it as its charm as a ghost ship but a somewhat functional look like the one on the Pearl would be more inspiring.

As for classes and size it depends, there's circunstances for the big heavies and other's for light and sharp performers, also if in the game of hit and run piracy more balance low end of the class system is always better, like a class 5 Black Pearl or at the most a light frigate.

We don't really performe squadron or fleet actions, well we can but the commands for that in the game are dificult to handle, so heavy ships are okay but not really the subject of our game play, more like adversaries one finds at sea.

REAL historic Ships

I would be very happy sailing a :keith

Zeven Provincien 1665
Hollandia
Aemelia
Eendracht
Sovereign of the Seas
Henry Grace a Dieu

Well, I don't know enough of them to make full 20 lists, but i can make a few comments. I'm around level 15 on my first play through with the mods pack.

Morduant- I really like this ship, captured one the other day and decided to replace my Blue Bird with it. Definately better than a normal corvette IMO. 17 speed, 50 maneuverability, ~4.0 point of sail, ~850 crew, and 46 guns makes for a solid ship. The only drawback from a normal corvette is it's larger profile from having an additional deck. Worth the trade-off. Probably keep this until I get the Dog of War.

Shnyava (and similar models) - Personally I think the small ships with 3 sail masts look kinda dumb. The masts are longer than the ship is, would make for an unstable, top-heavy design I think.

Black Pearl - It's a relatively slow, fairly weak galleon. What more to say?

Is there a list of all the ships that are to come in the next COAS CM patch?

I mean there are the two new Surprises' nearing completion, I believe there some changes to HMS Victory as well as a French Third Rate and a number of other Frigates under construction along with fixes to existing ships like HMS Sophie. Was just wondering if ships and changes such as these will for sure be in the next patch?
